There’s loads of options Les. If Dan’s isn’t suitable we’ll soon spec something in a small enclosure.

Clearly I don’t agree with your view, leave it at that. You are not going convince me that leaving is anything other than bad and vice versa.

If you believe in leave by any means and you don’t care about any consequences then just shut your eyes, stick your fingers in your ears and ignore anything to the contrary. If you don’t then you need to start asking how things like the Irish border will be resolved.

It cannot have any borders it wants by the rules of the World Trade Organisation and neither can we. The Swiss are part of the single market and must abide by the appropriate rules. Rules which we want to reject. Fair enough but you have to take what goes with it. You cannot just stick up 2 fingers and say we ain’t gonna do that.

Between the EU and Macedonia is a proper old fashioned border. My kids were woken at 2 am by border guards on the train who took their passports away for checking and stamping.

The world ticks along using certain international conventions that only pariah states ignore. If you want a trade relationship with others then some way of behaving must be observed, by both parties.

A case I’ve used a lot is the Cooler Master Elite 130 Mini ITX Case, it’s a bit wider and deeper than the Shuttle but the same height. This allows it to use a normal ATX PSU, but I tend to get semi-modular ones to cut down on cable clutter.

It also has room for some proper cooling and I find the included front 120mm is enough for what we’re talking about, but there is a rear side 80mm included too (aimed at the mobo expansion slots).

Under WTO rules there has to be something. Have a look at this article C4 News fact check, not the BBC ?

“Any approach which does not involved the UK remaining within the EU Single Market and the EU Customs Union will result in the imposition of some physical border controls because the legal guarantees of regulatory equivalence, mutual recognition, and non-barriers will require checks.”

It’s not just the monetary side i.e. tariffs, but that’s all your hear about.

“the EU’s existence as a free trade area depends on its ability to demonstrate to the WTO that it can control its external borders properly.”

You don’t hear about that one either when the WTO is mentioned.

                  A one way border?

“under WTO rules, unless you’re in a free trade bloc like the EU or NAFTA, you have to obey the “most favoured nation” rule. That means if you lower trade tariffs for one trading partner, you have to lower tariffs to all your other partners.”

There’s loads more in the article, including borders in the Irish Sea and we’ll have zero tariffs (the Wetherspoon Mainfesto). Just saying we won’t put up a border so why should they? is just fantasy land under any scenario.

I’m on an extremely slow mobile network all week and just looking at the Forum in a free 5 mins. I think £100 is way too much, I think we could do new case / mobo / psu for that sort of money or not much more. The performance difference between the Haswells and the new CPUs is more than trivial, you can get extra cores too.

Most landlords I know leave it to the tenants to get their own. Where I have done something similar is on shared sites, like the family farm in Cornwall, or where the buildings are all owned by the same business.

On the farm my cousin rents out her barn conversion in the summer so there is a Guest network that is isolated, no need to worry about emmets printing. Another cousin runs a motor repair shop from another barn, so I’ve made sure his business PC is properly firewalled. I could have provided him with a Ubiquiti airCube ACB-ISP AP to create his own isolated network in his office as coverage wouldn’t be an issue.

Someone objects to every plan that’s been devised and they can all bring the Govt down. The DUP can’t even work out how to govern in their own jurisdiction. Clearly they are just obsessed with their own views and to hell with what they are there for, to administer for the good of their constituents.

I think this is called posturing and negotiation. If you jump on every little thing as good or bad you’re probably wasting your time.

I think the time has come to let them get on with it and see what comes out, the potential red lines on all sides are now well known. There’s a lot of suicidal crap coming out of the DUP amongst others about sabotaging a vote. Suits me, bring the General Election on asap and let’s get it sorted one way or the other.

One thing’s for sure we cannot carry on as we are with one side or the other holding the county to ransom for their own ends. Ironically most of it seems to be Leave vs Leave and not Leave vs Remain. Of course their conflicting aims are exactly what was voted for and the “will of the people”. It reminds me of God being on all sides in a war according to the priests of that faction.

Banging my own drum here, but you’re right, this is the job for a professional and needs a proper site survey. I’m sure the GDPR implications will be totally lost too. Probably a risk that could be taken, but for the modest extra cost must be worth getting yourself protected as modest doesn’t begin to describe the potential fines.

One thing I will tell you is that every similar one I’ve done so far costs less than 3 separate BB connections. You always need to look at costs of ownership vs upfront; there’s a reason why Wilkinson Sword does razors cheap and blades expensive ?

If he wants it done properly let me know.

It’s not a site or browser issue as nobody else suffers from it. Yet all your machines and all their browsers do, so logic says it seems to be something at your end.

Are you using a proxy server?

I’m in the situation that I have a spare 120GB following an upgrade for a customer to a 512GB. He didn’t even ask about having the 120 back and he is tech savvy. Must have known I’d say it’s only worth a fiver second hand ? Give it a couple of weeks just in case Richard and I’ll send it on.

Now it’s cheap, my entry level is 240Gb as 99% of people can live with that and do no housekeeping whatsoever for the lifetime of their device. God knows why I upgraded to 512Gb myself, I must have succumbed to Contagious Butleritis ?

Welcome to the last week of my life. It’s the Navy job next week, in a building we’ve done before and know the major PM players, but we’ve been hit with new CPR Ethernet cable regulations and what the MoD have decided is the spec they want.

A new Euro wide specification came out last year, but that’s just to define what things like LSZH really mean, it’s up to each country to decide what spec will apply where. Westminster ducked the issue but the BSI have decided what a “standard” should be and the MoD have gone with that. They did go one level higher until they found that no-one was making fibre to that standard yet! We also have to use metal ties where cables aren’t in trays. Fair enough, I can see the sense, but don’t tell us with only days to go. Then there’s the haggling over who picks up the extra (not inconsiderable) cost.

I won’t go into the moving of the location of equipment due to another project’s impact that had just been noticed and the speccing, sourcing and more haggling over the cost and implications of the extra kit needed. Only to be told this morning just 2 hours before my drop dead time for getting that kit that we were back to Plan A. ?

I just remembered why we drink so heavily in the evenings when on M0D work ?

It’s not just the Govt, I was approached last week to see if I could do an urgent job at Wembley stadium today (and could I be available on Sunday if needed), putting in a wireless link to a trailer in one of the car parks. Drop dead date for that was Tuesday noon and the contractors I would have been working to had heard nothing from Wembley. On Friday it was all can you guarantee this and that, yes no problem, move work around to accommodate their dates, then nothing…

I also found out that the design I did for a large project had been given to another outfit to implement. Now I know how Wickes kitchen designers feel ?

Yep, there’s always a way even if it’s with an external WiFi Building to Building link!
