I am never sure about these “guaranteed” speeds, marketing fluff I think.
It meant something with ADSL but all fibre? Maybe it gives them some headroom if they have to take bits of kit offline increasing contention.
I could only imagine it was some strange frequency for 4G but it isn’t – see here All supported I would think?
Good luck Bob.
I have a copy installed, but to be honest I looked at it, shrugged my shoulders and forgot about it.
Me too. I thought it may be a good way to run the Hik Connect CCTV app on a PC as the PC app is a full blown VMS affair. It’s proved far easier to just run things on my android tablet or the iPad and move clips to my server via a Synology file app.
Not had any issues yet on 20 ish PCs of all sorts.
OK, you want a dome or (preferably) a turret camera. A 2.8mm lens gives a coverage of 114° which would be great if you didn’t have those bay windows!
If you had two either side of the door, to cover the door you’d need to tilt them down so much you’d lose the horizontal coverage. Best things is PM me your address so I can look it up on google maps to get a vertical view which I can then put into my 3D planning software.
That will show us the view that can be had from various camera placements and orientation. I can stick a couple of cars and people in there too. On the side I’d probably go for a white light camera (rather than infra-red) so it can act as a security light too. White light on the front would probably drive you nuts.
Wiring is pretty simple, just Ethernet and crimped ends, I’d go back to a 4 port PoE switch in the loft. The question then is how to get it to the internet, wireless is an option if an Ethernet cable can’t be used. Plus of course you need power in the loft, but the demands are so low (max 7.w per camera) that we often take them off the lighting circuit.
Recording would be by an internal SD card accessed through a mobile app and / or a PC / Mac.
+1
Seems to be fine, let me try writing enough crap to get over the end of the line and see if word wrapping is working OK.
It is :yahoo:
I’m pretty certain it isn’t but the Timewatch series is very good. It may have been part of a longer series on Chivalry? I’ll see if I can find it but it didn’t have the action scenes in like the beeb have done.
There was a documentary on recently, may have been PBS, about him. He ended up with Chepstow and Pembroke Castles through marriage.
Must have had some balls because he faced down Richard the Lionheart when fighting for his father and lived to tell the tale. But then Richard wasn’t daft and needed someone of that military stature when he got the crown and intended to go a’Crusading.
Quite a bloke. On my laptop @133 x 766. Editing is shifted to the right. I am being very careful here how far I type!
If I type beyond the right edge of the screen everything gets shifted right so that the submit button disappears i.e. the whole editing area has shifted.
If I start a new post and paste in the text its still shifted but the word wrapping
doesn’t cause the same issue as typing as you can see.

Inserting a picture takes 2 clicks of the OK button.
Ah, ye olde WTF is Windows telling me? I look upon it all as a clue as to what’s happening rather than any cast iron reality.
It’s a full VM, haven’t played with docker yet. It’s so light on resources you don’t know it’s there.
I have a 218+ now and yes you could build an itx system for that money but getting it working like a Synology? and maintaining it? That’s why I abandoned such things and let Synology do all the hard work. That doesn’t stop me looking at things like open media vault, then I think nah. Leave it alone.
I now run PiHole in a linux VM on the 218+ so the Pi is now spare (I upgraded the ram to 10GB with a single 8GB sodimm). Synology Drive seems to work a lot better than Cloud Station did and I much prefer Moments to Photo Station. The faces / places / scenery sorting works well and is much less of a toy than I thought it would be.
I installed my first customers 218+ last week and on the business side they’re using Synology Drive and Active Backup for Business on the PCs and the VPN server . The family are using all the media apps as well as private and shared storage. All backed up to via C2 and of course it’s all encrypted.
I really wouldn’t want to support something I’d put together myself 😀
Might have a look for my VM “server”.
You have a Synology!
“boneless chicken thigh, egg noodles and peas”
I have that most Monday nights (the Mrs running club night so individual meals) in a stir fry. A little rapeseed oil for the frying and a sachet of stir fry sauce. Ring the changes with the sauce. Yum.
I don’t know if you’re allowed the sauce sachets but a bit of soy sauce and some ginger and garlic paste is pretty good (I’d normally put some chilli in that too).
You’ll get plenty of advice but there’s no way of knowing what sort of child is coming your way nor how it may affect you both (post natal depression is no fun and can be hard to spot). But overall it’s great fun, especially Christmas time.
They’re doing the same thing with CCTV for the same reasons. Don’t tell me that any military CCTV is in any way connected to the internet!
Rural life is very different and not what BoJo is on about. They want office workers back in city centres spending money on coffee and food, shopping in lunch hour etc..
The council run long stay car parks are £12 for >4 hours, some do a £216 for a pack of 20 deal or £2,496 annual pass. Sort stay are £4 for 2 hours maximum, but some do have the same annual pass option.
There are 4 Park & Ride sites on the outskirts open 6:15 to 21:15 Free parking and the normal First Bus fare of £4.50 a day, £18.90 a week, £72.60 a month or £715 a year.
There are several “Metro” bus routes now with express lanes (until they get into the centre) and enhanced frequencies, same prices. However most buses are arterial routes, going cross town is very difficult and usually quicker going in and out if there is a Metro route.
The larger commuter towns, Portishead, Clevedon, Yate, Nailsea etc have express routes, especially at rush hour, and the prices are a little more. Some have rail options too, but Temple Meads is some way off of Bristol centre.
So, from the view of a Bristol office commuter, are you going to use your car? Especially as you probably have a bus pass already. But how will you get on with a covid restricted bus service running at 25% capacity? The buses are full at rush hour time with some routes having extra buses.
They just don’t think any of this through.
