Ed, the early reports I heard and read said the police believed they knew the identity of the bomber but had asked the press not to report the details as the police were following up the leads as fast as they could. The blood stained yanks published the names.

Next alleged forensic images were supplied to the yanks for some unknown reason, the yanks then sold them to the TV stations.

During my time abroad I lived next to a building used by the yanks as an embassy. Several of us went to the sales and bought photography equipment as we were wont to do.  We went on our roof to try out our purchases at the same time that ‘next door’ was pulling down their flag.

The following day our lunch was interrupted by six crew cut gentlemen who received one word answers to their questions until I decided that it was unfriendly. So I suggested what services we could offer to them should they feel the need. They left rapidly and shortly afterwards they moved their embassy.

Sorry the blathering idiots gave out the name, his travel history and all the details that the investigating police wanted withheld until such time as they had been able to make good on their investigations. Your statement shows why we need to reconsider giving them anything (as has already been threatened), other than false information. Blithering, blathering idiots appears more like praise when considering their totally objectionably  crass behaviour. I do wonder how well it would go down if we were to say publish full details of Trumps itinerary, since we should want to adopt their way and show that when I comes to OUR officials we want to show that ‘but they are only ever on one side – their our own, and they we must play by their different rules.’ After all if we play by the same rules (those for dumb asses), how can they possibly object?

My last dealings with the US officialdom were dealing with official visits by their people to  a foreign state back in 1980s, though I did once make an official diplomatic protest during a meeting in DC. They rolled out someone to come and see me along with a support delegation who kept mum, of course.

I see the Walrus* dance over who did or did not create and push out the worm continues.

It appears it was created by someone or some team but the rest is unknown – in public at least.

*So called after the walrus problem over will you won’t you join the dance from the children’s tale.

Yes Jukebox first guess is PSU but an almost joint favourite is the motherboard, capacitors have been known to fail so that the board or large parts lay down and die.

Steve, I agree with you. I see the entire investigation team are of the same opinion over the USA leaking confidential information while the investigation was at an early stage. Questions about information sharing are  being raised if they cannot stop blabbing.

One can reasonably ask on whose side are the USA playing?

Like all the terrorist movements before it, it will have to be sorted by “political” means (people talking to each other) as nothing else works in either direction. Why are the people who do these things so motivated that they will do them? Insert Islam / Nazi / Catholic Irish / general nutter (Jo Cox) into the equation as much as you like, they all think they have an axe to grind and a cause to espouse.

I am not sure that either talking or ‘political means’ did much to halt past ‘movements’. It certainly did nothing to stop Hitler when Chamberlain came home spouting ‘peace in our time’. The only thing that slowed, (and did not even then obliterate) Nazi beliefs was the defeat and suicide of their deranged leader. Therein lies the crux of the matter. Many ‘movements’ including those with single digit memberships have an element of mental instability lurking at their core. This gets combined with an over whelming feeling that they have been put down/overlooked/disadvantaged which can then make them either ‘pied piper’ type leaders able to draw other misfits in, or ready foot soldiers for so called lone wolf attacks. I see no prospect for negotiation with a band of psychopathic thugs. Their only objective is to glory in the death of as many as possible, including themselves, which they believe results in martyrdom. One famous military leader whose name escapes me said the objective of normal battle is not to die for your cause, but to persuade the other side to get on and die for theirs. Sadly this does not work with those who desire martyrdom.

Public domain items about the bomber suggest that he should have been close to the top of a risk list. Allegedly a frequent traveller, parents had returned to his homeland, possible traumatised by a feeling of displacement, recently showing a marked up tick in public displays of excessive pseudo religious fervor and a vengeful reverence towards the protection and promotion of extremist groups. All of this ‘analysis’/reporting/comment is coming forth after the event so there may well be some embellishment. Intelligence and luck have been valuable in containing previous groups. It is one thing to gather information, it is another to turn it into intelligence and benefit from its use.

Given his background why was the bomber not on a watch list and subject to close examination as he allegedly came and went?

Would I object to such as him being profiled? No I would not. Would I object to such as him being subject to very close covert observation, including all the usual suspect observation methods? No I would not.

I am not in favour of scatter gun sweeps, but I do see merit in holding contact history to allow it to be combed for contacts and threats. If this means anyone who ever had dealings or brief encounters with him needs to be examined, then get on with it now. Civil liberties do not and must not extend to the freedom to kill others for some blood lust, neither should they extend to avoiding prejudicial action against such loony tunes players and quite possibly their supporters.

Civil liberties must extend to the protection of the rights of such as those who died and were injured not to suffer,  but to live normal lives. Frankly that is the only liberty that matters and it was not protected this time.

Bob, you have not upset me! I understand your multiple source of pain and I know how damaging such issues can be. Set several issues in train I can be a monster. I did not want to shade your bigger issues, but our daughter wanted to reduce some of her treatments, it has not been going well. So my wife was finally persuaded to try to contact the consultant – who is on holiday until partway through next month. So what to do, daughter is showing increased issues so that has to be resolved, today she has asked to restore the previous levels so after a management meeting, (just ended) the die has been cast. I have been trying to manage her money, renewing a deposit nothing too spectacular. However, you would think I was sorting out the national debt, so far two formal complaints to the deposit taker and two long phone calls. They changed their system a few weeks ago and it is clear that it ‘could have gone better’. I have what I believe to be a muscle strain at the top of one leg, It can, if it decides to make moving ‘unpleasant’. No falls yet but even the little issues add up. I understand and sympathise with your state of mind, however, in my book you have NOTHING to be sorry about. I praise your measured tones, considered words and wholly (damn it I have lost the word I wanted) statesman like way.

Happily I have never faced what you have faced, perhaps come closer than I would like sometimes, but never the real deal. Close enough to know how it affected those who were in or on the problems. It can do terrible things, that much I have seen. Some never work again, one or two quietly went rather too much 89 pence to the pound.

(The word I wanted above is still hiding in the back of what brain I have left, sorry about that.)

Please carry on as you were, I value your inputs.

One very minor but sometimes irritating quirk is that navigating away from writing a post (even just checking something within Forumite pages) results in all writing progress being lost. Not a major thing as there are many work-arounds, but it was not a default behaviour in MM. A quirk that could easily be ignored. In fact I would not even raise it except there is a keyboard combination (no idea what) that my fat-fingers sometimes hit that results in the same as selecting the browser back-button. If I knew that particular keyboard combo I’d just remap them!

I open a second copy to avoid that issue, that is when I can hit the right keys, which is not always the case.

I’ll stress one last time – I was taking issue for you calling yourself racist. IMO it is totally the wrong word. Race and religion are not the same thing.

I have done a visual and an electronic search but failed to find that word. I know my typing is especially bad at the moment but both reading and typing not finding the reference you were worried about, I am confused and I guess will remain that way.

Not exactly car batteries, but I have at least one sealed type from a vehicle class in the house and have had for the past 25 years – not the same battery! I think this is number 4 or 5.

Ed, If I claimed to be a dusk and swam round naked in a duck ponds protesting for duck liberation, that would not make me a duck. Sadly the Unislamic State lot are rather similar, many from their extreme thug end are hardly of any religion at all, though most are crude criminals, no more no less. I called them psychopaths which is how I see them, so do others. If that is a sect it is news to me. I used the idea of calling myself a duck to show up the silliness of accepting that a nutter doing something on behalf of or in support of some alleged cause while showing little or no relation to that cause is simply a wrong way to deal with them. The fact that I lump them in with such as that odeous Timothy McVeigh should establish that frankly I hold no truck with or belief that they hold any genuine religious, sectarian or racial basis. Any suggestions to the contrary are straight out wrong.

As Bob said the rag tag and bob tail outfit are now claiming it was one of their clutch of personal failures. Perhaps it was, anything that makes them look like a functioning shower tends to get claimed by them. Unverified claims by the dishonest are not proof of much.

ps I have no plan to swim round in a cold duck pond anytime soon ever.

Bob, the fact that you have lived through such events shines through your words, you are one of those who will understand the highly complex thought processes through which many will go and hopefully they will find someone with whom they can open up and help to release their pent up emotions.

I am not sure that any religion really embraces drunken drug takers and petty criminals that much, Least of all those who claim to be devout.

On a lighter note, I had an old chap working for me who used to like his beer and cigarettes. One day he told me he was giving u his beer as he was getting near to Allah .

OK, I said, but does he approve of the cigarettes?

His replay was something along the lines of,

I might be getting closer to Allah, but I am not yet that close!

And now there are reports that ‘anti social media’ is putting up false reports of missing children culling images from across the world to stir the pot a little more.

Bob, I made the error of reading one account from a homeless person who normally tried to collect from those leaving a performance, wrong time wrong place. Another poor person who will have another pressure for him to live with in his mind.

You can see the lowest of the low, a hoax warnings caught out as post event fabrications due to time zone issues.

Steve, I agree that it was fortunately lowish number, but for those affected it was a 100% result. If it was a suicide vest type they may have misfired, not set it off correctly been too close to something that blast protected others and so on. It is unlikely to have been a grenade, they are not easy to come by, but if he (was it even a he?) was unsure or worried they might have held whatever close to their chest anyway. You must know, explosives are strange things with queer blast paths that can do the oddest things. Too much conspiracy and theory is creeping in, it is time to stop.

Personally I use the term UnIslamic and my other favourite Psychopaths for the Devil as interchangeable terms, the latter can also cover such as Timothy McVeigh. The talk I heard today was that the Psychopaths club were crowing on so called social media about killing kids.

Well the callback was useless. A conversation with a new doctor who has a very thick Middle eastern accent and really has no clue about my condition.

I did referred to the Unislamic State psychopaths. This was based on reports of anti social media crowing by some claiming to belong to that group. Now if you feel calling something ‘un’ means throwing dirt at the real form: well we disagree. I am aware that the language is constantly being modified and bizarre ways, perhaps is should say pray tell me does the prefix ‘un’ now mean definitely is?

The fact that most of the previous atrocity performers have been found to be suffering from serious mental health issues and to have lived a previously far from blameless life, adds weight to my side of the statement. One point at possible issues is whether they were always psychopaths or somehow modified as such is an open question.

I am also aware of the Hillsborough and other crimes by senior staff who sought to shovel blame away from them, I find it an unacceptable though fashionable slur (indeed close to the original abuses) to use it as a justification for lauding at best unverified possibly dodgy reports from overseas sources. In any case what difference does unseemly speed make? Would an early possibly wrong report resuscitate the dead and repair the injured?

If you feel that lessons will not have been learned from that very sordid past businesses where the truth has finally been drawn out I am very surprised. However, to start with police and other official bodies were involved with the historic messes for which accounts had been fabricated, put crudely they had a dog in the fight.

I am totally unable to see any such angle to this case or are you suggesting that the bomber was somehow connected to an official source?

I realise that this is the age of phacts and dumb conspiracy theories, but to hint that any and all delays in clarifying details suggests a cover up brings odium upon the proposer. I have read Bob’s moving account. Most of those officially connected would have been in Bob’s situation and, like Bob, will pay the possibly heavy future price. Very few if any  had either the time, need or inclination to cook up a story and I find that a damaging and hurtful implied slur.
