Mcmillan do alot at our local hospital, advising people what benifits and help is avalible, and they the most simple and most valuable thing they do imo is give people a symathetic ear. However just like the legion or help the heros, the more we fund them (both decent causes in their own right, well Help the heros is not held in high as regard as it once did), the more the government lean on them.

I spoke to soon about my no cash rule. The hospice that looked after my nan her last weeks, I’ve donated to, however most years they ask for hampers or time, over cash. They are quite well funded from wills apparently.

If we could do an over haul top to bottom of the NHS I’m sure no charity would be needed. However then we would have alot more unemployed, which isn’t good for the economy. Simple facts is, emptying people is cheaper and more beneficial than having them on benefits.

I have a lot of respect to people that do voluntary work, I’d just say don’t do it cos you support what the charity does, first look at how said charity is run, if the two seem fair then go for it. Though few charities in my eyes pass them both.

This was my first year I didn’t by a poppy too, simply cos when a charity is now forced on the country, crucifing people on TV that don’t wear a poppy, I’m out. I have no issue with people saying “I’d don’t support x charity” even if I do. But poppy day is now too much for me.

I’m not the the only one with this view, I often speak to the old guys and girls around November who are selling, and I was amazed many shared my opinion. Though I must admit I must of chucked a tenner in the tins over the periods, as I could not speak to the guys and not donate. I just refused the poppy. Makes me a total hypocrite, as “I don’t give cash to charity”, but there is have the view, then just being an arse in person.

Though I could of just walked past the guys, but I like the stories they love to tell.

I won’t give any to any charity. They are all rackets. Big, small and international, I’m yet to see one that isn’t in it for themselves first and for most.

I don’t have issue with their top employees getting top money, that’s life you want the best person for the roll. But when you actively dig, these charities see such a small fraction of donations reach the ground.

I’d be surprised if 20p of your £7. 50 (cough £10.50) made it to the ground level.

I’ll donate time, I’ll even be a taxi if needed, Ill donate pc time, but I draw the line at cash.

Small charities are the best.most start up for a good reason I’m sure, Ill child,  friend, family, etc, but they soon find there is a good living to be had.

For me they are one step -above- sideways to benifit cheats. They beg for money from the public,  pay almost zero tax, while owning flash cars and having multiple  exotic hols.

I know of a few like this local. One fella I had it out in the local once, he now avoids me.

And the kicker is they say, “I raise money for (incert illness) for a living” thinking they are above the rest. Jog on. Or rather drive on in your £60k bmw

Sadly everything in life is never what it looks. I need to start a charity……

I’m not a fan of charities if you didn’t catch my tone.

I was only Jk Richard, I don’t think the Russians are spying on me, or any state. What would the point be.

Though if I had to bet on who who would be targeting uk civilians, I wouldn’t be putting my chips on Russia or America. As what would their reasons be? I can’t think of one. I can think of a few why a government would want to snoop on thier own thoughts.

One thing I don’t know, where do we stand legally with uk agencies snooping on uk citizens? I know it’s a no no in the USA. It’s rumoured that the uk spy on US citizens that are of interest  to the US, and vice versa. That why it’s kept “legal”. Well by rumoured, it was in the Snowden papers iirc?

I’d take Russian spyware over any uk/eu/us all day. Not that I have anything to hide. I’d rather the one with no jurisdiction to  monitor over me. Not that they would have an exciting job.

By the time I went in, you could get what was called (probably still are) ‘1000mile socks.

They are what you describe, two thin pairs of socks, just sown together, the theory was the two thin socks did the rubbing together. And you’d have the green pusser socks over them.

They did work, even though no amount or protection works when your doing 8hour patrols over wet ground, day after day. Id imagine you was the same bob, some times you’d loose the majority of your nails and over half the skin of the underside and top side of your feet. I use to get it bad where the bottom of the lasses, inner seems would rub the top side of my foot.

Before going out I’d always use a good roll or more of zinc oxide tape, on all the “hot spots”, also I’d tape up my left ankle with medical tape (cheaper than ZO tap) making a solid cast.

In about week 7 of training I tore my ankle ligaments, I thought id fractures it tbh, but the xrays said it was OK. I had the choice to carry on in my troop, or be back trooped setting me back 2 weeks or more. I decided to ‘see how it went’, so I tapped it up for about 4 weeks, and it never properly healed, and from then on I had no faith in it, so I’d tape it rigid. To this day I where high boots the majority of the time, as I feel more relaxed when it’s laced up tight.

Probably should of taken the back troop, had proper time and physio and joined another troop. However I don’t know if I’d of passed out with a new set of lads. By week 7 we had really bonded, and we all (my 8 man section) all fed off each others energy and lack off it sometimes. One day you’d be the one being dragged through by your oppo, the next day you be the one helping.

Re soaps, only non scented was allowed in the field. Was not an issue for me as I’m a special flower, my skin doesn’t like soaps and my noise hates artifical smells. Anything our a can makes my noise burn.

All the kids know they only spay crap in their bedrooms. And if they driving them anywhere they don’t put after shave or perfume on untill I drop them off. Otherwise they don’t get in.

The chemicals in them attack my noise, I get a short headache, but the real issue is, my noise burns inside and I’ll rub it untill it’s raw inside. This has got worse the older I get. (it from my mother).

Also another in I have that arrived about 28 is hayfever. You can’t serve in the marines with it, and id assume the infantry. Around 28 I got it mildly, not knowing what it was. Since then every summer it comes back that much worse.

The body is a strange thing.

I’d bet being on the shorter side never help when Yomping. Speed marching was the one for me, as when Yomping you can take one and half steps compared to other, but speed marching, especially if someone taller was calling the pace, I use to hate it. Not that I think anyone for info it fun.

At least when Yomping you can switch your brain off.

I seen a clip on YouTube a while back of marine recruits Yomping with bead phones in. I remember being Beasted for daring to to pull the neck Scarf over my ears “cos it’s not frigging tactical. How would you hear enemy’s coming”. I don’t answer F-off, they they would her us first if that close. But frigging Earphones listing to music. FFS…..

You will know the neck Scarf come balaclava out of really thin elastic material. Olive of course.

If they are a my thing like my kids, the enemy would hear the music out their ear pods from 1000m in the dark.

The suglu ed speaks of would be perfect to make custom handles. However it would cost some, unless you could get a job lot.

Also you can mold it over and over, by setting it in warm water. (though that may be another similar compound).

They use it on the know how pod(video)cast often.

Probably the same as those jet engine designs, atomic designs and all the other good stuff we bribed the US with to join us in the figjt.

Well without their help they may of helped Germany more.

The computing one to is a mystery. We was way ahead, then just let it stagnate for decades. That was probably in the contract for the US involvement.

I’ve just lost a little respect for you bob. Lol.

Hardly tall myself, 5.8, was 2″ taller untill ones 4 disks decided to evaporate.

Docs reckon my disks was always gonna be an issue, but cos of job choices early on, caring 100lb plus burgers for hours at a time, over weeks at a time, coupled with a fall, and them a 2 year spell landscaping after that, accelerated their demise from a bit 45-50 to 20-25, by 25 my back was f**ked. Given I have 4 gone/damaged/deformed, the docs won’t touch them. I’m waiting for either the tech to advance to swing the probability in my favour, or to be almost chair bound before I even chance the knife.

As it stands the docs won’t touch anymore than 2 disks, unless very rare circumstances are also in play.

Sigh. As my backs got worse, I’ve learnt to live with it, and anticipate it alot more. Its worse now that it’s ever been, hurts like hell every day,  all day, but as Im now uber careful, it’s been a good while since it’s “gone”, probably 4 years now. In the early years, every 4 months I’d have upto 2 weeks ony back.

But now I just refuse to lift anything.

Last Sunday I borrowed the FiL balingo car/van (its the family banger) I got my lads to put the fridge/freezer in the back. When I got to the tip, I opened the iron lung (shipping container) reverse the car in open the boot, slid the fridge out, easily as it’s metal on metal, untill it was pivoted, then accelerated out of the iron lung, leaving the fridge on the floor.

The tip guy looked at me and said, “that’s one way to do it”.

If I thought the need of an 3rd party AV was needed, i wouldn’t be put off at this point.

It stinks of anti Russian propaganda. You’d think the government had an agenda or something…..

Now if they also said, windows could be an issue as USA could take advantage, ios and android too, id be more on side. That’s never going to happen, but what about Iran, that is a hot bed of software production, why are they not highlighting Iranian software. Also some of the more ‘less known’ (to the west) android phones. I can garrentee all smartphones not even the fringe devices are a security risk, far greater than KLs.

I don’t see the problem bed for a 3rd party av, not used on for best part of ten years (probably), and haven’t had any meltdowns. One of the biggest pc cons ever sold. Creating the problem, then unveil the solution. That was MrMcafees greatest con. That and getting away with murder. Allegedly.

That’s great news Chris. I recall us talking about the place about 4 years ago (could of been 10 the way keep time) on mm, at the time they was raising money as it was on the verge of closer iirc.

One of the things I love about France, is its that big with a small population, they never knock anything down. It’s a wealth of old castles (better than any I’ve seen in Wales), nepolionic forts, ww1, 2 and clod war bunkers,  All there,  all funded and cheap to visit.

Iirc  11+ yo wad €5 under 11 free. Was the defacto price, non of this £20 an adult/15 for kids over 5 nonsense we have here, that prices most our of not only a great few hours, but a great few that could change the direction of a kids life.

I do live France, especially the northen half, it’s like Wales, with better weather and cheaper attractions. Just stay clear of Paris. Well like London City, it’s good for two nights max. Then you need to get out and explore.

Mine likes the footy. she comes with me when I go. Luckily we rarely sit together, given how hard it is to get matching pairs. So I don’t need to hear her woman’s screams at the players.

I recon the Lego software will need far more hp than the tablet has.  The 3d space real time rendering can be a bitch. But the interred gpu may be upto it. I really don’t know, it’s not something I do on my laptops.

If he is talking about the new(last year) Lego game, then it’s defo not going to cut it. It runs like crap on most rigs no matter their power. It’s a decent game too. Very pretty and fun.

There is so many gotcha’s doing this. Unless it’s a main steam samsung tablet, the chances of the any real drivers for all the parts is low, very low.

I wouldn’t blindly plug your tablet into that convert software. As I wouldn’t know if safe about safer da are in place. The chances of a bricked android tab is high.

Tell him to return the tablet or sell it on on ebay, etc.. And point him towards the i5 thinkpad many of us have bought (about £130-150 on ebay). Thou I doubt the integrated gpu on them will even be up to the task of Lego software. Though the chances are higher.

You could install the software day one, if it doesnt run return it.

From memory also, Im sure I heard or read accounts from the code breakers, that the signallers would open up each message the same, again out of lazyness.

Iirc days date, and to whichever general was in the area, each would start with (or something like that) . So the crackers would plug in These known knows first,  which could take days of the cracking times.

If you have a known set of say 10 letters, it’s means you could usually make very good guesses at filling in the blanks.

So you could either brake the cypher or break the message. Whichever came first.

As I said from memory, a long one at that. But I do love my WW2 history. Fascinating time.

Go the pound shop by a couple wooden rolling pins,  incert cutlery into one end. Job done. ?
