Have you checked your reset jumper pins, sound like a short. Maybe. Or the reset button may be a bit broke.

Try unplugging them that will rule out the switch. Then place a bit of card between the +&- on the pins themself to isolate them.

      Or

When you touch the case, could it moving the mouse? If so it may be just in Sleep mode.

You could try unplugging the mouse, then give the pc case a nudge.

They probably are, almost definitely, but I’d bet they are dissuaded from doing so. The chances if then damaging ceiling etc is great. Not to mention how filthy most lofts are. I boarded ming out before Xmas (finished late xmas eve) after putting it of for over ten years. Dirty horrible places.

I’d imagine they arnt insured or heavily dissuaded from going in lofts. Also who wants to be crawling a wound loft spaces, when a few holes will do.

If it was my house I’d go through the loft, or the “cleanest” finish for the job was.  But if I’m on the clock, and a few holes with a cordless drill will surfice, I’d be getting my drill out the van.

Good idea Chris. Will make fixing stuff much easier. Os wipe, down load their data. 20mins job dons.

I wouldn’t offer it, I’d inform them of the terms of you IT support roll. If your not backing up with Dr Chris, Dr Chris won’t fix your broke arse computer.

Also you have you refer to yourself on the 3rd person as you make your demands lol

BT was the one that made me blow my top, not because anyone was bad, rather you could never get anyone on the phone. This is no exaggeration. I was with wanadoo BB and BT had a good deal and I wad out of contract. I called them nonstop on hold for the best part of 4 days. With the house phone just plaguing music on the speaker phone.

By the time some one picked up I’d already priced TT and was ready to move. Amazing I rang to give them cash, and ended up with me leaving.

Sky is a close second to BT, I’m so glad I could finally leave sky when quick Internet arrived. I probably had to call sky every 3 months or so, and every time it would be a long hold, followed by being passed through China, and ending up in Ireland, it was a long process, at my expense, but the level 2s in Ireland was good. I’m sure sky get a cut of the incoming phone calls!

TT for me have been good, I’ve probably had to ring once every 2 years, and they have sorted my issue out fast. One little annoyance, is the first layer of CS you get will linen to your issue, and say I’ll transfer you to tech… Then follow it up with, we have an offer…. I always reply let’s fix my brocken Internet, before you sell me more.

My last issue I had, I used their online chat service to fix it. It was great, didn’t have to speak to a single person and you can do the chat over the case of a few hours, or even days. I liked that. But on the whole, I’ve not had much interaction with TTs CS over the ten years or so I’ve been with them, which I think is a testament to their service.

Though I know people in my same village that moan about TT BB service, I have no idea how they get such worse Internet than me, considering we share the same line. I think being non tech, they get frustrated when they get “lost” then ring TT for answers of answers that really shouldn’t be asked of them.

Not really an android app more a tip.

This is something I’ve used for ages and thought it common knowledge, but the wife just seen me do it and was amazed.

In the home screen search bar, you can type commands. The one I use the most is “alarm xx:Xx, that will auto set a one time alarm.

There are many others, call name, will start dailing the default number, if they have a home, mobile or/and work, just write call name (work/mobile) and it will call that, same with” text name (mobile), message ” will send a msg. I think what’s app works too.

Also” open (app name) will launch an app, along with “play (song name).. Start 60second timer..

Basically anything that you can do by voice, you can do by typing.

I’m yet to figure out how to turn my bedroom lights on by writing it. I can say” OK google be troops lights “which toggles the lights via home talking to ifttt which in turn talks to the lights. But typing it doesn’t have the same effect. But pressing the toggle button I have in my home screen is far quicker, I’d still like to be able to write it. Just because. Lol.

You may need at least android 6.0 to do any of the above, I’m not sure. Bit thought this was common knowledge, it’s how I interact with my phone, by voice and writing, but wifey had no idea.

Very good Dave tar. I don’t think a lot of business like handing over control to a 3rd party. As you say especially in a day where the laws are up for potential change. The EU has a good track record with regards to data and competition laws, the uk on the other hand, seems to want to control out flow of data more and more.

Hopefully, IF we leave,  we will have to keep the majority of EU laws, in exchange  for access to the EU market. Still a big IF though.

Always be nice when making a complaint of anytime. A bit of manners and patience goes along way.

Most CS reps and en  have a good bit of leeway of assigning in blame. If your nice, offer a coffee before they are trough the door, they will more likely shift the fee to the company.

It can be hard to grit your teeth, especially when when your appointment is anything between 9am-7pm and it ruins your day.

But entering into anything other than civil, your going to come out the loser.

The cop shows always amaze me, when the person being arrested goes mental. I’ve been arrested a few times in my youth, and never was i a dick to the officers. What could I possible achieve being a dick? They have all the power.  Being nice and reasonable, will get you a brew and let out at 7am instead of 12pm. Same applies in every form of life, be nice and things will mostly go in your favour.

I don’t juggle either Richard, being a, man I’d keep my phone in the same pocket and my keys in another. My wallet no longer takes up the pocket it once did.

Re unlocking etc, when you have it locked via finger print, you just take your phone out an touch your finger. Much faster for all. In tesco I use the tesco app instead of android pay,  as it doesn’t have the £30 limit. I’d like that to be lifted via a pin insertion, but it not atm.

But there is defo no juggling. If I know I’m going to spend over £30 in other shops, I grab my visa out my car door pocket, then transfer the money to alliance over once home.

The simplest way to raise the £30 limit would be to able yo transfer a balance onto the android pay account, then implement a pin lock or a user defined  limit. As atm the limit is set to the standardised Nfc payment limit.

I wouldn’t use android pay if I needed to unlike multiple phone the old way. As before finger print unlock, I wouldnt set a lock on my devices. Cba with, though today we also have smart lock, which I have set to my Bluetooth buds so when my phone is on my person and withing 30 foot (give or take) of my buds, the phone is never locked, it bypasses the fingerprint. So today I may of turned on the pin/password screen lock. Also i have my Smart lock set to many locations and wifi networks. So the lock rarely gets in my way. Ev n when you it’s on though, it’s just a single half a second tap to the wake button.

I don’t get the same juggle reference as it’s just the same as grabbing for your wallet, only simpler as you don’t need to o then open it and re achieve for a card / cash. Just ‘grab and bump’.

Although if the limit is upped, you must not forget you do lose out on any visa protections over 100£, as it’s Google handling the transaction not visa. One to think about in the future, on a transaction to transaction  basis.

He is a bit of a strange guy tbh, he often appears on twits android show.

But I do agree, not all photos do need backing up, but I’d rather the app backed everything up, as it take 2 seconds to delete the picture, that then will remove itself from your cloud.

Google drive sync looks decent, I’ve only seen the marketing release blerb, and not actually seen it, but it seems to look good. Ment to be a full pc back up solution.

Given how messy my google drive is, crone os users will know what I mean, I need to do some tidying up before I let it lose on any of my win pc’s.

Also another issue is I don’t my work files going on Google drive. But I’d imagine you can deselect t any folders/drives you don’t want to to look at.

Also at this point I don’t have the space to do full pc pack ups on Google drive, iirc I have about 50gb free on there. Plus already have my back up routines well drilled.

Just noticed the g5 (non plus) doesn’t have Nfc (still), so I’d go with the WS spark 2x. Nfc is now a must for me. Use android pay that often now, I rarely carry my wallet. I’m almost cash free. (bar tolls).

It’s getting less often I need to get the emergency visa card out the car. Funny enough petrol stations, cos I’m to lazy to go in the shop and pay.

With bezels shrinking 5.5″ is as big as it was.

Although i now have a 5″ phone, and I think it’s now regarded as small, I think 5.5″ is probably the new normal.

I recall getting the htc one x @ 4.8″ and my wife laughed at the size, calling it a rediculous size. I think her current  P9 is 5.2″ iirc.

Still the same today ed, I give blood, and one of the questions on the form each 8 weeks is did you get a blood transfusion  in the 80s, or words to that effect.

Or it was and thankfully they dropped the form fulling every session, and gone to an android based tablet system. In Wales at least. Not sure if England blood system has gone paperless. Hopefully so as it always seemed a waste of papers and admin time filling in the exact form, time and time again, not to mention, the triage having to check all your identical answers each time.

Now you you sign to say noting changed iirc. I don’t read it tbh, just sign in and sign. Its a much speeded up system than it was 18 months ago. You now only need to speak to the triage nurse if you tick that something changed. If all is the same you get the green light and pushed to a bed.

I’d go moto G5, nothing against WF, I just like motos offerings. Two of my kids have the G4 and had no complaints.

They are quite large, so you will want to check it against your pockets.

Also I’d buy off amazon, as my girl managed to break her charge port (her fault) and as usual, they just sent a new one no questions asked. We just had to return the broken one with in 30 days.

She was out a phone for all of about 18 hours. Probably less, I contacted Amazon about tea time, and the replacement was here before lunch. They may be taking over the world, but they are doing it so politely.

Lol let’s wait till they are a monopoly.

Speaking of French language. In Canada they have their own separate “French language Council” that is even stricter than the actual French language council “.

I see it being very similar to the likes of Gibraltar, where they more British in their britishness, than us natives. Northern Ireland is similar. The one that want to be British that is.

But to Keith’s question, computers the Internet, and by extension  AI is going to eventually have us all speaking a version on ‘chinglish’ eventually.

It won’t be defined by the AI, as that learns from what we input to it, but the likes of AI with propagate the universal language.

I got a cheap lumia with a cheap tablet (tesco job) and i also liked the os, it worked really well on a really under spec’d phone. So I bet it was great on a higher end stuff especially with the great cameras they had back then compared to Android and ios.

But that app store was terrible. Hundreds upon hundreds of fake apps, the search never worked so you couldn’t find the few ligit apps that made it over.

Also Google never helped, not releasing any native apps. Given the states, that the majority of Apple users, use the Google apps over the ios equivalents, it was a non starter not having them.

I bet ms come to regret  the whole ‘scroogled’ campaign.
