I’m geek, I don’t need half the stuff I buy. Does anyone need a £700 phone? A £2400 mac book (once was) pro, or even a £1000 win laptop? not really. Do I need my lights to be wifi controlled? Of course I do, why wouldn’t I?

On a serious no, we do not nt need wifi controlled valve thermostat, we don’t really need central heating, we evolved for about a 50k years (or 4k if you subscribe to the bible) with out it. I have this argument with the he wife often. If we wouldn’t of had the last child, it’s doubtful we would of had central heating g installed. We was fine for the first 7 years with out it. Just put on an extra layer in the winter.

But i did say I was just Spit balling ideas. Letting him know what is out there. I’d say a wireless control unit is a must. It may an less wiring channels in the walles on installation, and it can be moved if you spend more time in the kitchen, loumge or upstairs. So for the extra £20 of the Salus one I have pays for it’s lf and five fold once you take labour to route the wire, and he cost of cable, which will be anywhere from £10 to £30 depending on where you want it, plus the time and effort he will need to pit the he wall right and decorate it. Thou I’d imagine the decoration will be needed anyhow. But a £30 Salus I linked to would be the bare minimum I’d expect.

Sounds like a plane. Get your self a nest thermostat or one of the salus wireless jobbies, they learn from your habits and you can adjust them on the fly. I have an old Salus wireless one, would like a newer more clever but they are a little steep. If I was getting the heating fitted I’d defo go for one. Well I did at the time and got one of the best avalible, but 8 years is along time.

Alot of companies do the the smart thermostat now, so look around. Honeywell, hive, nest, Salus plus many more. All seem to be in the £100to 200 bracket.

Mine is around £30 now. Which I think is good value. It’s really simple to use, basically program the times you want to to come on, but add exceptions if the tempts above a set value it won’t come on. It’s wireless, so you can move the actual control unit around with you, untill you find the best fit for you.

You may also be intrested I’m smart valves for each rad, that they are quite expensive, I think Yi’s Xiomai ones are about £60 each, normal vales are around a tenner. Bit then you can set values for each room, so you can heat just the rooms you need, at the given set values. The £60 is probly a good investment, if a costly one. On your case £540 minus £90 (cost of standard ones that have been costed in). Maybe easier to stomach if you take BG quotes as the yard stick, but take the 3.8k offer up, boosting it to 4.4k.

I’m just chucking ideas about. I’m sure you have a referb list that far outstrips your purse at this point. We have had our house almost 15 years and its still not done, sadly they never are as long as you have a women!

Update these look good, they have Ifttt integration so you could set Google assistant or amazon elexa up to operate them, ie “turn lounge rad up to 18 degrees” or “turn all rads to winter mode” that sound quite cool.

Loft insulation is cheap and you can never have enouth. You can or could, get gov grants to cover the cost, or prtial cost, for both cavity and loft insulation. Though this may be on a county basis.

Sadly my house being over 100 has no cavities, and with lost insolation being so cheap, I never bother looking into the grant in my area.

About every second or third year since I’ve lived here, I’ve added to the loft, Xmas gone being the last, and I think 6th layer. I boarded over it, or as usual, 2/3s done. Need to get back up there and lay the final 3rd.

Ironically for this thread, it’s the old header tank that stopped me, I ran out of time on the run up to Xmas, I literally worked upto Xmas eve evening. And had to put all the stuff, I had in the lounge back in the loft. As usual I never got started again once the festivities was over.

Looks like a £20 set up fee. No way they would charge £150, it would put way to many people off.

I recall moving from sky plus to sky HD, and they wanted to charge £30 in them days. I argued with the sales person, saying I had all the lines in place, she said on, on record, that the sky plus cables needed swapping, I knew they didn’t. So when the guy came, took two seconds to ‘install’ it. I wrote to sky, with a written account of my conversion and they credited my account with the £30 a few months later.

If she would never of said that about my wires not being compatible and needed a swap, I’d of not had a leg to stand on, as he did come and ‘insall’ my box. So I was lucky, bit I was pressing the girl in the phone what justifies the £30 when I had already paid £30 for sky installation, then £30 to upgrade from sky to sky+ (as you need an extra line per room), so she then said I need ‘high definition’ wires, mine was the old ‘low def’ wires. Which made me chuckle inside.

I can’t wait to see T2. Not enough to go the filks, so I’ll wait till it’s on a streaming server ice near me.

Also i want to see the star wars one that I think is on the fliks now. Again not enough to actually go out my way. I really liked the last one, except for one thing, the bigger Lukes return up so much, and he had a single line! Really bothered me.

Has grease been remade? I have never made it througb the original one!

The last picture I went to see, for me and not a Disney pixar, that was What Pets do(or similar title), was star was the clone wars, the last of the 3 that came out in the nasties. The older I got, the more I hate the cinema experiance. Why is it always so loud? I must be old before my time, but I’d rather watch on my couch with the remote at hand, on my old (over 10 yo) 5.1 surround sound. Preferably a bluray, but tbh a stream at a less bit rate is also more preferable that the cinema, with overpriced food, low quality screen, too loud sound and usually talking viewers.

God I’m older than my years.

Unless it’s a big house, 3.5k seems about right. 8 years ago I payed a local plummer (man from our pub) 2.2k to do our place. 4bed place

If you know the man well who recomended you the local guy, I’d go with that ad he is the only one that has come as a recommendation.

Also even if BG was even remotely close to what it should cost, I’d stay clear of them,if heard no end of bad stories.

Also so the local guy will know loads of local plasters, sparks etc, so he will be a good source of knowledge. For some reason plasters all like a drink, and will fit jobs in for cheap before opening times.

Lol 8.5k taking the pee. Even if the guy that is local, isn’t a tidy, you have 5k change, to tidy up and issues that may arise. Which I bet non. Plumbing isn’t hard, you can do it or you can’t. The only diffence will be time, the local age and a mate, will take 3 to 4 days, BG will throw a few people at it and take 2 days.

Regarding boilers, you don’t always need the biggest boiler, you need to work out how many rads of what size, and that will give you the size of boiler you will need. Though I’d tell whoever, that you may wish to add one or two in the future, just to have a bit of overhead. Still even with the possible additions factored in you may not need the largest.

You could lwork out which boiler size you will need by multiplying 1.5kw by the number of rads, will give you a ballpark figure.

Tbh I don’t really know my kid brother, it’s a long story but basically I moved away not long I came out of service, I spent two years give or take, back home and would visit, but I moved away, done the uni thing and never returned.

I visit once a year out of formality, but I don’t really know him or my mother properly now, seen them about 10 times in 15 years. I have my own family and not a fan of looking back, as Ive mentioned before. Like death, once their gone their gone, not worth worrying about.

Regarding the women thing, yes strange indeed. I somthing I forget for years at a time, the post before brought it back. Tbh I recall seeing her in the cloakroom, but the rest I only know from it being told back to me as an adult.

Another strange occurrence at home today, my youngest son was brought home from school at 15:00h by a teacher, he has apparently pee’d off the school lunitic and was escorted home for his safty. The school said it was nothing he did, but I know his smart gob.

This kid is apparently the school bully and is a bit on the psychotic side, plus a year older. he has been suspended for the rest of the week, next week is half term! So new worries for the wife for the next 2 weeks. Great!

The kid doesn’t have a father, so one can’t go and “have a quiet word” . However the school said he is known to the police and they have to report his behaviour to them. So best I can’t go round.

So God know who or what my lad had landed himself in. Just Maybe it may be a lesson in holding his tongue my kid might learn. Knowing him though, I doubt it.

One to watch one thinks. Never a quite hour in my place.

This is no word of a lie, at about age 5-7 (infant school age) I was taken from our School cloak room, I only remember fragments. The lady took me out of the clock room at I assume 9am, and we walked the streets and she dropped me off at my ants house.

It turned out the women, long dark hair is all I can remember, had not lost her son that was my age, and blond hair, and she was having a breakdown.

She didn’t do anything bad to be me, we went the shop, or so my mum said, no one knew I was missing, until I arrived at my ants, and she called my mum followed by the school.

The lady, as she was known in the area, nothing happens to here, no one made a fuss because of her situation.

I know it upset my mum for a while, not that I was aware at the time, but we have spoke about it over the years. I don’t know what happened to the women I don’t recall ever seeing her again

What worried my mum was the what if! I don’t recall being treated by her diffently after the fact, but when I was 16 (joined the marines), she decided then was a good time to get me a brother! (mental session I told her at the time), however she was very protective over him, going as far as getting a job as a dinner lady, somthing she did when I was in infant/Jr school, blaming the time I was taken.

He grew up spoilt. But I think I was too, but I put it down to being an only child.

Given I’d moved out before his birth, my mum manages to have two only children. Quite an achievement. A stupid one, but an achievement non the less.

Given it started working, then stopped, I’d just leave it be for a few days Lee. It will likely fix itself.

Bandwidth is so abundant now, unless your in the top 5 or 10% of abusers your not going to be throttled on an unlimited connection.

I’m with Talk Talk and hover around 1000GB (1TB) per month and never been throttled. I’d imagine Virgin unlimited would be similar. But even at a quarter of the cap, your unlikely to get near 250GB, given your not a family of 7 and (big and) have access to television, somthing we don’t have.

BL mentioned being ‘throttled’ daily at one point, this was not throttling because of his over use but because Virgin had over subscribed in his area. They call that “traffic shaping” , basically throttleing all for the communal good. Ie cos they are greedy.

So i wouldn’t worry. Also when streaming you will download the video to Cache within the 1st quater of the film, or most services do. You can test this by turning your Internet off halfway through the movie, I found this out by accident, but I’ve found it rings true with most serices. Not sure about sky though.

Ether way the film size is going to be about the same, if you measure apples to apples, through I find you can get the same films in different sizes, if your willing to a drop in resolution. I personally always opt for 720p when given the choice, as it’s about half that of a full HD.

a 4k film will be in the region of 15 to 25GB in size, 720p about 700Mb-GB, 1080 about 1.5GB to 2.5Gb bit rate and video lenght depending.

If you have been convicted, surly it puts the like off going to work with kids in the future.

Yes it’s a crying shame that the origanal had whateverdone to them, but at least the scheme, will stop it happening to the next child.

As someone mentioned above, usually, like high percentages, the perpetrator is usually known, more so, related to the victim.
