I est camera app I’ve seen/used is the stock hauwei one on my wife’s P9, the ui is on point. It’s super simple, but with one touch you get full control, and it’s all laid out logically. It’s fantastic and must admit quite jealous of it. Ironically it takes fantastic photos without the need to mess with any settings. So non of the great settings are needed unless you really know what your doing.
I can’t make it take a better photo than it does in auto. It’s a very good camera, very close to the pixel/6p. It was cheap (relatively) at iirc £450 when new. The 6p was £500, when it was the iPhone and Samsung was £7-800.
Lucky thing is in 2 years these great camera phone modules will be in £200 devices.
I was playing with the Moto g4 last night, I forgot how good that phone is, the camera is decent too. My girl just got an iPhone 7(ish) so I was setting the g4 up for my 9 year old. And in hand it felt not different to my Pixel. Not yet seen a g5 in the flesh.
John, I’ve been awake about 90mims, and now I have no idea what day it is.
Though it’s always today, and never tomorrow. But is it yesterday again?
Last nights star trek hasn’t helped either.
I don’t think Ed thinks we need ship’s today. On one hand I agree, but I think we should realise our place in the world and stop fighting people with sticks.
The day when we actually need an armada is the we are screwed anyhow.
However war makes alot of money, so we won’t be changing anytime soon.
I like drones in support of ground troops. Have a then a few miles away, high in the sky, on notice. A cheaper, less costly air supports.
The more things change, the more they stay the same.
Currently reading Battle for the Falklands, but Matt Hastings, and he talks of the gov wanting to disable the RM to bay for ships and planes.
I know the Falklands save the RM, but never looked into why. Then it was because the powers that be thought elite troops wouldn’t be needed in a nuclear war set up of the cold War. Now it seems its planes and drones.
Looks like the marines need a war quick. Luckily for them, the world is going to shit, and they will be likely need relatively soon.
And someone should be shot over the whole carrier and jet debacle. Or at least a good long enquiry. Then a possible shooting.
My first issue with it is, it just looks plain boring. The fighting looks like Brain numbing repetitive tedium.
@wasbit are you sure they was bought out, or was it thier way to hike the prices?
Yes, for a card reader, the pound shop will do. It won’t be the quickest, but hey, it’s a quid reader.
The nexus 6p can be had on ebay for around £185. The camera in that is fantastic. It’s the same one in the pixel, strangely the 6p camera never got the recognition it deserved.
I got stuck last summer without my camera so I just used the 6p. I wad amazed with it.
Should of ordered the iPhone x, unlimited data and text just a snip at between £85-110pm (carrier depending).
I’m so worried that this thing actually sells well. If it does, you know next year’s top tier devices are going up in price.
Sorry, I have a had full of the non power monitor types. The TP-Link plugs I have are very good. In the sense that they just work.
Seems to be a trend for everything TP-Link I buy.
Congrats on the car. That seems to of taken ages to be built. It’s ment to be a little cracker.
I would like then to build a really hot version off the GTE (not sure I like vw using that name), I think if they could build a golf (or polo) with a 1.2(ish) petrol engine, but get it up over 200bhp with a hybrid system, it could really improve/boost the rep of hydrids.
Ive been looking at the rav4 hybrid as my next car. I’m going off the idea of the Octavia vrs as it’s has a sampler tank than my current car and will do 10mpg less. I detest visiting petrol stations. The rav4 h, I’m not sure of the tank size, but it does 10mpg more than my current car. At a real world 46mpg, which is amazing for that type/size of car.
Only issue is I don’t really like SUVs I’ve spent my like avoiding them. I may just get the normal 2l deisel or 1.5liter petrol octavia estate. Both should give around 50mpg.
If it was me, I’d get a fiesta St 150 or 200. I’d be more happy. Even with the fiestas dated interior.
There is a number of games “throw away” items of no use towards the beginning, if you discard them, towards the end of the game you’re sol.
I like city builder games, I will always do the first run in sandbox mode, as I want to play the whole game, with out money constraints. I don’t see this as cheating, as city builders have enough to think about with transport and pop growth.
Is that a ‘no touching someone else’s coke’ rule. ?
Jk aside, the navy are very strict on hanky panky. Being an ex RM there was few ladies on camp, just a few navy nurses and naafi girls. You was in a world of hurt if caught entering the girls blocks. Not that it stopped it mind.
I doubt they was high while on duty. But is bad form non the less. But cocaine is just as much part of life as alcohol. Go to any pub/football game/event/even shopping centre and it’s everywhere, you can’t miss it if you know what to look for. I’m sure it always has been. There has always been a drug of choice outhere. Wasn’t it the 70s when they said, prozac and gin fueled our mothers?
Go back to the 40s and we fought a war on bennies, thru was even issued by the bucket to our young commandos. I’d guess submarine crews also got them too.
Growing up where I did, drugs was everywhere. But it didn’t take long after moving away to notice, it had nothing to do with where I grew up, they are just simply everywhere.
Funny enough, a very close friend of mine, joined the Raf in the 90s and alot of them was given the boot for having coke in thier systems.
Yes BL, same with M&S they have great online, home and store delivery, but still hit the buffers of his year.
Not that I’m a big M&S user, but I they do great trousers, shirts and ties. Trousers are cheap too, around £30 a pop, their shirts are of very good quality, but at about £30 I find them not so great value. Well they are good value, as they are fit and wash well, but at the end of the day it’s just a work shirt. So I find £30 for a non designer shirt a bit steep. Doesn’t stop them being my first port of call for work clobber and funeral ties. For some reason I can never find my black ties. I think I leave them in taxis etc, usually always quite lubricated by the end of each one. Strangely always a good day out a funeral. Unlike weddings that normally end in arguments or fights.
Only wish I had one close. Though I think it’s the sign of the times. Between eBay, amazon and ali, people will always choose them to buy the bulk of any project, and use the likes of maplins for the bits they forget.
No business can last forever being an afterthought seller. Just look at toy R Us over the pond. Biggest big box toy store, going down the tubes. Restructuring $2bn debt just a few months back. They blamed on lines stores. Maybe they should be looking closer at their own owning store. It’s a really crappy experiance at both Toys R US and Smyths toys. To late and not enough effort.
I can only imagine they are hoping this holiday period will see then through. I hope the don’t go bust with out fulfilling any kids presents. Would be a bit crappy of you spent all your Xmas budget at toys r Us, for it to fail before it shipped.
I prefer this place. It’s fantastic about an hour from me. Super expensive though.
But for a home user you need non of what you mentioned. Even more today with win 10, it’s pretty locked down out of the box. (aside form it’s constant connection to the mother ship).
Or better yet, use chrome os, seems to be the old mac type of affair. Not enough users to make it worth while to attack. Though the big G, has the same grip on the os as MS do with 10.
Today I think we should be looking more at mobile os and securing those, as both Android and ios, have big markets. Android now has more active devices than windows. I think it wad about two months ago that milestone was announced.
The worry with phone os, and the way we use it today, is how much it can we k your life if hacked. Especially financially.
I do love listening to Steve Gibson security now pod cast. Honestly the guy is that clever in the subject, I understand probably 20% of what he says, but I do listen to his conclusions and take them on board.
I’m not sure he has give up xp either. But he is clued up enough to do that if he wishes, us mortals sadly arnt.
A case of do as I say, not as I do.
Probably the same with AV, if you’re careful enough, people like Steve Gibson and leo Laporte often talk off air (you get to see behind the scenes if you watch live) about not using an AV at all. The caveat is today the av doesn’t take up valuable cpu power like it historically did. They say they don’t use avs and never get in trouble. But they don’t advertise or re one it. Now with 10 I don’t think you can go ‘bareback’ anymore, having to have ms turned on, or something in its place.
Ive never needed an av outside of ms security essentials / defender, before that I used avast I think, only cos uni made us all use that. Iirc I used avg to before.
Bob I just lost an hour to that Irish guy. Very good indeed.
Wow that year flew bob, I remember when you was having sky installed. Re you technical question I don’t know the humax products. But I wouldn’t get a dvd recorder, they are so clumsy and slow.
In the summer i cleared out some crap and chucked 100s of movies I recorded on to dvd years ago, at a rate of 3 per night off sky. I could only queue/fit 3 on a disk Then loaded them onto a hdd.
Wiped the hdds years ago, and ditched the disks in the summer. It was actually a hard thing to do. Even when at the tip, spools in hand, I had se on thoughts of chucking this sd dvd recording, I’d only played once, and that was a rip not an actual play. They probably didn’t work due to age, 10-15 years old.
Think the recorder was binned the year before.
I wouldn’t trust kaspersky. Too many bad stories lately. No doubt they do a good job, at the whole Mcafee routine, and their product does some good, maybe??
Their American and Russian rumoured links would be enough to take it off my pc, especially given its not really needed. It’s not like it’s an os, we can’t easily ditch windows for instance. But Kas, I wouldn’t trust.
The equivalent moto G, ll be the G5, but if you could find a g4 closer to your budget, it’s a great phone. Actually given what the was happy with, the G4 play, which was last year’s entry level moto g, would be a great option too if they are still sold.
The Moto g4 play was iirc £120 when out new. The g4 £150/60 and the g4 plus 180. Today the g5 is about £180.
Batteries are easy to fix, but I wouldn’t bother on an original moto g. As much as i loved that phone. It’s day has past.
