Drez, that project looks ancient in computing terms!?
Turing broke his teeth on that project ?
My youngest is the only Welsh one, though not being very ‘English’ (or any ish), I decided I’d always support Wales over England when they come up against each other.
Simply because I didn’t want my girl to be forced, via peer pressure, to be English, given the rest of us are, so I decided when she started school I’d be Welsh when I needed to be. The wife gets very English when the footy is on. So I balance that out, to her massive displeasure.
Plus I’d already forced Liverpool on her, I didn’t think it was right to force England on her too. I’m not an animal lol.
BL, it was the navel 4 cog. 56billion type 2.
Lee, I’m not sure why your down on this, it was shown at the imperial War museum, and was created but some real data security scientists that are connected to enigma historical project.
It is meant to 1. Highlight how far we have come, since those small first steps. (small in computing terms, huge in brain/brain although terms) and 2.to highlight the power of AI.
Today is very similar in the computing journey then was the start of computing (disregarding the Babbage engine of course), today we are on the cusp of AI taking over.
I think this was a great demo.
Also rewind a few year before WW2, and the press then was saying the same rubbish about the you h of that day, just like they was pre ww1, and can only imagine, evey generation before.
Entre any, of our militery institutions, and they are full of great brave people.
Look up Anders Larson, a hero of mine, (both SAS and SBS fight over him), some of his biographies talk of how normal people can do anything when they have to. I also served in the RM group named after the place of his death (I can’t spell it) camatchio ( lake/town in Italy). He also talks alot about the amount of drugs (bennies), commandos was issued and ate back then.
They was the in dance of hall drug of the 30s, a speed pill. Yes even youth back then took recreation drugs. Point is nothing has change.
Iirc cocaine was not long band from chemist sales around that time. So same issue then as now, opium, coke and speed. We now have lsd and hanks to the cia.
The school has done their propaganda job well, my 9 yo is all up for another royal wedding. She already can’t wait for the next incoming royal royal sprog.
They still keep trying to sell her on religion too, which annoys the shit out of me. Teach facts please.
Also the persist with this mythical language, insisting its a real thing. They call it Welsh iirc ?
I have no bad feeling for the top royals, I’d even make up a bed for Liz to say over, if she was ever stuck or to drunk to drive home. However once William dropped a kid or two, I no longer see Harry as a top draw royal. He is up there, but unless he does some great “planning”,he ain’t getting the big job.
I care about his wedding about as much I do for whoever is getting married in the lodge at the weekend. Ie None.
If I’m home when its on no doubt I’ll watch. Wow, the royals sit about on par with the England national team, I’ve just realised.
They need stone decent grunt, as they are rendered in real time on a 3d environment. I’ve never messed with, and Lego environment (or even the new pc game) that wasn’t a pita, after 30mins.
You need some serious patience, even with a buttery smooth pc. Anything with lag and frame drops, would end with it sliding down my wall.
You just reminded me of ‘quick changes’ bob ??
One thing I don’t miss from basic.
The fire TV is a good kodi box. Not sure about the stick, but I’d imagine the latest £25 stick has the same umph as our first gen fire £80 box.
The only drawback, (this may of changed) is how amazon os handles side-loaded apps. It bugs me, but the wife loves the amazon box.
@freakshow I never knew that. I don’t think it was like that in 2005. Or I never knew if it was.
But for a house of 7, 7 showers/baths, lots of toilets flushing, and 4 plus machine washes a day, was never gonna be cheaper.
A royal baby could be ordered just in time for when we decide not to leave EU.
Me and my neighbour have a single feed that goes through both houses. About ten years ago my then single neighbour, knocked to ask if we would have a meter put in, as she wanted one, and the water board said I had to agree if she was to have one.
At the time we had 7 in the house, so I politely de line the offer. I felt a little sorry for her, but she said she never thought I’d go for it anyway.
I think it all depends on how much water you use, if you use little, a meter may be best, if your a high consumer, hell no.
Also once you swap to a new one metered meter, you’ll not be able to switch back.
I’m a) fan for energy and consumption saving, but at the same time I’d rather not give more money to rich companies. I recon I need it more.
I don’t care either way for the royal fambo, but boy do I like a military band and pomp. So I’ll keep them just for the that.
I don’t even mind the £8m or whatever it will cost us for policing it. It would only be – -spent- waisted somewhere else.
Though the royals are probably the only people, that take more benifit especially than MPs. At least they don’t them moan about the people on benifits like MPs do, With out realising they are just posh benifit scroungers. After all they do little, and draw a lot form the pic coffers, while moaning that to many are framing £80 a fortnight! A little side issue I have with MPs.
@tadka if you install a second drive (ssd) to use a ‘scratch disk’ it will help alot.
My lad does Yt vids, I spit his games on to a 240gb ssd, the operating system to a 120gb ssd (iirc) and a chucked on my ancient 30gb ssd to use to record to.
His system is old i5 750, with a gtx970, once the ‘scratch dust went in it really upped the quality he could capture. Though iirc he still captures at 720p but at a higher bit rate.
I can’t really the capture software we decided on, it’s japanese, some don’t like it but it worked best for us. He uses Sony vagus to edit. As his school gives out licences, and teaches that. No way I’d by it when Blender is free.
Dxtory is the recording sw he uses. Iirc it cost 25£ ish, it had to be purchased in ¥ at the time. Which was about 5 years ago.
My lad renders on a second pc with a gtx 460 in it as 1. The 970 wasn’t supported, (probably is now) 2. His pc could not handle gaming, capture AND rendering. 3 dad is to tight to buy him a new pc. Though I think next year I’ll update his rig. It’s worked hard for a long long though like the i7920 I use to game, it just keeps working and well. I’ve been saying for 5 plus years, it’s probably going this year.
CPU intensive games like city builders (my type of game) does start to slow once pops get so big. Other than that I don’t have many games that suffer. Both project racing and gta 5 still run 1080p at over 60fps. Which I’m more than happy with.
If your struggling, try a third old ssd to record onto.
Christ decent pc’s have gotten cheap. When I built mine they came out at about that. 10 years ago!!
And at that time, I was saving about 400£ by building. I doubt you could match the rrp today.
I’d add
If your doing youtube, you’ll want to make sure whatever video software you use to edit and render the yt video supports the gpu you purchase. A 10min YouTube video can take a few hours to tender on a cpu, 20mins on a gpu.
For example an hours worth of game capture will be 30gb plus in size, at just 1080p at a decent bit rate. If your going for larger than the 1080, your gonna need some real hardware.
You don’t need the best gpu for rendering, so pick the one that is needed for your games, the double check it works with the video software. Then either change the software or the gpu, which ever cheaper.
You’ll save a fortune on eleccy.
I just like the idea that a load of mp now have a reason to do “research” on pornhub.
Eucalyptus oil (obus) is great, use that often in the inter months I just sprinkle it on my pillow.
As to bad foods, u love a cheese and onion pasty. But oh boy puff pastry hates me. But it’s soooo nice. Could just do a sayer C&O now. Yum yum, followed by “I’m dying” lol.
That’s my issue Ed, their reliance on antibiotics for all common stuff. If your issue isn’t common they just refer you. And usually give you some AB anyway.
Iirc isn’t the the guidelines, max twice a year?
For the longest time now, we have seen reports saying in 20 years (or something ) if we keep eating AB as we are, they just won’t work anymore. Then we will be in trouble.
Maybe that’s the gran ‘population’ plan, kill us with kindness.
Much slower game so more emphasis on passing. I’m sure the men could pass just as well.
It’s not an apples to apple comparison.
Though I have nothing against the women’s England team. I’d give them more time than the men’s team. I already support one team that forever promises but always fails. I can’t support two teams like that.
Atleast Liverpool plays eye catching football (good and bad), England plays cold catching football.
Anyone see the Everton turn out on Thursday. Must of been 1/4 full. The stats won’t back that up, as the fans need to buy the tickets to get the next tickets (that’s how footy works), and attendance is based on tickets sold not, bums on seats. Come 80 mins I’d be amazed if 2000 people was still in wooderson.
I’m in total agreement. But the only place to get them (bar vets) is the doctors. Surely it’s cheaper to tell the docs to curb their defacto reliance on prescribing them
As I said earlier, if a doc gives them you, you’ll take them. My wife with all her ills, was given them on a monthly basis for years. I always went mad about how many and regular in ever increasing doses. Eventually she got C diff, however before the realised what it was, they fed her yet more strong antibiotics, which is the opersite of what should be done. C diff feeds on the stuff.
Even now, they try to giver her the crap monthly. I have zero time for GPs. 20 years ago I figured this out. If you have an issue, read up on it, then when your at the GP, carefully explain what you need. As all gps do is read up on your symptoms, guess, and give you antibiotics and hope. They are useless.
Bob- yes the the phara industry is based on back handers, and what makes money, not what is the best for the patient. Just like life, if your not bent you’ll go no where in life. Sad but true.
I know many people with great life’s, that have less than ligit incomes. The majority of us tey to stick to the rules (as close as possible), but only ever tread water.
Yesterday we picked the wife’s weekly prescription up from the docs, and there was a generic leaflet in it warning of overuse of antibiotics, informing the reader that you shouldn’t go the docs for any old sniffle.
My first thought was, tell the doctors to stop handing them out, not the recipient that will follow the docs orders.
They must of been putting in all prescription bags, as my wife can’t have them no more as she had Cdiff last year twice.
Strange leaflet indeed.
