dwynnehugh – yes, checked RAM using the windows repair disc facility

      Dave – Will do

Jason – Its pre Toshiba I suspect.  I have been thinking of getting a new SSD for some months (I posed a question on the good old MM forum)  so I think I will try a new one.  Would it be foolish to copy over the OS?  Probably I think.

Thanks to all for your advice and guidance

Thanks all.  I will make a note and tactfully slip them into the conversation next time I am at the Doc’s for my next begging session.  From what you and others say all the talk about pain management is baloney.  There is very little for nerve pain other than anasthesia.

What sort of painkillers are you folk on.

I am just getting over my second major spine op (first one 30 years ago) when the specialist put me on Voltarol (Diclofenac) – 3 a day if I remember.  That kept me in fine fettle until about twelve years ago when without warning they were replaced with something else – I cannot remember what.  The  very next day we were going away for a long weekend and within 24 hours I was limited to about 300 yards walking before I needed to find a wall or a seat or a lamp-post. The day after we got back I went back to Diclofenac but only one per day.  Then my doctor died and I got a new young efficient doctor who insisted I start the “trial and fail” to find one that worked.  None did. Then came the second op and the consultant put me back on Diclofenac.  But it took much begging to get the Doc to give me a repeat prescription and then only one per day.  None of the different drugs had any real effect.

Like I said to the Doc, at my age comfort is more important than longevity so any suggestions that really work, let me know and I can tactfully suggest to the Doc that perhaps I could try one or other.

The difference between the healers and the cutters is unbelievable.  The specialist was focused on relieving my problem even if if risked dying on the table. The Doc is focused on making sure I do not die, even if that means living in agony.

So, suggestions if you will 🙂

Thanks both.  I think I found the problem.  I had only ticked “copy new files only” so modified files were being ignored.  Now it copies<span style=”text-decoration: underline;”> all</span> changed files whether new or modified.  Strictly speaking the result is a bit dodgy to use as an archive because files “in error” (ie modified unintentionally) will get copied and overwrite the original backup.  Still, with a bit of care I should be OK and if everything goes TU then I can smartly whip out the USB lead and stop mass transfers  .

Solved the  Mailwasher problem – or a work around at least.  Just have to run them in the right order, but this does not stop eM checking for itself at frequent intervals.  now to try Opera and possibly Windows Mail

                  Hi RGB

                  Thanks for your input.

Perhaps TBird is not entirely to blame but I think it is cross linked somewhere.  Installed eM earlier and spent a couple of hours getting to grips with it and so far it goes like a train (HST variety) so for some reason TBird trips itself up where eM doesn’t.  There are one or two things I have not sussed yet eg I cannot stop it uploading messages to me until asked which in turn means mailwasher (my spam detector) is no uses anymore.  I think I will give Opera a go next.

                  Thanks again

Sorry Ed it does not work for me.  I have now got access but not very reliable.  Sometimes I  have to exit TBird then restart it and it works perfectly.  Sometimes it hangs trying to get access to BT then succeeds.  I will try another Version of TBird but I do not expect much success. I have tried MSoft System Repair and Chkdsk.  These usually return rubbish files which suggests something is a recurrent problem.  I have run virus checkers. I might just see if I still have a vacant spinner around and load the OS onto that.  No reason why that should work because we have the problem on four machines including a tablet and two email accounts.  All of which seems to rule out SSD problem, HDD problem, Internet problem, Software problem, Virus Problem, cable problems, overheating problems.  I could, of course, try a different email client and in the final solution reinstal W7, but I do not think that will improve matters either.

Of course, the final final attempt might be to stick my W10 disc back in and try that.

                    Ain’t life fun!!!

Hi Ed.  When you say you log in to BT do you mean you log n to your email account at BT then return to TBird, or do you just use the onlineBT Account?  Have you found a permanent cure?

Thanks Wasbit.  I use Easeus Free Edition which seems to do the job.  Previously I used Acronis True Image for many many years, but the latest version seems too complicated for my aging brain cells

Alan – thanks but I have never had any joy with BT Help.  If I can ever get a voice they send my blood pressure soaring, my heart racing and my temper flailing about madly.

Ed. – I have been using TBird for years without any problem.  Not sure why it should arise just now?

Came to the conclusion it was something wrong with the OS so fell back on a clone of happier days.  Trouble was it was about six months old so I had a bit of updating to do. More an inconvenience than anything else.  Anyway so far so good if that is not tempting fate.

Cloning is something that does not seem to get much press.  Plenty of advice round on data security and back-ups but seldom any mention of simply cloning the whole shooting match.  It is simple, quick and requires no brain power.  It took eight mins to restore, about an hour to bring up to date, and then five mins to make a new clone.  So lets have a big shout for CLONING
