It’s usually listed under Help – About, but I don’t have LO installed to check.

A Story About My Uncle is the Humble Bundle current freebie. Looks a bit like a futuristic / sci-fi Spiderman, and it’s on Linux and Mac OS too 🙂

Not a fix, but a possible workaround while you fix the issue – Can you install Google Drive? Apparently it’s got version history for any document uploaded, for 30 days. If you add his book save folder to Drive, it should upload automatically. Add Libre Office autosave set for every ten minutes or so, and he shouldn’t lose too much work if he gets caught out.

I switched to using PhotoSync. Does the same job, but can upload to the NAS (and more) a but also supports renaming the photos and placing in to YY/MM folders in the desitnation.

              That’s a nice find, thanks 🙂

Could be really handy with the Flashair support too. I don’t use my DSLR much because I always forget to transfer the photos, so I’ll definitely be trying this out 🙂

I’ll have to check tomorrow  but I’m pretty sure that they’re on 1809.

I think Windows just doesn’t like me 😀

Thanks Dave, but don’t worry. I’m not going to risk rolling it back, especially if Ubuntu can access the drive. I’ve got it running in VirtualBox, so I can get the files off if I need to. It doesn’t look like Buffalo are going to release an update to help out either, so I’ll just retire the boxes.

The withdrawal of the SMB1 function has been heralded for so long even the wide boys thought it should just go, I disabled it months ago, could even be more than a year ago.

That’s one of the reasons it threw me. I remember the fuss, and the updates that supposedly turned it all off, and my NAS worked afterwards. Like most people, I had no clue what the Buffalo box was running, just that it was up to date according to the web interface. A few weeks ago I tried to double check a backup before I went away, and I couldn’t access it through Windows.

God knows why, but Windows let me access it up until recently.

It sounds like you’re doing out my house ?

We found out when we moved in that because the street is split level with a basement at the back, that some people had dug the basement out to the front wall, giving them an extra room. Sounded like a good idea so I made a start. Knocked a doorway through at the bottom of the stairs and went in, only to find that the builders had dumped the rubble into the front half of the room, and someone had done the same when they refurbished the bathroom. I could see a pipe coming through the dividing wall and going into the rubble, so took my time clearing around it until I found out it went nowhere. Also found out that there’s what looks like a stream under the house…

You can still upload 1,000 photos on the free account, so I’m tempted to keep using it, but in the way they describe in the post, and join in the community. I’ve only used camera based photography forums in the past, so it might be a nice change 🙂

You might find that it’s because of SMB1 being removed from Windows 10. I’ve got a Buffalo LinkStation that won’t connect to Windows anymore because of it. Ubuntu 18.04 connects to it with no problem though.

I can understand why MS removed it, but the sudden lack of access to my backup device with no explanation really wasn’t helpful.

That’s brilliant, thanks. It looks like it covers everything I need to try to build the app I want. Now I just need some free time that’s not in the middle of the night… 😀

Ryan, no idea about that, I was living in Newport at the time and going to TJ’s most weekends. I know some of them did do daft things when they hammered though.

Sorry, I’ve just read my previous post back and it sounds a bit harsh. It wasn’t meant to, and I didn’t think that you were involved at all. With the exception of whoever threw the ashtray*, I stopped caring about any of it years ago. Like Steve says, most of us do stupid things when we’re young and drunk. I’m just glad I grew up before social media and the permanence of the internet…

As an aside, I’ve played in TJ’s. I was in my late teens and in a punk band. We were the last but one band on for an all day gig, and had a stage invasion and crowd surfers. Pretty impressive considering how bad we were ?

*Being a student club, most of our staff were students, and mostly girls aged 18 or 19. As you can imagine, they were the ones behind the bar when the ashtray was thrown.

Believe it or not, it’s been almost nine years! I posted on a folding forum at the time to pass on the news, and I’ve just found the thread

As an aside, the MicroMart team racked up just shy of 1.5 BILLION points! That’s an impressive amount, and something we should all be proud of ?

Ryan, not Metros. Used to get chucked out of there most weekends, along with some now famous mates.

                                    Yep ?

Not big fans of some of your mates though, if it was them. A few of them came in around the time that they were getting famous, and decided to play up to it. They threw a heavy glass ashtray at the bar staff and started a fight with the door staff. They came off worse (not surprising when less than half a dozen of them tried to take on about a dozen staff plus a few regulars ? ), and went to the police. We later found out that they’d had someone filming at the end of the street, and doctored the footage to make it look like they’d been jumped.

I never got the names of the people involved, but the rumour afterwards was that the most well known one came in with some friends and hangers on, and it sounds like some of them tried to ‘audition’ for the show. I didn’t know who they were at the time, so obviously didn’t recognise them, but I imagine that the cast had some trouble getting into clubs for a while afterwards, especially as there were only two firms running the doors at the time ?

I picked up a cheap Wacom tablet a while ago, and found that I was much more precise with the mouse. As you say, it’s probably muscle memory, after all, I’ve been using the mouse for fairly precise work for over 20 years.

I used to love new year’s eve, but I worked in a nightclub at the time. We were a proper little back alley rock club, and the customers were mostly regulars. By the time new years came around, the students were either home for the holidays, or had learned that starting fights got you nowhere fast.

The pub we’re ending up in tonight is very similar, so it should be a good night. It’s got a reputation as being rough and full of bikers, but realistically, the reputation keeps the dickheads out. It should be a good night away from the town centre ?
