Im glade the you tube adds are whitelisted by default, I don’t find them intrusive, and I know the YouTubers are struggling enough with googles constant change of policies on what’s ad-friendly content etc.
If you use you tube, you should really leave the adds in place, that’s literally the youtube content creators mortgage payments.
Pm – I found the triple vs double gave little difference.
The real reason is I stole ram out of it for anther rig. Didn’t have any real world noticeable drop off, so never bother to replace it. Even though I have a few sticks of ddr3 kicking around now, just o lazy to break the PC open. Well scared, its old and working, i don’t want to jinx it by trying to fix something that isn’t broken.
Also i use it to work on most of the time now, may gaming 5ime on not is very low these days. I’d love to game more, i just don’t. I don’t think I’ve played a game this side of Xmas on it.
Buts its been a manic few months here tbh.
Thanks for the feed back guys. I’ve been using a pi on and off since gen one, so no the basics. I was just wondering if pi hole auto-launched on power up.
Still not moved (been away) and tbh it will probably stay where it is.
Also tonight I found out bt sports won’t load when going through the pi hole. I quickly white listed both bt.com and sports.bt.com, not sure witch fixed it, as I put them both in at once. The build up had already started, so it was a quick test, if that failed I was going to change my dns back to 8.8.8.8 I’m my router till the game finished.
Everyone has commented in the house at how much faster the net is. Spoilt kids, they have 80meg down (more like just 76) to share, and they complain about speeds lol.
Joking aside, its quite criminal how much time, band with and CPU power all the adds must steal from you. I do feel a bit dirty having the pi hole set up, but yea, sod it, the www mist be over twice as quick to load. And no more starting to read an article, them once the adds load it rubber bands you back to the top .
Does anyone know if the adds that are requested and sent, are actually counted on the advertisers end? Ie does it look like to them that they have server the add? So is some one charged, or rather lost one of their paid for adds.
Chist that’s almost the rig i game in still. i7 920 8gb ram and gtx970. The old i7 920, its like the terminated of cpus.
As dave said, there is far less power hungry alternatives out there today. I just can’t bare part with mine. The day will come.
The car is actually called the Arona, in its excellence Lux spec its very nice. Not my type of car but a decent compromise.
The 1litre engine felt fine around town but on the motorway doing 60 in 6th, i had to drop down to 3rd to overtake, which ran out of power quick. I forgot how weedy petrol engines are, mix that with it only being 1litre 3cly. However id get an auto, and the dsg is a quick box and its a 7 speed iirc, so “should” always be in the correct gear .
I have one issue with these small economical engines, they ain’t economical. The car had 2.5k miles on not and averaged 32mpg from new. For 32mpg costs id expect a 6.5s to 60 car. I reckon this is probably 11. I’ve not checked.
Boot maybe the reason we don’t go for that. It’s a tad small.
Pros are it has every bit of kit known to man, from auto lights to parking itself , though if you want an armrest, you need to get the top of the line. Which is bizzar given al the kit it comes with.
No rear chargers, however there is 2 USB in the going, and the 12v is right at the back of the centre armrest area so would just pass that test. No rear air vents either, bit i don’t sit in the rear .
The seats are fab, half leather/Alcantara and the leather very nice .
Good luck. ?
keep your hands off the nurses.
Does pi hole auto launch on boot. I am going to move the pi from where it is too next to the router.
Will pi hole launch when I power my pi back on. Or to I have to manually launch pi hole once raspbian boots up.
I’m hoping on the former.
Having set pihole up earlier, I can say I’m liking it. This is a big jump for me as I’m very anti ad avoidance.
Though I did install add blocker to chrome, to help my ageing chrome book.
Moments after I finish3d the pi hole setup and swapped the dns IP in my router. I noticed my router had a firmware update. As soon as I updated it, the whole think just packed in.
I’ve never seen the kids all want to speak to me in one go for a long time. Though they had nothing nice to say. It was like their worlds just collapsed.
I couldn’t connect to my routers admin page, even my cable, so I bite the billet and decided to do a factory reset. Thinking about all my ‘smart stuff’ I resigned myself to a night of settings crap up, I’ve long forgot how I set up on the first place.
Though to my surprise, after holding the factory reset button, the router rebooted, and all was fine. All settings in order and all working as it should.
I parted it on its pretty head. And carefully placed it back where it lives.
This pi hole seems to of turbo charged a lot of the sports related news pages. Very nice indeed.
It’s as if the gov wanted to get a foreign co to make it. As its said they had to tenure it across the eu, which isn’t strictly true, but let’s pretend it is. Why didn’t they just wait 12 months to tenure it.
Im not massively patriotic but to those that are, it would make them feel like a little win if thr gov said ‘l”due to this rule, we are holding off tenure to insure British only production”. Or some bs along them line. They would loose no face to the remain group, and only gain good feeling from the pro brexit people.
That is why it made me laugh when the news was released.
April 2, 2018 at 6:15 pm in reply to: Brexit – The only ones likely to lose out are politicians #19114Looks like Vx in elesmere port will be gone soon also. Although given its been running at under 50% cap for a long time, it was probably being part of the EU that was keeping it open. Though that won’t stop people blaming 5hr EU for its closure.<
Which is a shame cos the area is a pro remain region.
I took the 184bhp Leon ST FR outlast year back to back with the Skoda Octavia Vrs wagon 180bhp.
The Seat was a better drive, not quite as firm of the Vrs yet more pointy and direct. They have worked some magic over at seat.
Though the Leon is a little bland compared to the vrs, which in diesel form is the exact same car.
Saying all that, Ive now decided to go away form Diesel for the first time in 15 years. I could go with the 180 or 150 petrol even a 110 petrol.
The wife though will be better off with a hire car, due to here lack of flexibility. Bit I hate 4×4* or even crossovers.
I do like the pug 3008, but it would need to be in the gt line trim. That two comes with a 3cyl engine, I drove one for giggles, thinking it would be a dog. I was wrong it felt fine. Though if guess mpg would be garbage. Which defeats the point of a small power unit. (In laws got a ka for efficancy, my 2l diesel laguna was more efficient over its lifetime at 55mpg every month)
The big skoda is very nice, in sport like trim, but so is the price!
The seat Ateca is a nice crossover, but still its a crossover. This new seat Arona (iir ) looks decent and is keenly priced. So im off tomorrow at 2pm to check it out.
I don’t hate, I just hate them that have them and think off-roading is curb side parking.
The UK refs was all out of the running 4 weeks ago (or so), when fifa said it’s was going Virtual Assistant ref for the WC.
We have had about 3 VAR games in our league. And the ones we have held in the Fa Cup games have been handled poorly.
Many more leagues around the world have been VAR and to a decent standard. Surely they are the officials that should be in charge. Not out ‘behind the times lot.
Also its not been a good few years for UK officials. They don’t have some type of right anyhow to have to give us games to officiate.it just shows our medias built in ,go to, race bait attitudes.
Maybe there ought to be a Topic created – Old Pharts in better times…….Mis-spent Yoof…………. and we can post the pictures that defined the times, if not us.
Where cameras invented back then?
Go for it, it would be interesting and entertaining.
I loved the news it wasn’t made here. Just cos its so silly.
Sounds like I’m picking on her, but (lol not goods ever comes after a ‘but’), she seems incapable of getting a shot in focus.
It doesn’t matter what thr pjon3 or camera is, she will get 1 in ten in focus if she is lucky, and if she is really lucky that one in focus happens to be the one with a head.
Bruriness usually comes from bad light, so most older phones i understand. My phone the pixel and my old 6p, are famous for there low light performance. I could show you 100 photos i took one day at Camp Nou, when I left my nikon charger at home, and they are wonderful. Not with Doris tho, she just can’t do it. I think she does it on purpose tbh.
We go to weddings, as we all do, and ill take my Nikon. When we look through the shots afterwards, you can see the batches she took and the ones i took, very clearly. (Mainly cos hers ain’t).
Our last wedding in sept, my 9 year old also took over the camera at one point point, and followed the photographer round for an hour getting lessons. She has now officially surpassed her mother.
It’s like anything tech related just refuses to work for her (not she refuses to listen!).
It’s not like she has a bad phone camera either, her Huawei P9 has an excellent duel lens set up tuned by Leica. It’s very good indeed. But not in her hands.
I’ll stop now, i just hope she never visits this thread. Lol.
I bought out first sat nav, when me and dorris was going on our first foreign drive.
A few months earlier me and my BiL decided on Saturday night to drive to nice for the week, the next day. We sold it as a reccy for the upcoming holiday. Good job she said yes, as I booked the ferry while in the pub.
Me and him made it easily, map reading for each other while the other drove. 17h from north Wales to nice.
Coming home we zigzagged from city to city on the old trunk roads, mainly to save toll fees, but we found we saved about 1/3 the fuel to, and it was way more interesting if twice as long.
Now we always drive the trunk roads and county lanes, staying over at random places.
Anyhow, I learnt from that trip, if I didn’t get a sat nav, the trip would end in divorce. I have decent bearings and Geographical Knowledge of the UK, so even if I get lost, i can find my way back on track.
I don’t have that luxury on the continent. And given she can’t drive, or map read, both would be done to me. At that time I’ve been known to follow an atlas on my knew, I’m the UK. But there is no way i wanted to do that in a contrty with different signs, road lay outs, speeds and road atlases that have different standards to ours.
So i bought a tomtom or navman (cant recall ) off eBay. It turned up, and i soon noticed it had all the maps and unlimited updates, so was as dodgy as they come. Nut for £50, in the days of £150 satnavs, i never bothered to complain.
It’s still in my glove box now, i changed the battery in it last year (or the one before), and updated the maps. I’ll try it out later if i think on. Ill Probably forget.
Did the almera have one of the most comfiest rear seats? That and the Carlton for me had the best rear seat. Like two beds.
I’m going outside my wheelhouse Tuesday evening to drove a Seat Arora, its everything i hate about a car I’m one package. But i quote like it.
A whole 115bhp petrol with a meager 200lb-ft torque, from a 1 litre 3cyl engine. 7speed DSG.
It’s also a crossover. I’m dying inside writing this. The top of the line one come fully loaded, and is cheap. So I’m going for a spin next week.
Also taking out the Seat Leon ST FR 180 with dsg. Which is the front runner.
LBut this little Arora really me interested. I dont know why, joyfully it will be the Cactus all over again.
About two years ago i was a a family wedding that was held manchester the church and the do was 20 plus mins apart. The F/MiL don’t do sat nav, so said they would follow me. They got lost.
They rang was on a A road, a long one, but if they was going the correct way it ended near our hotel. Only they had no idea.
Given it was about 7pm, i simply said where is the sun? After the inevitable line ‘in the sky’, and me saying ill hang up and leave them lost, they told me the position of the sun.
I checked my phone map, against the suns location then I told them to do a u-turn, then said drive straight till you see x pub and I’ll meet them there. 10mins later they turned up. There 20min drive took 90mims.
Navigation doesn’t need to be hard, but some just don’t prep. And if your bad or rusty, you should prep more. God knows how my FiL made it in the Reme. I’m guessing he never lead the way!!
If my phome goes down, i have an Uk, Fr and Sp road atlis. I’ll likely never need them, but on trips they get taken out the wheel well, and put behind the passenger’s seat.
Pre sat nav. I’d sit at the table before i could right the directions to anywhere on a fag packet. Just a list of junctions to exit at and what road they meet, and the distance id be on it
Ie a 400miles round trip boiled down to 8 points. Extending the trip hardly ever ups the number points either .it’s basically just point to point map reading. Except i don’t need to carry beads or rocks to count my paces.
J31 on A55 20m
merge to M56, 20m
J9 m6, 50m
J15 A50 follow past utoxeter Maybe by 10m
A515 on the right. Follow north
Pick up signs for Alton Towers.
Simple effective, and safer than a sat nav. As i would know the route in my head before i left (seems ancient today), so all i had to do it, get on a road, anda a quick glance to see the distance of my next run, and know the next junction or road number i need.
Now i just input a postcode and follow the machine. Hardly taking note of the route in taking. Ask many underthe the 40s what route they took, just make up some roads, did you tell the m221 or the M67 followed by the b11. Most will say, i don’t know i filled my phone. But Q few will pick one of your two made up roads, not wanting to look ‘unmanly’. Lol.
It’s an art we are losing, but I’m not sure how as my kids love tracking our routes when on long trips. The only difference is 35 years ago id follow on a paper map, today on an iPad.
Thinking back, us kids the back came in useful in the times we got lost, my ant couldn’t read a map, but all the kids did, so we could say where we went wrong. To the amusement (not) of my uncle.
I did say that PM, but I like that Glypse is more powerful and Express is more simple.
Express is good to put on your kids/grandparents phone. And tell them in an emergency press that and ill save you.
Anyone that has kids fro 15 to cough 23, (or a wife) will know trying to get directions from them is, well…. Not good. So a simple app is worth it.
Also when the kids was younger, I had an app that would show you all the public toilets near by. Probably good for pensioners also.
I think George Michael originally eloped it.
You would think my wife is an executioner if you seen the photos she takes.
They have no heads . that would be a good joke is wasn’t 100% true.
