Could well be John. These smaller companies (and some large ones like HP and Lenovo) don’t manufacture their own hardware.
When I discovered what some Lenovo SSDs actually were I stopped worrying about buying lesser known brands.
I quite liked the red scheme. I thought Steve may have bribed you.
If it’s an Amazon bargain (probably was) I’ll bet it’s a KingDian. That would tally with Boris’s find.
The other not-a-big-name that I’ve bought are Drevo X1 but IIRC they are obvious.
Worse things happen at sea.
June 14, 2019 at 7:51 pm in reply to: Has anyone else been offered the Windows 10 May 2019 Update ? #34147Just finished, but was able to work for about half the time before electing to restart. It’s a biggie all right.

Just started the process on this laptop.
That’s what I wondered, unless it’s capable of streaming? There are some satellite receivers I know of that can do this.
My bank – Santander – only has 2 branches in the Greater Bristol area. Lloyds have 10, Natwest have 10, HSBC 6. This is up to 6 miles out of the centre to include all the suburbs.
Night safes are not an option for most small businesses, there aren’t any close enough. Cash and cheques aren’t wanted.
It’s in the spares box, but it’s from the last Athlon II I had out there. Might as well be in yours.
PM me your address, should only be a quid postage.
It’s an Athlon II X3 450 3.2Ghz ADX450WFK32GM Specs here
Moving the fab to TSMC has been a winner. I’m not sure how the many cores strategy works out when it’s not really coded for.
I’ve had 6 and 8 core CPUs for a while and most of the time anything over 4 is parked. But I couldn’t run 4 x decent spec W10 VMs and host on a £60 CPU from Intel!
I recently got paid in cash and as my bank is miles away I thought I’d use the folding stuff for a change. What a PITA! The pocket full of shrapnel is the worst bit.
The last bank has left Padstow and taken the last ATM with it. Lots of shops will not now accept cash as the nearest bank is a 16 mile round trip away in Wadebridge.
Our new Metro bus is an electronic payment only service and the ticket must be bought before you board. Either from a ticket point at the stop or a phone app. The phone app tickets work on all First services and most passengers use it now. When someone gets on, hasn’t even got their purse out of the Tardis handbag and then counts out the fare in 5 and 10 pence pieces it’s damned annoying!
Think I may have an X3 here. I’ll have a look later.
EaseUs is much better at handling the images than Windows, plus it’s compression is excellent.
I got a good deal on O&O DiskImage Pro last weekend (sale: £15 for 5 licences) for use at the charity. Very powerful but bloody hell it’s fiddly after EaseUs. There is a point and shoot interface for one off jobs as well though.
The easiest is Synology Active Backup for Business, but you need an Intel CPU Synology. For business PCs it’s the dogs doodahs for manageability and the data deduplication has to be seen to be believed. That’s all down to the BTRFS file system on the NAS.
You see this is why we can’t have a general discussion. You will insist on taking a “robust” position and then claim others are taking an opposing one so you can have an argument with them. You can then crow when things turn out your way or ignore it if they don’t.
The point being made was that politicians should be held into account in some way and at least it’s started. The High Court were asked for clarification from a more junior one, they have given their answer.
There seems little point in having a general chin wag about what could happen next as it will only be turned into an opportunity for confrontation.
The other factor I’ve noticed is that hardware (especially the cheaper end) has overtaken the needs of Windows and it’s being run on machines up to the job. The sub £250 laptop market still quickly run out of steam but they are at least up to the basic tasks of social media, email and a document or two. But just £50 more gets you the amazing HP 255 G7 Ryzen 3.
I’ll second that. Choose the Windows disk, I’ve yet to have it create a workable Linux one. It’s very slick with EaseUs Recovery baked in.
I use it for “cloning” disks which I believe Boris does too. Backup, old disk out, new disk in, boot from USB and restore. Much more reliable results.
Of course streaming films with an absolute length (so can be buffered) is different to streaming a never ending feed. It’s also not a constant speed but when reference frames go through. And it’s a different protocol with different processing needs. But apart from that ? Virgin’s claims are clearly bollocks.
It will be interesting to see how 5G will change things, but it won’t be quick. Look how long 4G has taken to mature. In 5 years though we may well be getting our BB over the air and that will provide a different challenge in the location of key pieces of kit, like routers. No longer will it be in the hall or some random ground floor location favoured by the house builders.
Perversely it may well change WiFi distribution in the house for the better as you’ll probably want your router upstairs to get the best signal as 5G penetration is poor for the highest speeds.
Rule of thumb from the CCTV world, H264 FullHd @25 fps = 4.5mbps max.
