FiL gets his small bills and a fixed monthly they Payment back. I’m not sure how he fiddled his deal. But his credits form the electric more than covers his gas.

I know he was in quite early, when the gov was more generous with there bribes. Worked well for him, as he is semi retired and is in alot through the days. Also he is sazzy about when he does high powered things like shower and use the dryer.

He has been talking lately of running batteries at night, and using a separate  system for it like his caravan. Sort of a life support circuit. The man is obsessed with it.

His aims is to be as near self sufficient as he can be by retirement. Which he has been in since Ive known him lol.

In theory they should be great, but I’m jet to pull the trigger. I’ve been dodging a water meter for 15 years. Our water feeds both houses and each time a new neighbour moves in (on 4th, first 3 was single) they ask use would we like to go on one.

With 7 of us, I think not.

I just (8pm) installed a gameboy emulator on my Pixel, and have spent far to long playing, Mario, wario, bugs, zelda (for too long) and tetris.

It worked flawlessly, has simple saves, and was so nostalgic. Wasted alot of hours.

Did it come with Windows originally? If so stick another hdd in it and install Windows, that way you can test the gpu. Will ony take ten mins, no need to go through all the updates etc.

Have a look a 3mobile or Giff Gaff. I really like Giff Gaff, they have the best online site, and they make migrating numbers to other sims so easy. Great for people that lose phones and sims often

There prices and bundles are great to. I have no idea of tescos set up, but the way tesco is going I’d have little faith that they will be around in a year or two. They may be, but the faith is low.

Re Internet Isp TalkTalk is great cheap and unlimited. Ive been with them about 7 years and they have given me no reason to move. And it keeps BT out my life.

Tbh the more I’m reading about it, the more I’m loosing intrest in it. Which is sad as I’ve been looking forward to it, if not full sold.

And I’m a sicker for being the first in line for crap I don’t need. The only reason I wasn’t in the que is the last decent niniy was the Cube. The fact this is handled made be but the wii and wii u to the back of my mind, but I just wasn’t excited enough to pull the trigger early.

Now You few non fan boy reviews are coming out, the more Im happy with my decision.

Hopefully some decent games come along, we know a de entire Mario and M Kart will be along.

The worst thing I’ve heard so far is Zeldas docked fps is dropping  to low 20s, not a great start.

Richard, that is exactly the issue I had with my Laguna, iirc and you was getting limited power (limp mode). After hours of fault finding it was a warn waits with an intermittent fault. The bit of wire with the attached sensor (just to be safe) cost me £5 from the scrap yard, and 10 mins for my man to solder it in.

My guy wouldn’t take money for all his fault finding work, and embarrassingly to me the cost was about £20. Such a nice bloke, he refused any extra cash.

Jason I was just reading that the dock is scratching many users Switch displays, given they are plastic, which is a good call imo but a set back is easily scratchable.

Untill you can get tempered glass protector, people are putting the self adhesive felt pads on the inside lip of the dock to protect the screen.

Personally I’d not scratch it, but I’d not be along in using it and kids are Heavy handed at the best of times. So just a thought.

Something Ive not seen mentioned is you will be able to polish and scratches out as the plastic screen is very, very thick, so a few light scratches wouldn’t be the end of the world. But polishing it would leave a micro hollow that would probably stop any glass protector fitting properly.

This is so strange I was in a premier inn last week in Manchester and in the e ending the tv that has the local traffic info on has crashed. And has an xp error box.

I thought of the mag when I seen it.

The most annoying  part is the hotel was far younger than xp, was probably built after 7.

@tippon, I didn’t now them setting, was still kicking about. Once they was very in your face, in a pop up box everyone you wanted to save a contact, probably bas they expected people still to be coming from feature phones and/or in the habit of saving to sim. But they stopped that about 7 years ago.

I don’t think I’ve had to venture into the contacted options since my G1 days, when your contacts are with in Gmail, it just all works.

Glad you got it sorted Richard.

Last week my FiL who now has a motorola razor, I don’t know if it’s knew or 10 years old bit it’s in mint condition, anyway he asked me could I turn predict off. I failed, and what was worse, in between me tweaking a setting, Id have to have him wrote a sentence on it as I just couldn’t do it. It felt so foreign, it’s amazing how you can just forget. It may of course be even ten years since I used a keyboard like that, but I’d been using then for over ten years prior. But my mind just blanked fingers froze, and mouth said “err…. Can you type something and see if it’s fixed”

What I use to do in the old pre smart phone days is give my phone to my wife and let her copy all the numbers from one device to another. Luckily after the first jump to a smart phone in 2008, my contacts have just followed me around.

By for the splat way is to just sit at your PC and type them in to Gmail one by one. Take the opportunity to clean your contact lists up, and put everyone addresses etc in there neatly with Email info etc.

Hope your neck is hexes out clear first of all.

Regarding your contacts no now keeps them on sims, I don’t actually thing new Micro sims have the ability. They may but then I have my doubts that android reads sims for numbers anymore. I remember a time when the android asked you if you want to save a contact to sim or to your actual contacts. Bit I don’t recall seeing that for a long long time.

Anyhow, you shouldn’t save contacts to sims, it’s the worst place for them. You could but them all in the Gmail contacts  account that you used to sign in to your new phone.

And by far the easiest way to do that is to sit at your pc/laptop, and input them on a real keyboard. As quick as you input them onto the pc they will simply appear on the phone. Much faster than doing it manually on the phone.

If I recall Motorola has an app on the phone for importing contacts, SMS and call logs off a previous phone, but that intended for migration from another smart phone.

The simplest way is on a pc, and once its done, you’ll never have to do it again. As your Gmail is then your contacts directly.

Also Google make it very easy to migrate your contacts out of the google ecosystem if you ever want to. I think they use the simple open csv method.

Again good look at the docs.

Tangents are the best bit. Or at least they keep a stale topic going, if the topic it truly Interesting   and still had life, it will always revert back, if it doesn’t it is because they thread was finished.

Plus, if it wasn’t for tangents and personal touches,  tales and experiences, this forum would of died when MM did,as no one would of got to know each h other and give a shit. It would just be another, sterile tech forum.

There is a place for that style of forum, but the forum itself (as in the site)  needs to have a dedicated focus, MM and now this doesn’t, it’s a general tech meet up area, like a geeky pub, that tech is main general topic on stead of football and ladies.

Back on topic – Risen doesn’t look interesting at all.  more of the same from AMD. That’s about as much forum space it needs at this point.

Back on the off topic, I didn’t start! If your open to suggestions Lee, is there a search  bar, wile I was away I wanted to update the thread on Westworld, and I couldn’t find a search bar to look for it, and couldn’t be bothered picking through the forums, as I had no idea what forum it popped up in.

I do tag my threads, but last week was the first time I wanted to look for one, and found o couldn’t. Or at least could search out a search bar.

I bet most of you, especially with higher res monitors, use a higher dpi setting to. My wife does, even on low res. I can read her kindle for a 1000 paces.

I only use/d the higher dpi setting when we had the media pc in the lounge.

The ms text reader is awful, I’m sure everyone had accidentally activated that on log on at least once.

On chrome os it’s worse, as you have no idea how you turned it on, so takes 20 mins to figure out how to turn it off, at least on Windows it’s obvious.

I’m sure spell check is classed as an, and assisted tech. It assists me in word not days. Well that’s a bit of a porkie as I mainly use Google docs and save as word compatible. I suppose that is an assisted tech though. I’m stretching now.

I do have an MS keyboard or 3 actually, plus over the years they have taken 100s if not 1000s in OS and office payments, so just by using the assisted os update, it  is assisting my disabled wallet which ms took part in crippling.

Really stretching now, but I don’t think ms really care tbh. Of they did it wouldn’t be so easy.

Just sign into win8 with a Microsoft email account. Update it to win 10, when 10 us up and running them wipe it and fresh install win 10, it’s what we did here just to see if we could.

Not need to pay for win 10 upgrade it’d still free if you use spell checker, or anything that can even be faintly classed as an aid.   😉

Tbh I think I heard windows even removed the button that asked if you are lying or not. So it’s still free for anyone that knows. Not illegal in any way.
