Even on the admin screen Chris? I’ve see most Routers come with random passwords printed on the back. But the actual admin page is usually some standered default admin/password that can be looked up on line.
Even my asus router, had a generic admin out of the box. And that’s not aimed at the average non technical person. Suppose though that they know the majority of their buyers will be changing there logins ASAP..
I find it hard to be critical in these matters, as we can all see how stupid it is to have generic admin pages, as can the makers of the devices, but the majority of users, couldn’t handle another password username combo. Especially one that is the gateway to their Internet.
Most people just look at you blank and say errm, just after they ask your for any type of PC help, and you start asking passwords. Then you know your in for a long afternoon. After I’ve helped the same person more than 2 or 3 times, and I’ve explained about passwords etc, I just have no patients with them the 4th time.
I now have not only my passwords, but most of the people in the houses, plus in laws and others.
I still have the new TalkTalk box unopened. if I think on later, I’ll get a kid to get it for me, (not in an easy location for my back) its just boxed up next to my router, waiting for the day it needs plugging in to get remote help from TT. (fingers crossed its along time away).
That’s a nice game. One of the last shoots I enjoyed. Once they went all futuristic and away from WW2 I lost intrest.
Looking forward to this year’s call of duty. Though I’m not going to rush out, I’ll wait till their is some sort of sale on. Or wait 13 years for a free download. I have that many games unplayed, I probably could wait.
It’s not that they don’t give a hoot bob, it’s the average person, no 90% plus of people, would break it, or be simply to scared to mess about with passwords. Most people I know, never save passwords/usernames, so sky would be getting calls form people by the hour about trivial things.
Sky is not the only one that does this, it’s an industry wide thing. Just Google and brand model number of router, and you’ll get the default login. It’s usually admin/password.
I was away at the weekend, and the default password on the virgin od was 1234. It said I had 4 attempts before it locked the box. First I tried 0000 followed by 1234 (bingo), next would of been 1111 then I’d of stopped, before I locked the box.
I don’t know if this was the default pin or one the owners set. But I’d imagine it’s the default.
I always set pins up as 1664. Not my bank, but more tedious ones like tv and Windows login pin.
Always though HSBC was a Chinese bank, until I just looked, and found out it’s British, or at least, not as Chinese as I first thought.
Ether way, I’d expect a multinational to have its call centres in the cheapest locations.
Also never knew TSB has gone all Spanish. I would expect their CS to go overseas withing the first 18/24 months. Even though for years the TSB was marked ed on the “local” bank. Now its sold, noting past said means much.
Thr premier inn give you free “unlimited” wifi, but it’s very slow, it’s ment for email and very light be browsing. Iirc it’s a tenner to get get quick enough BB for media etc.
Ive notice over the last year, that it’s rare that you can’t get a 4g or even guick enough 3g to watch media.
This weekend I was away and before we come home I watched the f1 on my phone over 4g. In truth I had a gang over and didn’t want to drive. So it’s rare now I have to stump up for the extra BB.
Alot of the “posher” hotels, have had a slap on the wrist over the years for actively blocking 3/4g, and trying to make customers pay their fee for quick Internet. (it was never just a tenner), but now they can’t do that, so in theory they will need to bring their BB prices down.
The embed only half worked, but it can still be clicked.
I always said the question was to complex for the (above) average person to comprehend. Also said I didn’t agree with the public being asked it. We already voted for the “right person(s)” to manage the country, it should be passed on to us.
As all it turned out to be is a publicity contest, more punch and Judy, it’s hard to make remain in sexy, but it’s alot easier for leave groups with no power, what so ever, to make up great lies that they know are tinder pot issues for alot of people.
There is still alot of twists and turns ahead, nothing will surprise me. Tbh, I lack intrest these days.
Photos mainly. But when they are 24mp Raw files (40 to 50meg), and you have a few hundred, it’s takes an age
I’m really spoilt, its a 1st world issue I know, but when I got 80down 20 up, it was so good I never noticed it. When my Internet contract lapsed, I decided to drop down to the 40/1 package, the one up was hugely noticeable, the 40 not. I’d be happy with 40 down, but the 1 was a bottleneck. So I rang up and upgraded back to my 80/20.
I now look at up more, simply because I think once you get to 20 down, for most it’s more than enough. I’m sure I’d rarely notice the drop from 80.
1st world issues.
I thought a number of EU of officials said, there is exit or, stay under new rule rules.
So I’d say that was more like “hard brexit or less than nothing” defo lose lose.
Now I just want it over, whichever way, the quicker it’s finished the quicker we can move on. I still think it won’t happen.
What will happen to doggy passports? Will our uk dogs have to pay the price? One should call the RSPCA.
I see pm already recommended tc, but you have worries over what permissions they need and why.
Here is their answer to what they need and why.
Also most phones now will let you install app then let you toggle with the granted permissions. Again CM was the best at this, you could crated a sandbox to keep “suspicious” apps in. They stripped most of that feature out, for the phones that shipped with CM installed, but it was still in cm rom when you download it. Reason being the way cm had privacy gard set up, no carrier would let them on their network. For the simple reason the carrier wants a back door in to all phones. All of them. The cm rom made this very hard for them, so they had to scale their privacy guard down for thier offical releases.
That was 4 years ago they implemented this, both ios and Android has taken steps towards this, but even they have to play to the tune of the networks.
Install True caller app, it’s basically a phone and sms spam filter. It does other stuff too, but I just use it for that.
Most of the know numbers will never get to your phone. you’ll be notified that someone tried to call, so if it’s a mistake you can white-list them. Any new spam lines that do get through you can one press block them. If enough users block a number, it then gets put on the True caller auto blocked list.
It’s a good app. And free. You can pay, but the adds are very un intrusive, and they want £3pm to get rid of the un intrusive adds.
It use to be about £5 to get rid of the adds, which I would of happily paid. But not a subscription. The reason I didn’t true caller (with out adds) was backed into cyanogenmod, and I could never see myself moving from it. Rip cm.
What upload speeds do you get with them? Also download. But in this day and age, it’s a he uploaded that interests me more.
I must have enough games to last me two lifetimes. ??
Anyone that wants a new laptop, we always send them to save on laptops. Great prices, and good after care if you have an issue.
A big well done to Lee and his choice of server. The heat we have had over the last week would of knocked the old mm site off line.
Iirc Lee said the server is French?? Mid inland, France is a hot hot place in the summer, so I bet they are well prepared in dealing with heat.
Either way well done all, I notice no slowdown. Well at least not here, in real life, when the temps hit 30 old Duke slows down to a crawl. Body kicks into “holiday mode,” my endorphins go up with the heat, at about the same rate as my energy goes down.
When I was at uni, the courses was put online, but not for public access, you could only access the modules you was signed up to. Back then there was no tracking of attendance or virtual attendance. Which was good for me, as I lived 40+ miles from my uni, so on the days when you are I had one lecture, I’d rarely go, if it wasn’t an interesting module.
I found most of the lecturers highly boring.
Especially in this modern age anywindows laptop would do. Id stay away from chromebooks as some subjects may wan a you to remote into to use programs on their servers. I’m my day it was java based and terrible. Liverpool uni that my lad goes, has a similar set up which is far superior now.
I’d still doubt a CB would work. But contacting the uni tech department would clear that up. Still for the price of a CB you can get a referb i7 laptop.
Yep!
This day and age, all the lectures are recorded, or at the minimum the power point slides are put up online.
Even when I went we has the slides and notes put up on line. That’s why I only attended one marketing lecture. It was a a waste of time to attend the BS the guy bang on about. Quicker to scan his slides, and read the books he took the info from.
First year quants was the same. The Prof, what the worst teacher ever, you’d come out more confused than you went in. So I’d just see that the lecture topic was, and learn what I needed from external books.
Long story short, it’s unlikely they will need to record (audio or video) the lecture themselves. It will all be released to the unis online “blackboard” (or whatever they use today) at the time the lecture / tutorial begins.
They don’t recorded each one, you’ll get the past years one.
It promotes not attending lectures, but it also makes you listen to the lectures better when there, instead of frantically trying to write it all down, then only being able to read half of your notes once your home. As that was the way previously.
Im a big Google user, been using Chrome since its UK release, and im still yet to figure its bookmark system out. I don’t bookmark often, (I use push bullet and intake pater, more. And also Google keep. But when I do I find it awkward to find and created folders in a way that makes sense.
It should be an easy endever. A good while ago, I had a book mark on either chrome or FF that recorded every closed you ever visited. I just to use that to look up ‘lost’ links.
Before that, I mad my own basic html page that has simple drop down tabs, that I could chuck all the bookmarks in. And had it as my home screen.
To this day, my cobbled together bookmark home page, WS probably the best set up I had.
I still think something you can draw on is best. Maybe simply pen and paper. And a ms net book or chrome book to write up essays.
You can use office on a CB. But I’d use gdocs, I prefer it to Word anyway.
