That’s very interesting BL. I may try my sim it later to test. ?
That’s good Dave though I’d get a lower one. Given I doubt I’d near that amount of data.
Iive orders an free ee sim, which seems adequet. But what I’ll do is find out what, if any, networks work the best at the location. As 3 and ee dint seem great. Suppose I’ll ask the patrons and staff.
All sounded good, but 3 isn’t.great at thd pub as you mentioned.
Hmm… Do you know of Anyhing on ee or o2?
I miss the speed limiter function my old car had. I was surprised the new one didn’t have it, as it has a lot of stuff. Including crude control, which I’d guess used the same sensors and system, just in a reverse type fashion.
I didn’t use the limiter often but going into cities and busy area I don’t know. It was nice to set it to 30mph and not need worry about my speed. As in new automatics it’s so easy to nudge 50 without noticing youre speeding up.
I personally hate clocks. I hate ticks, and I hate leds too. So my house is almost clock less.
I can’t even keep my watch on my wrist or on my bed side cabnet because of the ticking.
Although I now have an Google home hub next to my bed and it’s got the dimest led clock o na black back ground. It’s is the clock I’ve always wanted and never knew.
It’s that dull you really have to focus on it at night. In the day (or when the light is on) it is a superb picter frame. That scrolls though 15uears of Google photos. I’m not the sentimental type, but evey now and then a picture of a holiday 10 years ago, or a sports day 15 etc.. And It brightens my mood.
The wife has already told me, the Google minis are to be replaced by hubs. Once they come on offer. If you have digital photos, I think for 100 quid it’s a steal. Speaker is an upgrade on tdh mini also, so it’s win win.
Though I’ll be pairing the replaced mini with the hub in each room for stereo sound.
Earlier today I was reading an artical that recons laws will be coming in around 2022 stating that all new cars will be gps speed limited based on the road, (no more speeding), auto braking, Lane keep assists, us a whole host of safety inspired kit..
So the gimmick are coming for all. 2022 seems a bit close, but tbh most higher entry level cars have all this kit already.
Mine has it all, it recognises road speeds, it has emergency breaksing, it has radar ruse control, lane assist. All it takes its a bit of software to link it all together. And the gov can track you and slow you down. Alot of cars that didn’t even tick the option box, also gets thd kit, it’s just not activated. Alot of thd time it’s cheaper to put one “widget” in all veriants and charge to turn it on. Ie tick the option box.
So gimmicks are here to stay and rule us.
Tbh the day this happens is thd day self driving cars become a thing in alot of peoples minds. The day self driving cars actully happen, is the day car ownership will start to die. As I wousl be happy to subscribe monthly to a service that collects me and drops me off when summoned.
You could call it a driverless taxi, but I’d call car share leasing. That is the future. If I could get a family plan, for the same cost as running a car costs, I’d do it. No more dad’s taxi, the kids just summon their nearest car when they need to go anywhere. That is the future for me.
I also like matching tyres. Your head would of exploded of you was with me when I had a blow out in France last year. (no spare in modern cars!)
So tow truck to a tyre place. They said they could order a matching tyre for the Monday (it was Wed iirc), we was due to move on to Spain on the Friday.
They had a salution, they had two tyres that would fit my car, but the was 255/55/19s and not the 255/45/19s I have.
So not only was they a different make they was different sizes also. So I had larger tyres on the rear to the front.
Cost me almost £400 for the pleasure, and had to leave a perfectly good michalin in France, As I had no room for it. Great afternoon that was! NOT
Swapped then off as soon as I got home, it was cheaper as my local garage took the 2 new (2k motorway miles) 55s off me and discounted the 2 new 45s for me. Iirc that was about anther £100! I only went out for milk and bread.
My car seems to realign itself every time the lights come on. Ive noticed on start up at night, the lights move up and down left and right. I just see it as someone’s future headache and cost. I’m not a fan of tech for the sake or it.
My FiL always goes for the most basic of cars. He choose a ka (in 09 cash for scrap deal) bog standard, no central locking, windy windows, no ac (I think), the thing is a bare as a 2009 car can be. His reasoning was “less to break”
I really do see his point, Especally as today’s cars are being stuffed with tech that’s not needed. I’ve had a lot of cars that where 10 years old, by 15 it’s not the engine etc that’s dead, it’s all the electricals that have gone to far, and the is past it due date.
For about 50 years a normal everyman car has to fulfil 3 periods of life, 1.the original buyer or leaser,2 then it has to hold some value so at 4 years old it can be sold for about 5-10k (type depending) . Then comes stage 3, the stage we all start at, the 1-2k car. That has to live another 4 years, then die.
If a car fulfils these 3 cycles, the car world keeps turning. Everyone is happy with their purchase, and would buy again. Though everyone wants to move up from a stage 3 owner to a stage 2 or 1 owner.
This is the life of a normal car. Now if we fill all new cars with tech, I can’t see them getting to stage 3. Or not enough to fulfil the demand. All new cars will be failing way before there 14 year death date. I can see an issue for the whole market in about 8 years time or so.
I just finally got round to creating the addu out of the domain I got last week. I used Google suite, and it took all of 2 mins to do. It auto recognised where the domain lived (ie the domain holder) then auto autrised it, via a log in splash screen to the domian, then it was done.
Opend my Gmail app, add new user and it poppep up and all works. Great.
Need to dig into the rest of g suite. But that’s for anther time. As of now I have my domain set up. Need to produce a couple of variants of the same addy. but for now it’s good to go.
Was extremely easy. Cheers.
Now I have 4 days to program my new till system. Now that’s going to be fun. But Atleast I’ll not be terrified of it once it’s up and running. The one in thd pub atm bust be 20 years old, and hates me. Plus I’d never be able to re program prices. Come to think of it, that’s why it may be so cheap in there atm lol.
I’ll check that out Dave cheers. I do like the apple keyboard. The way you can swip down to use the second function selector. Probably my fav thing tbh.
We don’t want them slumming it do we. That wouldn’t be the done thing. I do hope one get a private jet for weekends. We couldn’t have them flying business class with the oiks.
Meanwhile we have non funded food banks and 1000s homeless.
The polititions and press love to bash the benifit system. How do they sleep when people are having benifit slashed and they are staying in 5 star hotels and flying first class, and eating like Kings? Quite well I imagine, under Egyptian cottan and goose feathers. Career polititions milk the state far worse than the people that actully help.
I’d have them on a 3* budget flying in economy. It wouldn’t hurt them to live in the real world.
One could spin the property as an investment for the uk gov. Saves on spending on 5 star suites for years on end. But still 12m! What’s wrong with a town house? I’m sure they could slum it for a million pound property, and a vauxhall astra.
They are great prices. I personally don’t care that much for 4k on my pc. I have 2 24″ 1080p screens, noting special at all. Iirc one was about £110 and a year later I got a matching one for about 80.
The main reason I don’t want to go 4k is I’d then need a new pc to power them. Also i go on the pc less and less these days. My laptop does most of what I need now.
For my entertainment I use my phone. I can’t recall when I last gsmmed on my pc.
It’s a nice bit of hardware, we had the ipad 2 which I never liked personally, but the hardware I couldn’t fault. It actually still works, just my draught last year locked us out of it, and cos I set up the apple ID about 6 years prior and never used it (it was my girls youtube machine), I could remeber the passwords, or even the email addy I used to set it up. Apple was no help, so it’s sat in a draw dorment.
The battery on that was amazing. At 6 years old it wousl still get 5h. Though I think they ove built the 2, as ive heard this is normal for that gen to just keep going, the 3 was a disaster for them, (lasted about 5 months before they re realised the next one), then the. Next was built to not quite match the styling power of the 2nd gen. As they need ipeople to keep buying an ipad evvey two or 3 years.
3 years is a good number for a tablet, for you not to be annoyed that it’s died, but also excited for the next one, as you’ll notice the jump in spec. So win win. Can’t have the tablet last 6 plus years, they need to turn a profit after all.
I was just stuck on the phone on hold etc.. For around 2 hours, and the ipad 2 air is a nice machine for Web browsing, and TV stuff, I must admit. Battery seems good too. Tho mine will be plugged in 24/7.
It’s ios I don’t like. I’m just being a moaner cos, well.. Cos I know android inside out, and ios I don’t. I’m sure an apple person fells the same going in the opposite direction.
Of course, – I keep relating your use of it to my personal one instead of open access.
I was ready for drop kicking the thing. ?
I know, but given this is public machine, it’s not having anthing senstive in it. And my last pass account is my keys to the my kingdom.
Also i dont think it would of mattered as the i had to put the password in 5 times (at least) just to get the the stage where I was in the app store. Then again the first time I used the app store, then touch ID started working. So going forward, my monkey print is all what’s needed for the app store and purchases.
One thing I do like alot about ios keyboard, that I’ve not come across before is the way you can swipe down to access secondary key functions quickly. I think that must be an apple patent thing. As I ain’t seen it before. I rather like it.
The ipad air 2 arrived today. It works great as a till, but OMG ios is crap. Glad it’s set and forget, as when setting it up I just wanted to huck it though the window.
The hardware is nice, but not a nice thing to use as a tablet. I won’t be rushing out to get a Peronal one. And glad android had an app, so I can do all till based set up and tweeks on android.
Once ios was sold as the simple solution, I find it far from it now. I must of entered my new apple Id 20 times. Which wouldn’t of beeb so bad if I didn’t use a secure password. So long and funky. That back fired!
I’m not sure when The air 2 is from (to lazy to look it up) but Thr touch Id is way slower than my p20pro, yes that’s newer, but I never notice the difference between my nexus 6p, pixel (first gen) or trh P20p.and I go back and too often. Touch Id I notice The lag.
It won’t matter on ay to day basis as a till, as its turned off, and set to never sleep. But using it as a tablet, I didn’t like. Though I never liked tablets, and god I’ve tried to.
So over all it does Teh job I want form it. Though I don’t like it as a computing device. And I much prefer the huawei tablet I got my girl last year (or more) ago. It was two Xmas ago.
Got all that covered ed. From next week I’m officially a member of the pub watch peeps.
In regards to oping hours, it’s all done via temporary events notices, (Tens), as we have defacto 24h drinking, though kerbed on 2006, you have a set oping time, you put on yourself, (due to certain giudlines) mine is 11am-12-30am, if I want to open later, I just have to notify the council. Its a simple online process. Costs (£12iirc may be 20) and you can open 24/7 for a period of 7 days. There is a limit to how many notices you can serve the council, however its that many it’s not an issue. The main rule is you need to have a gap of 24h between one ten ending and a new one starting.
There is two types a normal one, and a late one. They do thd saem thing, the lerm late in the second means your giving the council under 5 days notice. But it’s notice to the council, not an application to open late.
The ten covers live events, music, and hot food form the hours of 11pm-8am. For less than 500 people including your staff. Not an issue for my place.
It’s defo not a real ale pub, fosters John smiths, strongbow are the bread and butter of the place.
All easy to manage drinks. Which is good for me atm. Cleaning the lines now Lee weekly is mandated Lee.
Maybe one day real ales may make an aperance. But that is a whole new ball game to Learn. And I’m doing enough learning atm.
For the rest of this year the pub is basically in reweiwing mode. It won’t be untill the end of the winter. Next year I’ll be able to see what the pub actually does. I’m expecting to to not make a great deal through the winter and makes its money in the summer. Lucky I’m getting it at the start of the summer, and hopefully it will keep it self going in the winter.
So it’s going to be a constant rewiew and tweak. Decided I’m aiming at 40h in the week, and farm weekends out, and just be on call. Why work the busy shits? Cost the same to pay some one to do a sta night as it does a Monday. I’ll take the Monday, as then in the quiet spells I can do admin etc.
Yes, it will go up to about a tenner I expect. I may get the full name too. I have no plans for it atm, but you never know.
Not quite as cheap, 7.99. But grabbed it anyhow. I wouldn’t use it as an email addy as I’d be forever spelling it out. It not the easiest word for an English person to say or forvthem to understand, nevermind spell.
I’ll no doubt put some type of landing page, and event info on it, not that anyone will ever visit it. Fb is where folk go now. As I don’t do do FB I’ll get my wife on that side of things.
I thought I updated this thread earlier. I settled in an tablet based epos solution. And ordered a 16gb WiFi (4g) ipad air 2 earlier. 16gb will be enough ad it will be a till only. And a back up for the cctv. So two apps only
I’m gonna buy a second when I have some actual cash for the cctv, and it can act as a backup for the till.
I was gonna get a mini for the cctv. But the bigger air is a better choice be ouse of its back up function. If the one in thd till goes down, a simple swap and login to the till app sorts it out.
I do prefer the mini size for normal tablet use. The 10″ I find unwieldy. But the till box mount comes with a 10″ mount. Also give better real estat for my product icons.
Bought it about 3pm, and just got an email from royal mail saying it will be here before noon tomorrow. The rest of the system the day after (not from ebay) .
Ill spend the rest of the week nights programing it. Though I can do it on my android phone, so I’ll probably do it in that, then open the app in the ipad. And hope it all syncs. It should.
