My BiL spent the first 5 years of his raf career converting US digital Chinooks back to analogue, as the Mod wouldn’t pay the licence fee for the OS, thinking they old write their own much cheaper.

After taking years and years they gave up and ripped out all the good stuff, and converted them back to the 70s. At a cost of many times the original cost.

If you recall back about 10 years ago these mothballed helos made the news, as we was very short at the time, but sat on a grounded ghost Fleet.

It’s the same with everything they do. Ships planes, 4×4, body armour. The SA80 rifle took 20 to get right.

It has its first outing in the Faulklands, come mid 90s when I had one it was a running (quite terrifying) joke. It was extreme acreate, but would jam all the time. I think today they are on revision 4or 5,and it now works! Or so we are lead to belive.

My towel rail sucks, it gets hot to touch, as hot as my others do, bit the heat it gives off just doesn’t heat the bathroom well.

Llickilly a bathroom doesn’t really need heating in, given the bath or shower is a huge heater, and heats the room sufficiently, so when I you finish the room is warm.

There is an argument I’m the Radiator world, one Side says you should put your rads under Windows, so around the exterior or your home, the other side say you should try and mount the rads in the centre of your house, if you have a core solid wall the better.

I opted for option 2, and have 5 of out 9 rads, all big double ones in fact, on the one wall the center main wall.

When the heating is on they heat the wall up, so it acts in dissipating heat throughout the house and stays warmer longer.

It defo heats the wall up, but I’m not sure how much it adds to the overall effect. however, having the rads on one wall defo kept the cost of the copper down a fair bit when installed.

We don’t have a single rad on an exterior wall. But I’d defo have foil or some foil back insulation behind them if I did.

Also my biggest tip is, don’t get a fancy towel rail rad, just get a small rad and put a normal towel rail above it.

The towel rail rads are rubbish, they give off hardly any heat. just get a proper rad that fits the space. They don’t look as good, but the rails are usless. Im sure most here will agree.

I don’t think they back up automatically, If they uses Google photos to view the pics, when they first launched the app it would of, by default, set to back up.

However, I’ve not had a Hudl 1,but I reset my Hudl 2 last week, and the only app I have on my Hudl 2 is photos. Now I don’t know if I installed that or not, I can’t remember, but there is no other photo storage app on the device. Expect for, s rolling right in the default camera app, and that is no way to see photos.

So I expect, I didn’t install Google photos and thst it was the default app on the device. Trouble with that thought is I think the Hudl 2 pre dates Gphotos, but the last os update doesn’t.

Probably teaching you to suck eggs here, but bob get their Gmail log in, log on to Gmail the go to https://photos.google.com and there is a good chance all their pics will all be there. If not ask what app they used to ‘view’ their photos, as all the mainstream photo apps set up auto upload as default.

Update- after reading the link below, it looks like the Hudl 1 just had the AOSP gallery. So the pics are likely gone. If they haven downloaded a 3rd party app.

on the plus side the pics the Hudl takes are terrible, so they arnt going to of lost much.

What you running their Richard a sauna? Our only comes on if the house dropped below 14. I’d melt in your gaff.

But we are all warm blooded, except the wife, it’s rare we close the upstairs window. Ours is a big fire escape window, so has been closed a few times this winter, but I know the kids haven shut theirs this winter.

House is currently 17 with no heating on. The the bedrooms will be a bit cooler.

They are also releasing 3 android devices soom, nokia 3 5 and 7, can’t really what is what, but tee is going to be a 720p sd 425 with2gb of ram for £150, I will be getting it at some point.

My eldest girl just broke her 1+1 yesterday, leaked drink in bag. It’s currently in a bag of rice on the radiator. But I doubt it will survive. I’ll checker one of the spares (not my 6p) and hopefully get that Nokia if it isn’t to for off

£350 is a good price, given its company. But if honest I’d go 1+3 or 3t, probably just the 3t if I was after a phone today. Mainly as I don’t have one and like to vary the oems I buy from. Only really samsung that’s on my banned list, and of course the iPhone.

Still I think the best thing G5 has the best shape of the 2015 phones, I love the top glass that falls away, looks really sleek, and differnt. The pixel is very boring in looks. Very much like the P9 it follows the iPhone design closely. It’s not a bad thing, but boaring.

I think with 8+ duel booting of a partitioned drive is just asking for trouble, even if it works toady, tomorrows win update could bork it up.

If I was to dual boot I’d do it off two seperate drives.

You Amy be able to fit a second hdd into the laptop if you remove the dvd drive. That’s if it had one, they are mainly redundant today. I’ve not had a laptop with a Dvd drive since 2007 the Dell xps1330, since then no optical drives present. My pc’s don’t have dvd drives in either.

If, and a big if, I heed one, I have a Samsung USB dvd drive that cost me a tenner ten years ago, in my service kit, that I use. It’s been over a year since I last used it, may be two.

How much are they now, iirc they was about £550-600 at launch, the P9 the wife opted for wad £499 so I didn’t argue when she went for it. It is truly a great phone. If there wasn’t the 6P I’d have it up there for phone of 2015. It impresses me no end. It doesn’t now feel a tad slow next to the pixel. Bit you’d never think it slow if you hadn’t touched a pixel.

The G5 has been a flop for LG, they are ditching the concept for the G6. A shame, but Motos modalular shown us the right way to go about it, if we need to go about it at all.

I actually really like the G5s look, it doesn’t feel a bit flimsy, and when you take the bottom off very flimsy. I still wanted the wife to get one. She went her own way, and got the P9, that wasn’t even on my radar, but it’s a great device. The ui is a little wonky, like the LG but fine, and Hauwai has the best camera app I’ve ever seen, would love it on my phone. It’s that good, it’s simple to use, but give you all the advanced features you could ever need is a great way

I cut everyone loose with the more from 7 to 8, I never moved so used it as an excuse to not get involved with people’s issues.

There is no excuse for it today, almost all photo apps back up buy default, so these people are actively saying no on set up. Or the majority are.

The one that amazing me still happens is the posts ‘I’ve lost my phone, can you all please send me your numbers”. 1. Even before 2008 I written down a back up! But since 2008, you sync then to google contacts as standard on android, and I’m sure ios does similar. Now this you actively have to turn off!

                                Idiots I tell you.

Well things have now sorted them selves out. The mother had enough of him and packed him off to his dad’s In Manchester, typical mancs lol.

My lad and this guy had no previous, he just said somthing to my lad and his mates, and my lad is on the lower end of the autism scale. It’s not offical, but we take thought it for years. We was called in to school a few months back and asked had we had him tested, we said no so they asked could they proceed. So we will se what comes over it.

Anyway my lad cant hold his tongue, he takes everything very literal, the lad called them a bunch of F-ing bustard’s, and my lad blerted out, but I have a dad. Which given the lad doesn’t live with his, must of hit a nerve.

So for now at least the kid has gone. The stew that broke the camels back it seems.

He is a year older than my lad, but my lad does maths with his year, good with numbers, but very dyslexic, and doesn’t have a filter between this brain and mouth. It’s a shame as the most common phase the lad know is “shut up George” doent matter if it’s at home, his grandparents or at school. 5 mins in a room with him and you’ll say it.

Sadly his younger sister, seems to be following in his footsteps this the litteral stuff! Though she is verygood at English, and ok(ish) with numbers, the total opppersite of him. Well not total, as her maths is average for her age, but excellent at reading and writing.

The boy takes after me, not sure who the girl takes after! May have to raise thst at the next family meeting ?

When I go home to see old school friend, another 3 times a year, I always go my best friends first, he still live with his mum, in the same house opposite my first family home until I was 16 we moved out of it about 3 weeks before I joined up.

I still had a key, and on leave I’d go out with my mates and sleep in the old house for about 18monts. Anyway still mow 25 and years on, I still see the house and the nostalgia comes back. Funny we planted a tree in the front garden, thst went about 10 years ago, which made me sad for a second, as does the unkept grass everytime I go.

Its really strange for me, as I’m not sentimental or nostalgic, I’ve may of mentioned before my wife says I have a heart of stone. Party ad I didn’t cry at my dad’s funeral, but I never liked him much, being older now, and approaching his death age, makes me think I was a bit harsh, but all his own doing.

Also i never shed tears over my grandparents, and I loved them. But I think it’s a military thing, I thrill think they break you a bit inside, or I’ve just got one hell of a stiff upper lip. Or a heart of stone.

Cool side srort- I’m currently growing a full scale beard just to annoy the wife. Started on NYD and its coming on a treat. I’ve done 6 months before, but never kept it tidy. I’m doing it right this time. I like it, she hates it. Though I’ve never been clean shaven since I left the marines, I have beard clippers and usually give it a number zero ever few days but now Im going all out cave man.

You’ll need to dig around, and set then all to either, only see by friends, or turn to private. It’s quite granular, but they do like to bury the privacy settings as its better for them if your broadcasting everything.

BL taking about when i said the Q is ten years too late. Take a look at this box, it’s a hdmi switcher that dives into each conected box, wether it be Roku, Apple TV, Android TV, fire TV, cable tv(its American demo) play station, just pulls the apps out, and puts its own unified ui that is fully voice capabe, via an echo, Google voice, or its own remote, also not only van you navigate with the included remote you can also just pic up any remote, and it seamless switches it.

I can’t do this thing justice, just watch it. It’s 15mins long, and the frost run of 5000 boxes is June, and will be $400, he said they will be betas and then the second run will be cheaper.

It think it’s worth the 400 usd tbh. This will be great.

Google photos is excellent. I hated the demise of picasa, especially when the first incarnation of photos was terrible, and was tide to google plus with an anchor. But now it’s almost perfect, and the search is great. I have pictures dating back to 06, I backed picasa early.

Also i upload to Flickr, that to is excellent, but isn’t as simple as GPohotos. But great non the less. I was uploading their before picasa, by about a year. You just need to watch whenever you create a new album you change it from ‘public’, to ‘private’. ‘public’ is the default.

I use one drive and mega, as a photo dump. I have 365 but really don’t like it. I use it for spreadsheets, but will always just google docs over office, it’s just better imo, and Google drive is great. You can duplicate all your photos fron GPojotos to Drive if you wish, I don’t, but it’s there if you want.

Yea Dave, them wifi TVRs are just a geeks nicity. The prices are a bit steep atm, but alot of company’s are entering the space, so give it a year or two, and if I can get 9 and for around £200 I recon I’d have to get them.

My lights are currently being made ifttt compatable, well some of then. As well as being wifi capable, they need to operate as normal, so I’m going to use a ‘two way switch’ set up so it’s kid and visitor friendly. Probably with a pie zero or the small arduino (disk thing, easier for me to program) maybe as the second swith, which can in the light fitting or just a above it.

I can use the live lighting ring to power them. Given I’m now fully LEDs the ring has literally tons of spare capacity. Plans are in my head atm. Need to make a proof of concept with a desk light first, before I get carried away
