I like a wired solution, on the longe TV had a wirele# set up, that was a small logitech of some sort.

I drill wholes in my desk, on centre just north of the keyboards resting place, and one just north of the mouse mat. Just wider than a USB plug. May be a bit drastic, but it’s makes of an neat cable solution.

I Staple a zip tie to the underside and lock out the wire length. Usually the USB is just a short amout.enith for me to get the board stood up against the screen. And the mouse, has enough room to get way beyond the perimeter of the mouse mat.

Then I have all the wires neatley velcro’d together and hot glued to the underside  the desk.

In the name of tidyness also have I small 4 port usb 3 hub super glues flush with the edge of the desk for easy access an also in the name of laziness, I have a on/off button  glued to the underside of the desk next to the USB 3 hub. Though since win 10 I don’t think I ever turn the pc off, it just goes to sleep and turns on immediately.

That’s right. The last phone I had it mot work was htc one x. The nexus 6p asked it may have issue but it never, when checked.

So if you try the app, my advise is do a test call. In the 6 years a or so I’ve used it, I’ve only had one phone it not work on. One of the said I kept the one X only for about 3 months. The phone had many issues though.

Another great app that is on my install list is ARC recording. It simply records your call, you can set it to manual record, which I do. It puts a widget up on screen and you just hit go and it re ords tour call. You can set to to auto upload to many places including your own ftp server.

I record all business related calls, half for protection and half so I remeber what’s been said.

Also record all service calls, soley for protection.

Remeber to inform the other party your recording. If your calling a call center type place, when they give you the “then you can all maybe recorded……..” I always answer to Yeh, me too. As I find if your phoning a business to complain, they hand up on you if you outright tell them, so sneeking it in I find works best.

If it says a review order msg before you get through, I find questions them about it at first, they will say some line of “training etc” then you reply with the same, “Yeh, me too”.

I bought a £10 MS keyboard to tide me over as I was si k of trying, expensive for me, £30 and £40 ones and not getting on with them.

So I for the cheap ms on, to die me over till if found a good mechanical one, price wasn’t an issue.

However the MS one is brilliant, miles for a mechanical one, but imo it suits me.

Bob has the same cheapo one. I bet he can tell you the model.

              Edit – Microsoft 600 £12.

Sadly android has had over 80% marketshare since about 2014.  Which is never a good thing.

Yeah, I got my last keys from play-asia.com and not had any problems. I think MS’s business model has changed, they want more people using the OS and using their online store for subscriptions and upgrades.

Yes it was clear with 8 (light, forgot its name) they wanted to get the masses into a sanitised marketplace. They get a nice 20 cut and the user a safe experience. I think it would of been good for all IF they would of gone about it right.

Gave 8light away as Home for free, and charged £100 for the pro big boy windows, or what was win 8, with the option to turn metro off,or Dail it back.

That I think would of worked. Still let “Home”  run programs, in a vm environment, like vista had with xp, that would of been enough for people to install office 2003, and creative cloud  that’s all normal people, it would of been enough to of a bone to stop large out cry, but give enough “friction” to move to 365, go en enough incentive.

By that point, you would of had the masses with their noise in the door, which would of brought 3rd parties running, and if ms curated it like Apple, it would of worked. By 10 (or 9) the masses would of been converted to metro shopping.

And the geeks, which are probably 0.5‰ of windows users, would of been happy using win 10 as we know it.

I recall thinking this at the time, as I know it was rumours that the light version is what Ms actually wanted to run with after 8.

Back to ms turning a blind eye to the cheap codes, they just want xp to GTFO of here. It’s just messing up the Internet, and a kid ripping of xp, isn’t going to pay £100+ for a ligit, version of Windows, he is going to rip off a version of 10, but but for £10, he may just buy it. It’s probably £6 in ms pocket they wouldn’t of got. Plus it gets xp off the net,and hopefully a new customer for metro shopping.

I use the BT sports app, that’s it. What do you guys use? I don’t usually do recreation out side of gaming, not even browsing on my pc’s, but Windows is my only in to BT sports I’m aware of, and Android. But I’d rather watch the footy on a large screen.

LTT(youtube)  has the most insane server set ups, and he is about to breach his 80TB server with a petaflop server spread over 2 main clusters of 50 x 10TB drives and I think he said 1 other “small” 60TB think he said, also an 50GB ssd cashe.

He uses 3 main services to achieve what he wants, I think I recalled he uses cent os as a back os, then two others I can’t recall.

Thought I’d let you know as it’s the most insane server I’ve heard of, and I bet the most insane one you have seen in a small business.

He had out grown his other one, in under 12months, and is moving from 4k archive to 8k so needs the space.

His current workfolw server (not his archive one) set up is mad, lots of redundancy, and set up so multi users iirc 4 at a time gan max out 10Gbit, they use it for work  real time multi person editing. (I don’t know) I just know it’s stuffed with 500GB ssd’s.

It’s nice when you have millions of YouTube followers, and oems are falling over them seven to give you $60k (cad) worth of hdd.

I’m sure you have heard of LinusTechTips on the you tube.

I recall him attempting to water cool his old office of one system, he ran copper around the office, and plumbed all his pc’s (cpu and gpus) in to it, to see if it would lower the ambient working temp in the room. Took about 3 months and barely worked.

I spent the first ten mins he was saying turn pc on, log in, open this, type that click here, type this…. I then he said, right what do you see. And I replied oh you wanted me to do that, I was writing it down. So we went thought it again, with me apologising for the “many kids interruptions” “the door knocking “, and my super slow typing.

It was quite fun. He got very annoyed when I told him I knew exactly what he was up to..

Bob I think we have had this conversation before, when I joined up, fit as a fiddle, or thought it was, (8 months later I was), but still on a bar I could do pull ups alot of them, but on the old wooden beam, I struggled to do ten. Such a subtle change in the hand grip made such a big, negative, diffence.

All the way through phase one, gym work and ropes, before theh let you on the bottom field and assault courses, I was in the “ramedial” group because of my poor form. But as I was fine with all the cardiovascular, and especially rope work, which is mainly what your aiming to achieve,i was fine. But always struggled with the beam.

To pass out of phase one, (first 5weeks) you had to be capable on the ropes, be able to hold on with feet and knees, and adopt a fireing position, get up and down about 20″ so many times in a give amount of time, and the grand finale, hand upside down on the rope about 2/3s up the rope and hold you arms out, like an upside down the cross. Alot of brushed knees and sore insteps later, it all clicks.

You put all that effort in, just to advance to a worse torture lol.

I say I was fitter at the end, i don’t think that is entirely true, I may of been “fitter”, but that training breaks bodies, I don’t know any Marine that survived with out long term issues, usually with lover back, (like me), knees or shins.

It’s why most burn out within 8 years. If you say past 8 your in for life.

Pussers to the core,as they say. I wonder if Pussers (it probably is t spelt like that) still does the majority of military kit. You must remember the Pussers arrow marking on all your kit?

Edit – and I just found out you pongos called it a “crows feet” mark. And learn it was originally the supplier of prison uniforms. Remember the old ones with the big crows foot on. Then they got the military contracts. Pussers arrow is a navy term, which comes from Pussers rum.

Find out somthing new everyday. Most on her want care lol but interests me.

I seen the mentioned plugs, but them racks are heavy, I personally wouldnt trust my £x hundred pounds kit to plaster board fixings.

Especially when you could whip the bottom off and fill with wood.

Actually, I’d drill a whole in the bottom, and one on the inside of the top of the leg,  and fill with expanding foam. Once dry trim of the spillage flush out the holes. Then I’d trust a plasterboard plug.

May be worth bound a £100 scrapper every third year, insuring it for 3 months then scrapping it. You ll get your £100, it will just cost you the 3monts Inc (it may be 6 months you need to keep the ncd going). But defo worth a look, as insurance is a bit steep without them.

Probably cost you a total of £100 by the time you scrap the car, every third year. Probably a worth while gamble

This just came up in the thread discussing spam calls so I thought I’d mention it here, as it’s a must have application if you get un solicited calls. If you have a cyanogen os phone or are running CM, you already have it baked in.

True caller it like a spam filter for calls. There is a whole ecosystem you can get into, but I don’t bother, I just stick with the basics.

With my number being somewhere between 15 and 20 years old now, I think it’s on every list going so this app blocks at least ten calls a day for me.

Edit- I just noticed it has over 4.5million downloads and a 4.5 star rating. So its not just me thst likes it. That’s some dam good feedback.

I wasn’t thinking mobile would protect you, I was just meandering as usual.

My mobile must get 10ppi, sand soliciting calls a day every day. And with out true caller I’d me an angry pigeon.

It a crowd fueled spam filter from calls, and texts its very good. If you owned a 1+1 or a wileyfox it’s built in, as it’s part of cyanogen. Or was.

That’s how I got introduced to it, I think it was CM11 it was rolled into the os,  I’m sure I had it on my M8, and tbh with it being integrated into CM that was the best way to experiance it. But it’s also avalible as an app for any Android (maybe ios) phone.

Never heard of the table before. It’s amazing the most random things that have such a community behind them.

Just think of a niche, and there is a community dedicated to it somewhere on the web. This is a prime example of why  forums will never die, no matter how good and large  the like of Facebook gets. Forums serve dedicated communities better.

Some cools stuff around that table if you click some links. Apparently idea made a change on the later models, and only the top 3″ are solid plastic, so if you want Marple racks you have to trim the bottom of the leg off and insert a piece of wood in. Also they do a double one called the coffee table Lack, that is just long enough to put to sets in,  for the ultimate geek lounge set up. I’d image in it would work well as a hearer in the winter months

Joking aside, some clever cheapo, my favourite kind, sussed this out, and I love ikea ran with it. It seems to have a cult following.

Random stuff I look at when the misses is asleep. Suppose it’s better than porn! But pretty sad when my birthday falls on a Friday night and I’m sat in looking at plastic chairs.

There was a ZTE one for £45, but it has android 4.4 on it, so defeats the point of getting it. I was expecting a few of them listed for about £20.

That’s what I meant by the phone space was finished. I don’t think even 18 months would of changed anything. Ms and Nokia found that out the expensive way. And ms owned the space with phone phone and the xda line. But it’s hard to steer an iceberg. Especially when Balmer though ios a toy, which it was when he said it, but hay history can make you look a fool.

Win phone was decent by 8, and worked well on cheap and very low spec devices, FF and Windows would of had to come in 2009/10 before android took off, android was cemented in as number 2 os in 2011 with the sgs3. To of had a chance you needed to be in before 2010.

However then html5 web apps was in very early development, so that wouldn’t of been possible to get a foothold.  Didn’t Web os rely on html5, (in its name so I’m supposing it was)  that was a cool os with no platform, and no parent company to keep chucking cash at it untill it worked.

Was FF based on web OS? or is that the Samsung TV OS that is Web OS based?  They may both be.

If only there was a way to find out ?

Edit- I just went on ebay to buy a FF phone. £90 I think not.

I think it was their hail mary attempt. The phone space was finished before they even launched the FF phone. The TV market is still open for an out the box solution. I’ve tried a few smart tvs and all have been bad.

Maybe this was good on the TV, but oems just are not ready to let go of their in house crap ui’s
