Bob, thanks for the good wishes.
Steve, because of the arthritis any infection should show up, it’s a core part of the monitoring because of the disease modifying drugs I’m on. I’m seeing the consultant in about a month so he might be able to explain things a bit more.
Yesterday was a bad day.
Since Wednesday I wasn’t feeling right but I get that a lot so didn’t make much of it. Thursday morning I felt a lump on my arse cheek. Thursday afternoon it started to hurt. By then my car was snowed in and nobody could have got to me except for a 4×4 with winter tyres or maybe a husky dog sled team.
Called the Docs and was given advice, call 999 if gets worse, keep it clean, wash hands thoroughly, usual stuff.
Yesterday by about 10 am it was agony. Called the NHS Direct number and they got a doc to call back in about 40 minutes. After a bit of a chat he said it was probably a cyst. Repeated the same advice.
About 7pm I’d just sat down to drop some friends of at the pool and I heard a ‘pop’. Of course I almost literally sh*t myself. Blood and pus everywhere in the bowl.
No chance of getting the car out to see a doctor, no paramedics available so it was a 12 pairs of kecks night. Luckily I hoard stuff so had about 5 years worth of unworn christmas present kecks.
Finally got to see a GP tonight and it’s an abscess. It’s been drained again and I have antibiotics. Have to see the surgery nurse for advice how to look after it while it heals.
The worst bit is I had blood tests done on Tuesday, have them every 4-6 weeks because of my medication, got the results yesterday and all was better than should be. Which is usual for me, but I have an infection that must have been in my system since at least Monday apparently.
Baffling medical science one again.
Raining a lot now.
Thing is the lazy arses in my cul de sac don’t understand that the snow still has a crust on it, which means if you haven’t broken that crust up the snow will not thaw anywhere near as quick as if you have. I’m the only one with a clear path and a car that has moved.
I managed to ‘dig’ my car out by using my crutches, a broom, the rain and my quite recent acquisition of a pair of 5 10 mountain bike shoes. The shoes are amazing, grip like limpets, really warm, built like builders boots but they are BIG. Got mine for £50 on sale at Go Outdoors.
Managed to get out after some snow moving, not as bad as I thought but getting back into my spot was a nightmare as some idiot neighbour had dug their car out and instead of putting the snow in a sensible place had just dumped it where I’d cleared a path for my car. There is now a wall of snow around their spot. ?
Just been to remove the top layer of frozen snow from the car, came off in big sheets once I got underneath it. Side windows almost completely clear with little effort, rear windscreen is totally clear with one tap.
Front windscreen only has the last ice layer. Biggest problem is foot or more of still frozen snow surrounding the car, that could take a while.
Warmer here today, everything is very slowly melting.
I can’t wait to get out, I’m getting cabin fever!!!
It’s getting damn cold again here now, no snow at the moment but plenty more forecast for the evening through to the early hours.
Bloke opposite is clearing his car, in all honesty he’s not clearing it yet. That’ll take a while.
Dave, your car looks to be in a similar state to mine, it had snow, then ice and now more snow on top. The side windows have about 2 cm of ice on them.
Even if it warms up a bit tomorrow it’s going to take an age to thaw it out.
John, I was staggered. I thought they were probably checking the road conditions (they may well have been doing that as well).
I’m only about 2 miles or so from City Hall so that’s probably a factor, I can’t see them checking everyone in the City and County of Cardiff!
The snow is back with a vengeance. Most of the footprints made by people have dissapeared.
I was outside just now and saw a council 4 wheel drive double cab pickup heading my way. I then had a phone call, it was the council vehicle checking if I was OK!!! I’m guessing they are checking on Blue Badge holders in the area.
I can hear traffic on the main road about 100-150m behind my car, not a lot but enough to hear from time to time.
As you said, it’s getting to the main road.
An Octavia Scout Paramedic vehicle is the only thing I’ve seen moving on the estate today.
I could do with seeing a doctor/pharmacist but there’s no way my car is getting out today. There is frozen snow around the 3 vehicles parked on the road, mine is in the middle.
Have to wait until tomorrow and see what it’s like.

I see 1,001 so that must be for mods and above.
The snow here is frozen pretty good, there’s about a 1cm ‘crust’ that’s hard, I couldn’t punch through it with my right shoe but that’s my knackered hip side. Even using a crutch it’s pretty solid.
That’s going to catch lots of people out.
And more on the way apparently.
The bus driver can clearly drive way better than the dumb arse in the other motor, looks like one of the MINI things.
Can’t be sure but it looks the bus driver does the old classic of steering into the slide and powering through. Fair play to him/her. Give them the keys to the idiots motor for probably saving them a lot of pain and possibly money.
It’s clear that the MINI driver has no clue how to drive in snow, I’d fine them £60. A week. For 30 years. I think that’s reasonable.
It’s starting to get serious here. About 3″ deep but some places that I can see from my front porch is probably nearer 6″.
The mini roundabout about 40 meters from my house is quickly disappearing. Just seen some idiot in what I think was a Toyota Aygo go into the roundabout far to quick, start to slide and jam on the brakes. Near perfect 270 to ruined front tyre/wheel. Just drove around the roundabout and carried on. Didn’t even look at the front end.
That has to be referencing the Aberfan disaster.
How about a self powered stove fan?
Yes Dave, just had the warning myself.
Just got back from Aldi, main routes are totally fine, evidence of heavy gritting and most people are being sensible. It wasn’t that cold earlier but my car now says -4 and the wind chill is immense, I had 2 long sleeve t-shirts, a thick hoodie and my heavy Dickies jacket with a removable fleece and I could feel the wind through all that.
Dave, did you get my PM?
