I hope the weather keeps good for you bob.
I recall about day 3 of basic, being bent over a medical bed, jabs in both arms and a couple in each cheek. While I was bent over the Matlow doing the jabs, cracked a joke about my position and a Matlow stood behind me.
Thinking back, very pervy given he was about 40 (probably 30), but I was 16..
Its probably his line to relax everyone, but thinking back he wasn’t doing the Matlow reputation much good.
I was sick as a dog for the next two weeks to. Alot of us was. Not good when your in maximum peak bullshit period of training. I hated the first 6 weeks, got really fun after that. After week 15ish, the bullshit totally ended, and it got really serious and fun.
Richard I too have pulled something in my left shoulder. Last night I laid a new lawn I’m my back, woke this morning and I can’t turn my head left more han about 10 degrees.
Typing I’m my pc earlier was not great, Especally as I use my left hand for a number pad, moving my hands from the yet board to the pad. I gave up after about an hour, and have spent the day mostly idle. Moaning a lot, and getting very little sympathy!
The car batteries maybe capable of rimming a car for 350k however, how many cars do you see on the road past 14 years old? Very few. It’s not cos their engines fail, most engines would do 500k if looked after, but most are scrapped around 150k cos all the electrics are failing year on year.
Now an EV is going to suffer the same issues. (tin hat time) I’m sure it’s built it, as today a car needs to hit 3 bases to be seen as a success, 1. It needs to make the original buyer/leaser happy, and hold about 40% of its value over 4 or 5 years. With non or few issues 2. The second owner, he will except issues building and sell the car around 8 to 10 years old, for about 1k, then 3. Last the car need to last 4 years. Then the cycle continues.
If the car hits them 3 marks, it’s deemed a success and all 3 owners are satisfied. It’s just what we are now conditioned to accept. So there is no way we are going to see many if any EV cars with 350k miles on them.
In general an EV won’t be able to cover the millage of an ice car. Thou given the average milege is 30miles a day, an EV could, but your not going to see real high mile ones, as you can’t drive one for more than a few hours with long charge breaks.
Just like l ice cars, they will be retired around 15 years old, with good motors and batteries, at around 100-150k miles. Maybe earlier given the amount of electrics in them.
Ive never got rid of a car cos of mechanical issues, they are relative chip to fix and simple to diagnose. Now electrical issues are the ones that kill most cars. Usually to expensive to diagnose, never mind fix.
Once the car gets to about 8 years old, (iirc tesla extended warranty is 8 years), once out of warranty no one is fixing the slowly dying lights, locks, air con etc… Then one day you realise your car is a bag of crap and it need offloading for the 1k to the last guy in the chain above.
Oems are not going to start selling us cars that last 25 years. As we are now conditioned to the 14 year cycle. Everyone’s happy it seems.
So I’ll go back to my original point, in ten years there is going to be a lot of battery cells ready for a new life. Tesla already is already referring end of life batteries, and using them in the tesla power wall (I think they call it) .
If you change it to UK, it will give you £s. Ali express is the consumer arm of Alinaba. The company is huge. Apparently bigger than Amazon.
Example

Ed in regards to your car EV point as a back up. That is one idea but comes with issues like warranty ect like you said. However the cars battery pack is only good for about 100k before the start to degrade to quickly.
So at that point they are end of life for a car, but they are still good for running a home, as it’s far less work than plumbing our massive amounts of power quickly. Compared to a car, the house is far easier on the battery and it should last for years.
The tesla house wall batteries are reconditioned ex car cells. So at some point eventually, we are going to have a lot of ”used” battery cells, kicking about.
There will be other uses for these batteries by then I’m sure, but I think a home battery if you have PV should be high on anyone’s list.
If you have suitable PV set up and battery, there would be no reason to have to stay on the grid, apart from having a back up. But I’d rather get a genny as a back up, and save all the standered charges.
If you don’t have a battery, you’d stay connected to the mains for night times or share falls etc…
Or you could have PV with battery, and mains, and just have it feed back to the mains once the battery is at 80% and have it pull from the mains if the battery gets to 20%, but have it only run the house and not top the battery.
It would be a simple enough to implement, it probably already exists, and would be an simple enough to retro fit to an existing PV set up. I can’t see why it doesn’t already exist.
All this type of stuff is much more popular and more advanced in the USA there is some great YouTube channels of people that do all the off grid stuff for a living. Some great efficant pv air con set ups, not that we need them here.
Engineer775 is a good example of one of the channels.
There must be button combo to turn on Windows talk back (the thing that talks you through everything the mouse pointer hits ) to aid the blind.
Try turning that on, then moving the mouse to the display settings and mess there.
Or/and
As you can see the monitor, having a laptop open next to the PC monitor to aid your search for the display settings.
I don’t envy your task.
If you get no look with the display settings, roll windows back to yesterday.
4. The owner. Same as the owner pays and/or maintains everything they own.
It should be a financial benefit decision. More of a life benefit. But this is where the financial benefits should increase as costs drop as manufacturing costs fall.
Your first 3 points seem non issues. 1. Both. 2 you own and operate your own if you wish.
My FiL has been threatening for years to dig dig up his back and lay a load of pipe. It doesnt even need to be that deep to work either
If I was doing a rebuild or big revamp I’d defo be looking closely at it.
If the gov was really serious about clean energy, they would be demanding all new builds that can, should install PV and something like ground source pumps.
Also maybe insentives to install PV before a sale. Tax breaks or the like.
It would do 2 things, 1 bring down the costs of PV cells etc 2 within about 20 years, the numbers of people feeding back into the grid would really be significant. In 40 years maybe the grip may just be used as a battery to fill in spikes and nighttime use.
Anther thing my FiL is always talking about is installing batteries at his place to harvest his PV from the day for nighttime use.
The tesla battery banks are great, but atm priced high, hopefully when solar city takes off, and we have more EV cars coming to end of life, we will have a surplus of battery banks that will be fine for running a house for many decades.
Though 20 years ago labour should of had a couple of nuclear power plants ordered coming online now to fill the next 40 years gap until we get self sufficient.
I’m sure the electric lobby will have a hand is us not getting self sufficient to quickly.
I’m not a fan of eBay, buying or selling. I only now buy cheap tat like stuff off them. And even then lately I’ve been using Ali express over eBay. If I’m really not in a rush for a cheap item, I’ll use wish. Stupidly cheap but long waits.
That’s cool, I was took there a few times as a kid. That’s when they was decent, Pre winning the league days. I’ve never personally minded Leeds. But that maybe down to the massive dislike man United fans for them.
My enemies enemy is my friend and all that.
I bet they are are playing at Ellend Rd is cos that game just won’t attracted the numbers. And a 90k stadium will look terrible with 25-30k fans in it. Id imagine Leeds holds around 30 to 40k, from what I recall it’s a relatively big ground.
It’s better to fill out a smaller stadium than have a huge one 1/2 empty. Even if the latter one is actually more seats sold. I’m assuming the £10 a ticket thing from a few months back, didn’t go to well for them.
I always feel sorry for the fans in the section with the drums and bugles etc… We don’t have any of that, some away teams might, but usually I’m in The kop or towards the kop in the Kenny stand. Still not made it into the new main stand yet.
I love footy song, and we have quite a hymn book. Don’t like the new one we nicked from Porto, it’s good but it’s been milked to death, and it never ends, never.
My favour song is poor scouser tommy. When you have 15k singing it in the kop it’s an emotional song. It doesn’t come out much, always on derby day, as there is a last verse about beating EV 5-0 and rush scoring 4.
Here is the one we nicked and adapted from our 5-0 (iirc) away win at Porto. (it’s been a great year). This was taken in the fan park about 3h before kick off last week ? it’s a great song, and I have no idea, how this was stolen from Porto adapted, and then the following weekend 2 or 3 days later, the whole away section knew it, there is alot of words, and sang it for a full hour after the game (we get locked in an OT). Klopp brought the team back out and the just all Sat on the edge of the pitch untill we got let out. Only then we didn’t want to leave, as the team was there.
Problem is it is too good, so now I hope it gets retired a bit for next season, but I can’t see it.
Klopp is an ace guy, he is a true football fan, he just gets it. Tbh we may just all be wrapped up under his spell. But from the inside, I’ve never known Liverpool the club, the fans, and the team and manager, to all be on the same page and happy. I can’t remember a time in my adult life.
Rumor has it Fekir’s agent is at anfield now. If we get him over the line too, our midfield, should be amazing, kaita, Fekir as attacking mids, and fabinho anchoring it. Maybe a new centre half. I think the future is looking good.
Bob we are so alike, I detest shopping. If it wasn’t for the Internet, I’d be a naturist.
Lucky for me (unlucky for my two girls) the wife too hates shopping, so we don’t do the whole wandering round shops.
However matalan is up there with the worst offenders at being a terrible shopping experiance.
It can be empty, and you’ll still queue for 20 mins, then be told you need a card, so you have to lie, do the whole -‘it’s in here somewhere’, then they give up, and scan their personal card just to get rid of you.
Not a fan. I’ll happily pay Amazon their fee, just to not have to go in shops, and I can order up to 11pm for most things, and it usually turns up about 11am. We must be in the middle for the amazon guys route. Same guy comes my house at least 4 times a week.
It’s got to the point if we’re not in, or don’t get to the door, he opens the door, and places it on the mat, and closes the door. And he scribbles an e sig for me. I don’t mind that.
LOL as I wrote this the argos guy just turned up, for the second time today. I come home this morning to new quilts, apparently the old ones (mine was only 10 or 15 years old) smelt of dog, and the dogs are not to go on the beds no more. Lol, that’s never going to last. Well I know one dog is in my 10 year olds room now, while she is online, so I know exactly where the dog will be, and it won’t be the floor. God knows how much she paid for 7 quilts? But mine isnt right, it’s heavier than my old one. This one is a 10t so I’m assuming the old one was 7.5t. See how tonight goes.
My personal hate is drums. I love crystal Palace, but oh my the frigging drummer.
Could of Gone to watch Brazil today, but we just cba, should of really, they have some ok players I’ve heard.
I’d like England to turn back into a traveling team, like when Wembley was being rebuilt. I love the idea of them playing in Newcastle, Anfield, old trafford, villa park, Im sure they played at the Dell once too (may of been St Mary’s by then) .
My point is, at least in Liverpool, there is a saying, scouse not English, it pre date even thatcher, but to the days when England was just see as a London club, in the early days, England was made up of mainly local teams, mostly cos back them it wasn’t a 4h train trip for the underpaid players. So not many would be that bothered to play, and the average fan couldn’t afford to go to london to see a load of players they didn’t really know. (then the whole thatcher thing happen, which cemented the ‘not English’ thing).
A few month ago, on the radio, I’m sure England friendly (may of been a qualifier), was selling for £10 a ticket, (just shows the demand for England tickets), the wife asked if I fancied it. Even at that price I cba driving to London, getting a hotel, then watching a team I just don’t care that much for. Now if they was playing Brazil (even though I just admitted I cba to go today) I may be interested. But I’d be way more interested if I cold drive 40mins to watch them.
And I’m sure many other northerners feel the same. They only need to pick about 5 grounds found the country, and work on a cycle. Id bet they would fill every ground for every match. Maybe not old Trafford, as that just seems to grow every year.
Caught the last 25. Wasn’t great viewing.
BL it made me, and every Liverpool fan I know laugh, when Italian “journalists” was claiming 1000s of scouse ultras was coming to Rome for a dust up.
LOL, it’s hardly the 70s and 80s, the only fans that can afford to travel to these big away games are all in there 50s and 60s on average.
Ive not seen a fight at anfield, or any away ground since I was young. Probably the 90s.
Bar the league cup final in Cardiff (2002ish), but that was neither the Liverpool fans or United, it’s was the local Cardiff city fans. Now that was organised, and the police was so outnumbered they just had to stand back and watch.
There is isolated incidents, your lot had its moments this year, but hardly organised ultras. Plus they just wanted to do the owners in, so I suppose blue on blue is sort of ok. Or should that be claret and blue… I’ll stop now.
That’s seems very optimistic, to think they will even get to take off ten times.
There was a stat kicking about a few years ago that over 90% of all check out baskets are abandoned due to friction of payment. Ie people don’t like, trust or cba, filling out payment screens.
This is why most sites, now offer PayPal as an option. Personally I like it when they use Android pay as I only have to use my fingerprint to check out. Ali express, has a list of about 7 alternative check out methods. Android pay and PP are amongst them.
With the PP check out, as ed said it will asked you if you want to use the address in PP, that your will auto fill, or you can check the alternative address button, then you get bounced back to the site, and what happens then is site specific.
PayPal won’t charge you, untill you hit the final checkout button on the site (matalan in this case)
If you do get stuck, I’m sure you could call the shop, or call in, and get them to order it online and you pay at the till/over the phone (thou over the phone is the most insecure way to pay for anything), then you’ll have to go back to pick it up.
Your PayPal will provide matalan with your address
I didn’t know they worked as simple BT speaker either. Thanks for the heads up
I use my head phones like that. Same pair, service my phone (3) , my pc, laptop and watch, and also car.
They rearly get mixed up. And if it is its always the phone wanting to bully control of the Earphones, if say I’m listening on my laptop, but a simple toggle of the phones BT fixes that.
I suppose it’s earphone dependant on how many seperate connections they can store, but mine must have At least 8 BT access points.
Something ignored on the the spec sheet, when I’ve bought BT buds before.
How good it would be if he dropped chelsea.
Jk aside, he won’t as he only bought it (and other up proper) originally so that he had assets the Russians couldn’t seize at their will.
It was a bit dicey early 2000s.. He won’t sell, but he has said he wants the club to support itself. That was the 7 year José plan, that didn’t work, we woudo be at year 5 now.
So I think he is stepping down bit by bit, I doubt they are going to be the big hitters they was ever again.
Funny enough I’d give the job to Big Sam. He has always wanted a big club, and he would take 7 year contract for peanuts. I think he would do well at a club with a decent budget.
If they bring in another ‘big name’ they will be back here in 2 years.
