@drezha the one I got last night turned up and it’s quite good. Well very good for 9.99 and the app can have up to 20 devices connected.

It’s bt, not wifi so you need to be in reach for it to work, but it has parameter alarms and real-time monitoring.

It has no Alexa or google assistant capability, but I’m sure I could use an app to monitor the notifications from the app to trigger stuff

If so I’d set an old phone up within distance to monitor and have ifttt report it/trigger etc. Sending the trigger to a nest etc via Alexa/assistant  ….

An Arduino would be the simplest way to monitor temps etc, or/and a pi, far more flexible but for under a tenner and 12-hour delivery, it’s a good.

If the output of parameters can be manipulated, it would be a cheap way to have a ‘trigger’ in each main room.

I think its a battery hog, but having an old android or iOS device use as the brains, plugged in would solve this.

I’m sure you could bypass the pi and use an Arduino to gather the data and push it to an android phone via bt, that could then send it to your server.

So many ways to skin a cat. I think I may get one of these for the tortoise house.

I knew, worked with,  an old brickie in about 2002, he was 65yo, had his hip done, 3 days later he insisted on returning to work. We had to lift him in and out the van and put him on running corners up.

The man was a machine. I’ve mentioned him before. He is the one that would play footy with his grandkids every day after work. His wife was always was in goal. If he had a bad bay and was knackered, he would ping the ball at his wife so she would give in, so he could blame her for ending the game.

Funny guy, I saw him a few weeks ago, retired 5 years ago, and the boredom has done him no favours. A proper old rum scouser.

Gist had a notification that my tomorrows delivery will be here today. So that’s nice. try it out later and see how it is.

It ended stronger than it begins. They can’t milk the skywalker tree out much more. It’s done

Saying that I really liked the last film that was a spin-off/side sorry. And it was shot more in the true spirit of the originals, more rough shot and cheese. this last movie is also id say closer to the original 3 than the other 4 after was.

That’s the last 4 in the series not counting obviously this one, and the one before it, that was a side story.  Even trying to discuss what ep is what is a pita with SW.

I’ve lost count now, but without giving away spoilers I think this story arch should be buried now. The SW universe is vast, why tether yourself to some branch.

One Strange thing, hardly a spoiler as it’s in the opening statement, the Empire has rebranded its self. it’s no longer the Empire. Though I’ve forgotten en already their new name. One nation or something.

I couldn’t help think of the Syrian patriotic rebels that we soon rebranded as Isis, once Putin informed the world we were supporting the illegal side, an illegal coup. We backtracked on the rebel “help” news, the BBC dropped the story, for it to be relaunched Isis just a few months later.

Probably shows how engaging the first hour of the film was. However, the ending is good. Anyone that has seen it, could you explain the pair of the die at the end?

I’ll google it, just in case it’s some spoiler.

Nothing to spoil, all the gossip film sites are just taking of the history of them .no mention that happens to them.

That was the issue I was hitting. There is quite a lot of kit that will do this, but it’s all too pricey. That £60 is about the cheapest entry point.

Cos of a few parts needed, the id of thought things like this would be a dime a dozen.

I could think of a load of reasons for small cheap smart thermometers to be useful. You could mock something up in an hour and have them on eBay the next day .may get my -slaves- kids to work over the Xmas break.

My soldering is also poor.  When I’m messing about with the kids, we just use pegboards and jumpers. Since my Lada turns 16 he isn’t that untreated arm, so I have to wait now for my 9 yo girl to take an interest. Atm, she only likes the end result, and has no patience for the whys and how.

She just zones out. Though my lad took some encouragement. I had to build the stock audio car, figure out the code myself, then work backwards from a cool car, to how to manipulate it, them to the code . not that I’m any good at that either. Mostly rewritten stuff, that is easily adaptable.

It’s more about spending the hours with them, and showing them how stuff works or trying my best too* . and hoping something sticks or even better lights a fire within them.

Quite often we would end a session completely stuck and id then spends hours googling solutions etc …

Most of the time I would be 4 am with a load of wires on my bed, and when you got the desired effect, shouting with glee. the wife waking and seeing something daft like a servo move. She’d Mutter something like ”f-ing d-head” and turning over.

No fun in that John ?

                    Didn’t think tbh ?

Thinking about it, such a table wouldn’t work ad its the average temp of the space we want. So a bigger space would need to be in a higher setting and vice versa

Just took a pint of this below. However, I’m still open to more options. Stuff can easily go back.

Good luck.my lad just got scammed by someone selling an Apple watch. As the sell gave a fake tracking number, PayPal paid out in under 24hours.

I was amazed, I was expecting it to run for a few weeks at least. So fingers crossed for you.

Do you have the Amazon app on your phone?  If so open app, open the side menu, scroll to the bottom, select customer service, then select the item you want to discuss from the drop-down menu. The select call me back.

Amazon will call you within 10 seconds. explain to them, and set up for u to drop off at your closest collect plus point.

That way you can drop it off this afternoon, and have your refund today or tomorrow.

I think your thinking of “Amazon Lockers” .collect plus is the old mail order return service. My local spar and one-stop shops offer to collect plus. Basically, they are sidestepping the post office.

You give it the server/cashier and they scan it in. As soon as they scan it, your item is classed as returned, for the most part. The local parcel delivery guy picks them up then from there. I find not easier as you have 30 days to return Amazon stuff, with prime at least, so it’s far more convenient to drop not off, has set a day for the pickup guy.

The lockers I think you mention, I’ve never used, are meant for people to have deliveries to it, the type that is never home in the day (most folk). Amazon alerts you that your item is there, and issue you with a one-time passcode to said locker

I know places like bus and train stations have them. Don’t think there is one close to my location. if I was away in London for example, I could order something for delivery to the closest locker to my location.

Last year in Spain I left my Nikon charger at home, my first thought was to buy and use the closest locker, sadly the service wasn’t available in Spain then.

I had to read that about 4 times John. I’m sure you know now today (mon)would be the collection day. Amazon like Google uses mostly computers and robots.

Your cancellation request etc ….. would never pass a human set of eyes. Amazon delivers and collects seven days a week.

I find it easier to return most things via the local collect plus shop. So I’ll tick that option instead of home pick up.

Sadly I was at the game on Wednesday , and us playing like this today make it even more annoying a night.

Also atm I’m in the flicks just over an hour into the new star wars, its a pile of poo, that’s cost me just shy of £30  for the boy and me.

                                The footy was good though.

Ed, unless the football is on, I really watch anything while driving ?

Jk, of course, I think the place whet it mounts should be on, and the only thing on the screen is the satnav, and that’s rare tbh.

If you the screen above my holder, that is where vx will put their upgraded screen, satnav enfotainment set up. For over £700 iirc.

Given I knew it is a poor system, I opted against that offer lol. and I think the higher placement would be too high on my car as you sit very low, much lower than 5 door Astra its based on. So it would be bang in your eye line, and would forever be taking your attention.

If honest the majority of the time I use sat nav, the listing is all you need. Until you get to a the very end of a journey.

You are right the law is being . iirc in as you not allowed any devices on for the first 2or 4 years of driving. At least our dvla now incorporate satnavs into the diving test

I a socialist that likes to own houses.

A perfect world would be the star trek set up. However, that is just socialist come communistic setup. Something is for sure, there always has to be a top dog and the minions, with one set of shmucks at the bottom of the hill of shit, in a capitalist set-up. This leads to war and the race to the bottom.

Communism doesn’t work In a bubble surrounded by a majority of capitalist states. as their imaginary money inflates, communist states ultimately go bust.

However, this doesn’t mean that communism is a failed experiment, as some call it. If we, the world, flipped tomorrow to such a set up it would work.but too many states, organisations and influencers, would never let it happen. Why would they take massive personal losses for the good of all future generations?

Something is for sure, as populations rise (should top out at 11bn ish) and automation and AI take over, less and fewer jobs will be available. There will be a tipping point where taxes won’t cover the states outputs.

                                    Then what? It’s coming.

We need a system where people work a few hours a week because they want to, cos their assigned to, etc… A world of almost full, micro-time jobs. And then other people that work for the status of it. Think of it as top managers would be full/part time, workers micro hours, but many of them.

All paid the same, all treated the same. All produce belongs to all.

This is a pipe dream, for such a thing to work countries need to come together, ditch borders and stop us and the philosophy.

The powers that be would rather its minions just kill each other I’m their quest to take lands and resources .as much as we think we have moved on, we still think the same as the Persians, Romans, English, Spanish and currently the Americans do. Ie backwards.

So I’m all for a united Europe, hopefully, pull in Russia too and even China, as if we keep fracturing, it will only get harder.

Just had a check while waiting for “her” outside Sainsbury’s. a vent mount won’t work for me.

I’m holding that paper at about 90 degrees of the top of the dash. My phone in portrait won’t even reach over from the air vents

The second pic attached is from my eye like to show how low you sit in the car. The 3rd shows where the cd mount is and how perfect it works out. But not for the app we are speaking of. (You can see my NFC tag on my mount that fires my car apps up on docking.

For some reason, I couldn’t embed any pictures today. So attachments will have to do.

Also apologies for the amount of dust my flash seems to of highlighted. It isn’t be seen with the naked eye

Update: I couldn’t embed and my attachments failed! So here is a direct link to the photos I’m their full glory.

The order of them is now off, but sure if anyone is interested they’ll figure it out.

It’s not put me off the app though. I’ll revisit dash top/window mounts after the new year. (Ill set a reminder for Jan).

If I was going to spend real money, id still by the xps13. But I love the ThinkPad keyboard and nipple, so I use that for work, and the CB to play. Chrome os is so much better than windows.

I think I’ll get a shiny new CB next year, some with Android app compatibility. That may mostly stop my window addiction.well depending on how the office works on it. The free version of office online works on CB but it’s just not there yet. Or wasn’t a year ago.

I’m not sure where the videos upload, I made an account, logged Into the app from app side, hit upload, and nothing appeared on the website. I wouldn’t use this feature mined, but do like to try them out.

Though using google photos we all get up to 1080p unlimited uploads.so we can just set them to upload when on wifi and com charge at night. Pixel owner I could take the piss and upload all mine in 4k till2021. That would pee the googs off.lol. I’m liking this app a lot.

How long you used it for?

Yes, I just meant a normal dash cam. However, it would work with a phone too.

I net with a phone there would be a way to upload the footage on the fly too*. It would take more juice to keep the system going.

*as long as your within a distance of your wifi, and uploaded to a home server etc.. Cloud would work our expensive.

However, my original comment was just to keep a normal DC going overnight, and let the car charge the battery via the day .the best bank would be a quick charge job, of about 10k mah. Plenary of juice for a few days, and will charge really quick with a 2.4 amp 12v plug.

when I had my bin issue I set this up to monitor who was contaminating my bins .never caught anyone as they stopped! Which was great but also frustrating. I was going to make a stealth pi camera but this was far simpler. And at the time wife was I’m hospital so had no time.

So I got a half decent dash cam and used one of my battery banks. Job done. It will shorten the life of the bank, but £10 (ish) for about 12 months is fine by me. They will be £5 next year.

I’ll have to check my car vents are in a decent place, my dash is not a traditional shape.

I’ll play with the app before I investigate the mounting situation.

Back to apps, I’m trying out a new keyboard by Grammarly. I’ll see if I’m any better with it after a few weeks. The only drawback so far is the placement of the emoji button.
