I’m taking rubbish. It was taken in aperture mode not portrait. So I probably confused the life out of you lol

Lol I have a hand full of 3 or 4mm neodymium magnets just for this job.

Also i built a Tortoise enclosure for my tortoise (what else) built into my kitchen.  I used magnets to keep it shut, as she would take a run up to bash the doors open. My tortoise house is a masterpiece. It has 1 way windows so she can’t see out. Torts don’t like to see out, they get spooked.

I love the look of Germany, it’s just a hard sell to Doris, though Klopp seems to of softened her to Germans a little?

The world is a big place, so it’s easier to pick somewhere else. But one day I’ll get there.

Although when we do Italy, that Romantic road route would be a decent and differnt way home. Hop over the alps up to Munich north up the road and either cut though Belgium or Holland. That’s the fun of driving. The world is your lobster Rodney.

With not having live TV, I just had to ask the wife has it been, or when is it. So I’ve seen zero and I mean zero content or mentions of it.

I love not having tv. Also my only radio station is Talk Sport, so they don’t get a mention there much either.

Personally noting against the pair. But I do have a gripe with “extended royalty”. OK he is a Prince. But I think his prince like should end with him. He will never be king, so what’s the point of his kids being called Prince. Mr or Master, should be enough

Google Duplex is real. That was just a skit on it.

Here is the actual demo at io last week.

I call complete BS on the Dog toy video. Many people make videos trying to sniff what, if anything is being sent up stream. I’m yet to see one that finds anything. The usual tests are watching traffic when Echo or home, are listening to when their not. You can clearly see the difference.

If Google was listening to all mics around the world, just imagine the traffic volumes. And imagine the videos proving it, and the press shouting about it.

My google home gets to hear me snore all night.

I buy 99.9% ipa by the liter on eBay. Great stuff.

I was doing on project once, and notice the extractor fan was looking grubby, took 2 mins to wipe the out side down, then I dug inside of the hood (never do that) and spent the next hour attacking it with ipa rags.

Point is it will clean everything. Between that, white vinegar and baking soda, (and tescos cheap detol clone) you don’t need nothing else ever. Chuck in duct tape and you could build, fix or clean anything ever.

Mine is an older Samsung one. Still works as described all those years ago (I think)

Thr older ones, as usb2 ports could only manage a power throughput of around 500mah, needed a ‘Y’ usb2 cable. Two USB ends plugged in to two USB ports on Thr pc/lappy, the single ended usb plugged into the dvd drive.

Mine iirc only write at x8, not fast, but I’ve never used in that way.im sure they are more up to x32. Mind is about 10 years old. Cost around £15 at the time iirc.

Mine lives in my pc repair kit. Though on my last few jobs, it’s all been download to install including windows . Just make a bootable USB flash drive. Keep that in thr PC repair kit too. It’s about all you need today.

John you may be best investing in a USB dvd rw. I’ve not owned a PC or laptop since 2008 that has a dvd dive in it. Something I rarely need and tbh I don’t think I’ve used my portable one in a few years.

This is the first hit on Amazon, you could probably get the rw down 5o about a tenner if you look about. Also i wouldn’t get hung up on usb3 over 2, they are slow either way, and the writing takes the time anyhow.

USB 3.0 Portable Slim External DVD RW CD RW Drive DVD CD Burner, Writer, Copier, Reader, Rewritable Optical DVD Drive for all Laptop, Desktop, Netbook, Notebook, Apple MAC – Victorian Systems® (DVD RW Drive) https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01FOSM9BU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_OGZ9Ab51FXVVQ

I’d opt for the rig with the 240gb ssd and the non rw dvd, and supplement it with the above (or similar). Maybe try and source a pc without a dvd drive altogether if possible.

As l there is little doubt in the future you’ll be getting laptops or small form factor pc’s that don’t have a drive so it will be an investment.

Can we not still get the free win10, if you where specs or have to use the windows magnifier?

Think all my pcs come though that route.

The issue with windows is in order to make it more user friendly, (mass market users), it makes the less mass user needs stuff harder.

Very much like iOS, if your not tech inclined, it just works, and there is one button to get you our of any trouble. Try doing anything remotely “different”, and you’ll be pulling your hair out.

On the flip side, i figures out how to gain access to remote folders on the mac in about 30 seconds.and was super simple. On my first go at using a mac in anger.

I don’t by macs, but my eldest son, drink at the apple alter, and my house now has 2 iMacs, 2 airs and apparently a MacBook pro incoming. So as my lad hands the apple stuff on to his brothers and sisters I’ve had to start supporting that in the house too. And tbh i quite like it. It’s very mint.

Still don’t get the dock thing.

I do think Jobs was onto something comparing the phone and table to a car and a PC to a van. I just wish MS would leave the Van alone. I still use ten for the same stuff as i did XP in almost the same way. All the other stuff that had grown on it is all but useless glitter to me. I do wish they would spilt off a pro ed, and a free home RT ed. Not gonna happen, at least not in the way id like it to be (modular), but it would be nice.

I reckon I’m gonna dip my toe back into the chomebook world. Mine is all but dead now, but even the earlier chrome os, was brilliant. It just worked. Now it has android app support, it has to be almost on par with windows for application and productivity. And in some cases, exceed that windows can do. Suppose that sort of answers my issue with windows forcing us into something we don’t want, or rather we don’t know we don’t want yet.

I’ve gone off piste again .

It’s a real shame we can bank of the weather. If we could i don’t think id need a passport. Some wonderful places thoughout the UK.

We will be spending 5 days in loire valley (tours), 3 days Zaragoza, 10 in Torrevieja, 5 in Marseille and a couple of pit stops.

So quite an adventure, bit never too far from the boat. Think we are also staying close to Sossions too. Best check on that lol.

All booker and planed on my phone with apps. More structured than last time out, where we just booked 3 days in La Manns, and booked a return ferry 30 days apart. Though we only did 25 days and pulled the return ferry forward.

That was a good holiday, we just picked a direction we fancied and started driving, and found digs while on the road. Worked out stupid cheap for digs. We stayed in villas, apartments, a caravan and the dirtiest cabin ever. Lol.

Probably want to do Germany next year, bit she isn’t a fan or the germans, even though my G grandad was one. He was a RN officer and had his name changed when ww2 broke out. Went from Metzla (dont know the spelling) to Metcalf. So well probably hit Italy, and maybe Malta, health and time depending.

I’m that lazy, I’ll just use a USB stick or even the cloud to send files rom one PC to another.

Also i have the share hdd drive attached to my router, that all pc’s and phones can see. So I could use that. Untill now, I’ve never thought about the router hdd as an option  to move stuff around.

funny how simple solutions are in front of us, with out ever seeing them.

Bob I notice you said insurance for abroad and uk.

Do you take out insurance for your uk travels? If you don’t mind, why?

My insurance is in with my bank account. But as Doris isn’t to good, we purposely stick to the continent, within 11h of Dover, just incase she takes a turn. I can have her on a Dover hospital in under 12h. Probably 10h if I really needed to shift.

If we was to fly anywhere, I couldn’t be doing with things not being in my hands, in an emergence situation.

Ive never heard of uk hol insurance though.

Yes, portriat as in focal lenght, for a shallow depth (or not). The P20p goes down to f0.95

Though there must be some trickery going on digitaly as I reckok the spec is F1.8 or maybe 1.6. So some magic is happening to get it down to 0.95.

                                      Either way it works well.

I have an album linked above with a few test shots in from this phone. I’ll link it below. This phones really party piece is low light. It was also the pixels, but this takes it two steps higher.

After all my gushing about this phone, I still don’t really like it as much as I did my last handful of phoens. It’s not stock, and I find it’s more buggy than my past few phones.

Yes that was. 0.95 aperture. It works as quick as normal mode on this device. It’s really impressive, in the camera department.

It’s video is ok at best. Probably putting it down. It’s very good, but up there with the pixel and it’s contemporaries.

How is the video on the 5t? On the one plus one, it was it’s weakest part. Though one of the first with 4k shooting, the colours was neon. Though I don’t do any video shooting so it never bothered me.

Here is the same shot in photo mode.

When we had a phone plugged into our home line, I did enjoy stringing them along when bored.

I used to love playing Mr stupid (it’s not a hard role for me). had one guy spend 20 mins explaining his Stepps one by one. At about the 20 min mark he said what do you see, I replied ” oh you wanted to do that, I was writing it down, I’m really sorry”, he went on again for 20 mins, getting angry thst his instructions wasn’t working on my machine, then I asked how ms had my number given I was on Linux. Saying my lad put it on.

he attempted to carry on, down a different route, as he thought  i was a complete  fool, until my tea was ready, (or similar ) and I told him what a tw*t he was.

He was extremely rude to me. But at least why he was on with me, he wasn’t scamming some old woman or fella out of their pension. Also i enjoyed it.
