The embedded windows you refer to is I think called win xt or nx, they still gets security patches.
Atms and stuff like that use it.
Xp is almost two decades old, it was created in and for a pre Internet era, Ms should cut it lose Altogether.
Fs – I said exactly the same, they should of left it wide open, if noting else it’s a good marketing opportunity to force people to upgrade.
This is about to turn in to a Home Alone thead. :good:
I have a few places, the fish tank and the tortoise house.
Also they would be good for OAPs the ones that like to turn every socket off before bed. My grandad would climb behind his tv cabinet evey night before going up to bed. Then when he finished watching his bedroom tv he would get out of bed, and turn the socket off.
Some remote plugs or sockets would of done him so good.
He may be alive today. I doubt it as he didn’t tell die of any socket related accident. but all them extra short walks had to of added up over 82 years.
That’s why is said (or tried to) in a “black spot” with no coverage, half is better than non. The already covered parts of the home would get the full speed the router gets. If you had to conect to the repeater you’d get less.
This where a home plug is better, however a repeater should always work. Home plugs don’t work for some setups.
That’s what I ment. The output speed of the repeater.
Can you see the perpetrator actually giving keys out now? I can imagine they was going for this much exposure.
If id done this, I would be distancing myself from this. I’d imaging every “special agency” in the world us now on alert fir this guy. I wouldn’t be asking for random payments. I’d be hiding in my bed.
I reckon it’s a safe bet to say all date is gone. And it’s time to start again (without xp).
That looks cool actually. But I’d still of gone with the TP link one, as i have had good experiance with them, and I don’t need the range capabilities. If I did, it would be a no brainer
Actually in going to make a mental note of this for future reference, as I often get people in the village ask about wifi coverage help. Some very old, very thick walled houses. If you need an extender, why not get a smart plug too.
Though I never checked if this was a repeater or an home plug. I’m not a fan of repeaters. As they half your speed coming out of it, not an issue if you get 76meg B-) but the type of people that ask me are on normal BB and get 3meg. I suppose 1.5meg is better than noting in that once dead space, but a home page would get nearer 3meg.
It is a repeater, but it does also have an energy monitor in it to. It is the Swiss knife of the plug world. Defo worth the money.
Ms need to do something, but all it ultimately achieves is the mindset of “were OK now”, and overhauls will be set back.
Id like want ms to come out big, saying something like
“corporation and governments have been more than aware for many years their infrastructure was insecure due to them not maintaining it. this is not an ms problem, it’s what happens when you don’t adequately protect your network infrastructure. We at ms are constantly creating more secure options, and any system from win 7/8/10, form the last decade would not of been susceptible to thus latest attack.
Our latest offering are the most secure yet, and these establishments know this, they know the risks they take storing vital and sensitive data on aging software but still they decide to use an offering that is almost twenty years old.
It’s a very sad occurrence that could of been simpler avoided. We at Microsoft will setting up extra emergency department to help out any entities that have been effected by this, and those that havent upgrade to the most secure and modern system for their needs ”
That’s how I’d like ms to use this situation, use it as a marketing opportunity . It would help us all, and get ring of 1000s of zombie bot nets off the Web.
Don’t patch xp, exploit it ms. After all Patching won’t get the info it will only stop it [the same attack] happening again. Don’t patch it I say.
I’ve not really read anything into this, bar the first post. And not seen any tv.
Just come online and the first thing in my news feed was fro RT reporting this is worldwide now, over 100k machines and counting.
If this is an xp issue, I have no sympathy for the organisations. But do for the like of their customers /patients.
I’m sure it will be fixed eventually.
I’m sure it will be OK.
I wouldn’t opt for a monitor one. I’d rather have a separate monitor, as a power usage monitor (at the individual plug level) is not something you need long term, it’s a testing device. In my eyes at least.
I was looking at smart wall sockets, which would be great if you had long pockets and house full of them, but the smart plug is a more sensible buy as it can be moved around to where it needs to be.
So I’m more than happy. :good:
Thanks guys, plugs been running since I got in yesterday and it does the job well. It’s pricy but it’s simple to use. I have a few of the old school plug timers, and I could never get them to work properly.
This just works, and being TP-link it should just keep on working. My home plugs have been working away for years with no intervention by me. I’ve had one die, out of 5, over about 5 years.
I did look at a few different smart plugs a while back, and the majority had a lot of negative feedback with reliability and connection issue. This being a decent brand, I thought the extra was worth it. Also it has a 3 year warranty. The others may of had warranties, but getting them to honour them would be almost impossible.
:good:
TNS have been a good team for a long time, them and Rhyl bossed the league for years, but Rhyl went bust a couple of years back, but are on their way back up. But doubt they will get to the level they was out. Mainly as they was chucking stupid money (for the league) at players. Also think they may of been hit by the tax man iirc.
Years ago me and my lads use to watch Rhyl regularly, they was good to watch, cheap tickets, with a cheap pie and coffee, (anfield it’s £12 for two hotdogs and a coke, only got me once), the issue with Rhyl was the ground is freezing no matter the weather. So come November – March it’s almost unbearable.
I don’t know what it is, but it’s like a wind tunnel.
You should just email him back telling him your dead, make it look like an auto responce. He will them look stupid as he tells everyone about your death.
Youll get to see see who he usually bad mouths you to, as you’ll get a load phone calls form people. Just tell them you have no idea how he come to that conclusion, but you have heard his mind is on on the turn.
That’s what you do when bored. Or screw with telesales people, that can be fun too.
As long as Cardiff city don’t get in, I’m all up for it.
Remember the year Liverpool won the CL (you may of forgot as we don’t like to mention it ;-)), that year we finished outside the top 4 and had to enter the competition at stage one, that first two leg game was against a TNS a small Welsh team.
They was never going to progress whoever they got, so to them it was the best draw they could get, alot of Liverpool supporters in that team, all got to play at anfield. In stead of some minnow from some tiny EU national.
Your right. I don’t think mine can either. You. Glasswire as you said would do it.
Ive had glass wire on my phone for a week or so, and it’s quite interesting seeing what app does what and how often.
It’s not the best of ideas putting them stickers on cds. If they get warm in the drive they can begin to peal. This can be a bug issue if your cd drive is slot loaded, also they add weight to the disk so adds added wear on the drive.
Did anyone ever use lightscribe? U never even seen one of them cd drive burners? Did you need to add pigments of some sort? How did they work.
GMX is ok. I have a hand full of addresses, but rarely use it. Gmail just can’t be beat. It’s their search that does it for me. It is brilliant.
I must have 10k emails (about 3k unread) and searching for a email for ‘x’ years ago never fails. Long gone are the days of me organising emails. I just never delete.
I’ve st got home, I think the road with all the cameras is called Stone road, it seems to run parallel to the M6. It was probably the main road before the M6 was built.
Yes the hotel is really old building, great architecture, it’s currently scafolded out on the fount, so work is being done.
I had a ride around the place last night when board and it’s a very part if the world. This morning I was in Sighford, and the drive there through the country roads was very nice indeed. The sunshine helps alot too.
Ive always said, if we had mid s French weather in the summer, there would never be a reason to leave the uk. Once you get off the Motorways the whole island is littered with beautiful countryside. But the weather isn’t reliable. So far safer bet is to go mainland euros for two for three weeks. Which is sad.
I’d direct your fambo to the premier Inn, hard to go with them. Though the one in stone, looked an older one. But it will still have the beds. I love PI beds
Our material, memory foam is about due an upgrade, its 15 years old, but still fine so hard to justify replacing but when we do we will be getting one of the Pi Hypnos mattresses.
http://www.premierinn.com/gb/en/why/sleep/buy-our-bed.html
Probably not from PI but go direct to Hypnos
