The issue is electrical officals, even non elected ones, no matter how bright, are not going to understand 1 percent of what MZ is talking about. There will be a small percentage of the small subset of geeks in the world that would understand just half of what MZ is speaking about. So he can say anything and they couldn’t question him properly.
Hell be saying the bare minimum in the most complex way. It’s why different jobs has silly languages. To keep common folk out, to make us look and think we are more cleaver.
Everyone from armed forces, marketing to law, and all jobs inbetween do it. It’s just programmers do actually talk a foreign language and knowing the basics just isn’t near enough to understand the workings of search and algorithms.
I could have a laymen term bash at an overall loose discretion, but even then I’d leave a layman like my wife dumbstruck. Nothing against my wife, but she knows not of programming languages or even the basics of the computing world.
So imagine how the likes of MZ can just bamboozle laymans, just explaining the littlest possible in a complex way.
Take our Dear Leader and her love of speaking about encryption and the need to kill it. Should good when you add it will save lives, but misses the whole point of it would break the whole Internet. I don’t blame her, some marketing bloke has had memo of GCHQ or the Met and neither nor he or the PM understand the issue, but know the masses don’t ether, so add, either terrorism or kids porn into some techno statement, and people will instantly agree without question..
FB Zuckerberg and his Lawers will be crafting the equivalent to his gov now. Basically tell them what they want to hear, with out telling them anything. It’s easy when you know the people you talking to understand zero of what you have to say.
I think once you put an ssd in your PC, you then have to upgrade all your pc’s. I think it was Moses that first said that. Tbh I heard he was more forceful than that. Bit like most he said, it was true.
I first put an ssd 30gb in my 2008 thinkpad, at that time in daily use that low powered c2d machine felt as fast as my then top of the line over clocked i7 920 with a spinner.
Thats how much an ssd helps in making a system feel snappy. It won’t help encoding, rendering etc, but in an old system it helps it feel far faster than it it. Or was pre ssd.
All my ssd’s would be classed as dog slow today. They was all “cheap” when new, and I don’t think I’ve bought one that’s in use, in 5 years. My 2 spares I must of bought 2 years ago. But I very much doubt I’d feel the benefit from upgrading to a faster ssd from a slower one. Benchmarks would but not to an extent worth it.
Ive upgraded for size, but speed no.
I always ignored libraries in Windows. I think they come on with 7, maybe even vista. I just never bothered with them.
Windows search has always seemed broken. Though I’ve not tried it works a while. A long while.
Google’s drive search is brilliant. But they get to use the power of Google to index all your stuff, I suppose ms only has the power of your PC, with Windows search.
That’s my point if everyone can get guns easily, it makes zero sense for the most vulnerable place to be a known unarmed spot.
For the last 20 years, schools have been a no gun zone, with no houses in a certain proximity allowed them either. So no one could even come to help if they even wanted to.
Now with the hiding bit, this has to be recent because of the above law change, I can only assume these are low paid security guards, with no attachment to the people they are ment to be defending. There main role is probably scanning kids for knifes etc.. Most people in that situation would hide, or make a token gesture. Wouldn’t you got sub $10ph.
Now if you allow the teachers weapons, I’d bet my left nut, if they took it upon them self’s to take a fire arm into work, they would die for thier kids.
This are shitty a argument to even be having, but if my kids went some inner city crappy school, I’d feel far safer knowing my kids teacher was armed. Though firearms don’t worry me, they are just a tool, and all tools can be used in the wrong way.
You’d hate my car Richard. Everyone that enters it moan cos I never have the air-conditioning off. Even in the winter I get warm in the car. Always set to 16.5 degrees.
Anything above 30mph it’s more economical to have the air con on than open a windows or roof. Which is all driving.
I took the bi xenons out of mine and swapped for ice white LEDs (6400kl iirc) , they was an extra 750£ option from Vx, cost me £10 for the 4 replacements, both DRL and main beam, (high beam on the gtc is just a mechanical lens, so no extra bulbs needed. I didn’t bother to swap the fogs out, as that was too much work, iirc the bumper or the inner wheel arch liner needed taking off.
Also the xenons are an expensive replacement . I asked Vx about their prices and I’m sure they said around £100 a pop. I like my LEDs they are super white. Though given most councils now have white LED lampposts it’s weary strange the first few times you drive into such an area. It feels like your lights are off, not cos you can’t see up the road, more you can’t see your own lights, it’s very much like turning your lights on on the day.
I can’t afford posh roofs ?
Tbh it was a monumental stupid move for Bill Clinton to ban guns from schools in the first place. People don’t shoot up police department in the US for a reason.
You don’t need guns at the school, you just need the ‘threat of chance’ .
Im a perfect world you would need zero guns, but the USA is far from perfect. But in a land where guns are rife, and control is lax and even uncontrollable even if you wanted.
So to remove weapons from schools is pure idiotic, moronic stupidity at its highest.
Maybe they should actually post armed security at evey school. As well as designate a percentage of staff have access to one. As it stands now, trumps new ruling just states teachers/staff can now have access to firearms if they want.
This does give the attackers doubt that the intended school may not be such a defenseless duck. I’d make it mandatory that’s there needs to be a minimum of a few staff trained and comfortable with fire arms.
Just untill firearms are brought under control. Which will be never as the NRA is to rich to let that happen.
I’ve not had a sun roof in a car since 2006! They are coming back into trend in the form of moon roofs, but they are expensive options.
Dropped wife off in town earlier with my eldest, she just walked In with the blue P20 (non pro) and it’s stunning and a far better size than the pro.
I’m hating the front figure print button, luckly you don’t need it much as the camera logs you in 9 out of 10 times. Even works in the dark! Though that 1/10 times when I need to use the figure print scanner it’s just not well placed and I don’t think as good as on my old two phones.
I think the htc desire is my favourite all time phone, followed closely by the 1 plus one and the pixel 1. Every time I pick up the pixel, it just feels right. Though this p20 p is growing on me.
Yes I too seen the documentary about this. I probably got the link via MM. It’s a good doc.
Though I can’t recall where I seen it. It’s probably on YouTube.
This may be it.
The hole thing stinks, the PM should apologise to putin and the Russian people. Then if they can actually find any evidence and link it to Russia with out any reasonable doubt, then and only then confront them again.
I still think it was an ex work colleague with the hump. Live by the sword die by it. You don’t get to retire when you are/was a spy.
Death is a work place hazard, in that line of work.
I did like the Russian response, not sure who said it and if they had any official capacity, “if we did it, it would be clean and done proper” or words to that effect.
My photos go off my camera, quick look detect the majority save the good ones to Google photos, Flickr, skydive and mega.
If I have some real nice ones I’ll back them up with the raw files to an hdd and pen drive . I don’t keep any pictures on my pc’s. Google photos is by far the best/simplest way to organise and share. Plus you always have access to your pics if your at a relatives.
I cba messing in windows to order my photos etc. Back in the day I’d use picasa which was great. Not sure that still exists, but no real need for it myself anymore.
That’s the thing with marketing, no one knows what the conversion rates are, or what part of their marketing strat is working.
There is a saying I’m about to butcher, “only 50% of our marketing works. We just don’t know which 50% it is.”
Each company is different, if your target market is clued up nerds that are privacy conscious, fb is not the place to sell your wears. Though if selling products it is.
I was reading something about Google ad revenues last months, it’s not the big boys of this world’s that Google are scared to loose. Samsung and apples of the world may give Google 10s of millions a year, but it’s the millions of small guys that spend £50 to 100 a go they need to keep. I’d suspect fb is exactly the same. So again I can’t see big biz having a break will matter in the long run.
They may withdraw for a week, month or maybe two, but when they see the masses are still talking about their fake perfect lives, or thier fake awful lives (cough attention seekers), plus Nan’s and grandads still there, along with their children, trying to ignore them, the big boys will soon be back.
We have never had such a large world wide communication network before, this is a big claim, but I think fb is now to big to fail. I also predict that nation states are going to want more access and maybe stakes, or the least more controls over their people’s access to fb.
Then depending how that happens and how gov’s treat it, it then could fail. But fail in a relative sense. Maybe lose a few hundred million active users, probably from whole states, rather than a worldwide revolt.
I can’t stand FB, I don’t even use it or have the app, so God knows why I’m arguing from their side. Lol.
Back before fb was huge, and pre all the adds and ‘news’, fb was a good place. Though I stopped using it about 2007/8. But I did like it at first. Then it got bloated and super spammy with html games and requests. I soon opted out. My profile pic is still of my youngest son holding my new born girl, in the hospital. She is almost ten, and him nearly 17.
I don’t know what you’re referring to Richard. All the billion unique are users, there may be some bits in there, but I think they cleared alot our end of last year.
I just checked on the FB monthly unique and it’s up from last quarter to 2.2billion up from 2b. So it’s still growing, just not as fast.
I’m amazed by the figures. That is basically everyone in the world with access to the net. All easily targetable.
FB marketing tools are brilliant. You can target down to the finest degree. Like, males 30-35, from area x, certain education and job, that’s single with interest in cars. There is no other platform that gives the advertiser so much control to target only the people it wants too.
This keeps costs down and gives are far better rate of return. If the people stay, the business stay. As an advertiser there is no better place to spend your pennies.
As to being tarnished by fb, fb itself is hardly tarnished. The mass public don’t care. they should and the media is telling folk they should, but the reality is, no one actually does.
Plus today’s headlines are tomorrow’s chip wrappings. There I will be another scandal tomorrow that will make everyone soon forget about this.
I think memory span for such things it’s 6 weeks. I’m sure it’s the fbi maybe cia, that said they need a ‘big display’ evey 6 weeks to say in the publics mind.
That was my point. If they [biz] do leave then FB may struggle, but unless the people leave on mass, biz won’t leave, you have a captive market that is cheap to target.
It’s a chicken and egg situation in revers. The people need to leave before the advertises will go. Fb is that big, iirc over 1blillion individual monthly unique visitors. That’s almost the entire online world goes there once a month. That’s one frigging huge boat to stop.
I think FB could just about get away with anything at this point. Which is a very scary thought indeed.
As you say the sheep follow the herd without thought, however the real impact will come if the Corporates fear that they will become tainted by FaceBook. If they walk a lot of the attraction for the herd disappears.
I think the oppersite will happen Ed. People don’t go to fb because big business is there, most couldn’t care less. As long as their circles are they they will stay.
Now if big biz does abandon fb then fb may struggle to keep the lights in, however if the people don’t leave, neither will big biz and it’s advertising.
It depends what your after in a phone. If you like video capture, the p20p isn’t the phone for you. It sucks compared to most phones
Photos is great, especially low light. However no top to med tier phones from the past couple of years arnt exactly bad at that.
It’s a good phone, but has its flaws. Thr ui isn’t great either, it’s very ios rip off, so I used nova launcher to make it look more stock.
The os itself isn’t as pretty as stock, however has alot of generally useful features over stock.
Now I’ve got it in a (clear) case, and a proper tempered glass screen protector, it’s feeling a lot better in the hand. Also just received a skin in the post, that I’ll be putting on in a moment.
Update- skims on, it looks very nice now, way better than black. The two tone one is nice, but a tad girly for me
My wife, after being offered the P20p and refusing it, has been hinting that she likes it now!

It will soon be forgotten about. I can’t see FB going anywhere. I’ve spoken to many ‘normal folk’ and non are bothered at all.
For most it’s now the defacto place to communicate. Normal folk won’t give it up as they are too scared on what they will miss.
They will lose some numbers, but I’d guess it won’t be more than 10% of pre this current shit storm.
I don’t use it, but I’m the only person I know, bar my FiL who doesn’t count, everyone is on it. Tho since last quarter last year (iirc) FB unique monthly visits was down for the first time ever.
Probably down to an algorithm tweak rather than real people leaving
