Dave, it may seem like that, but in fact it is a member of his family who has possible symptoms, hence the 14 days all around.

Edp, Yes, Boris IS in a highish  % zone, but I suspect it is significantly better than 50/50. I would guess his risk of a worst outcome is 5 to 20%. But at the end of the day, how does your cookie crumble, or something like that.

Here on the island, confirmed infections 150, still only one death attributed to CV19.

Last week (Saturday?) I tried to post here, but that was when the “can’t sign in” problem happened. A couple of days later i (THOUGHT) I had posted, but it never appeared. I will repost it in a few moments. If anybody bothers to read it, any statistics I mentioned regarding Island cases is well out of date now.

Bob, I thought you had timed this hospital holiday so that your good lady would be ranting at all the youing ones as to where stuff should go, and you would prolong it until your personal space was suitable computerised. But it seems there is still work to do!

Unlike all the others here, I realised you meant BILE duck, and that PER was your substitute for PEE.

        Keep grumbling!

JayCeeDee, it seems that it is CANCELLED. I don’t think it could be run instead of the MGP end of August.

It seems my last statistic was wrong. That was an early day number. It was 3 not 1. Today, once more 3 again, but maybe more later. Currently total is 32, 30 self isolating at home.

A local woman is reported as blogging about her infection. whilst self isolating at home. It seems both she and her husband caught a dose at Cheltenham. Serves them b****y well right.

Walked to butchers, got bacon, still no delivery of the cow tongue we ordered. Stopped at pharmacy, so our basic medicines are now OK for 56 days. Will go and stack the last batch of logs in a few minutes. Did I mention those?

Interesting times. I went to the supermarket this morning, but first via the bread and cake shop in peel. Closed, so no vanilla slice for me, and no bread for many peel residents. At the supermarket, lines on floor to keep us apart, with controls on who enters, but straight in for me. I got most of what i wanted, no local bacon so will walk to our village butcher tomorrow. I noticed little or no rice or pasta. The bread flour was now marked “1 per customer”, so I guess the closing of the small shop has everybody baking. I wanted frozen green beans, but none. Bog rolls, Shelves full and nobody filling his/her trolley.

As from the 1:30 am boat from Heysham this morning, NOBODY allowed on the island, not even stranded residents.Current visitors may leave. We have been steadily locking down and today somebody decided on a temporary (it had better be) 40 mph speed limit. We have had ones, twos and even three new cases daily. Only one today. Are we over the hump here? We are still contact tracing, in view of small numbers and population. It occurs to me that we could be clear in a couple of weeks. Will we remain cut off for the whole summer? Of will there be a massive increase later?

I will keep my fingers crossed.

Well, Edp, you obviously you did not bring it, but the island’s first case was confirmed yesterday. Recently returned from Spain.

And our first NOT “self isolated” idiot is now locked up!

When the UK introduces draconian measures, the Manx Gov. promptly doubles them, and Joe twitter Public is encouraged to “dob in” any miscreants. Not sure if first “lock up” was dobbed in or not.

I shall be out with (a few of) my Saturday bike group, but it will be ‘bikes only for a short coffee free open air meeting.

With the predicted strong east wind, and down overlooking “The Chasms”, we should be able to watch the Choughs, maybe the Ravens, then go home with stinking colds!

A couple of times we had a BRICK loaf, usually with dodgy yeast or wholemeal flour.

However, most of our loaves try to climb out of the pan! There is a flap which falls to deposit any fruit or other additives. It does not retract, and most loaves have a line on top where they rose up to it during final bake.

I have had a couple of times when the power went off, maybe just after the start of the bake cycle. I extracted the remains, into the Rayburn, and excellent loaf. Like many failures, it lead me to my personal design of bread maker. Now it I had the computing skills, the Micom would be replaced to give a MUCH BETTER loaf, which could use even less yeast than currently.

My notes are all there in my BREAD folder.

Edp, yes, we do have such a service and I will likely sign up in due course.

We have three supermarkets over here. Tescos, Douglas, to far. (but maybe their delivery service later), the Co-op, generally best pricing and good fruit and Shoprite, who used to stock Iceland (Ugh!) and Waitrose, but now transferring to Sainsbury as well as loads of local produce (Milk, Flour, Meat etc.); their fruit all comes from local company “Robinsons”, who are increasing their home delivery service. If other methods fail, they will get a big standing order.

Of course, that would mean Tescos paid delivery for other stuff, if things get difficult.

Today we went for “Walk and Talk”, but had coffee  (from a flask)  and biscuits in the car. Next to the Co-op, with Tamara going in on her own whilst I went for grass seed.

Whilst I was sitting in the car waiting for her, a local character, Wilf came out. He stopped and we chatted. “I am waiting for the Courier” he said. (The Courier is our local free paper, out on a Friday) Why the Courier? “So I can wipe my arse again, there is no paper in there”.

When Tamara came out, she did not have enough apples, Bananas or Yoghurt as Co-op had a Max limit of 2 for any item. We get those three from Co-op to last one week. Whilst she loaded the car, I went in and got the missing items.

It seems that very shortly, our Gov is intending that all pregnant women, those with health issues, and ALL THOSE OVER 70 will have to self isolate. Stay in house, garden, shed or greenhouse, but not out on the road. The road past my cottage usually has NO VEHICLES, apart from UK trail bikes at the weekends, but not now of course. I shall not like that. Will probably still go up the road on the JCB to collect some logs I paid for!

Oldles certainly does make his own bread. However, it is wholemeal, not white.

We use an oldish Panasonic. and i think they are about the best machines. OK, I have only tried machines (often unmarked) acquired at the amenity site, at least four other makes, and so far the Panasonic is best.

Edp is correct about salt doing its best to kill yeast, but having said that, I have tried separating the two asEdp says, but find no difference to when Tamara makes it, and I can not influence how she does it.

You must use strong bread flour. We used flour from our local millers (Laxey Mills), which uses Manx cereals (wheat) only. If we get big seasonal variations, the “rise” varies. About two years ago, there was a sudden deterioration in the loaf’s rise. I rang the mills, and it seemed they had changed the bran content from about 8% to around 11%. I had a chat with the baker at a local bread and cake shop, and he said he used very little of their wholemeal, and that the best flour was from Canada, and he gave me about a kilogram to try. Big difference. For my own interest, I wrote a report, which measurements of the loaf height, and photos. i decided to send a copy to Laxey mills, but contacts were blocked by a now out of date”Captcha” system, so they never got it. We then tried wholemeal flour from M&S, very good. More recently we tried the Laxey product again, and it was very good, so we only use that now.

If I wanted white bread, I would change to 100% strong white, and probably halve my yeast content.

On the topic of not using a machine, I tried a different method whilst Tamara was away. She thought it was stupid, when we had a machine to do everything for us. I did a “normal ” mix, loaded it into the bread machine, and let it run, until it had dropped in the fruit, then stirred that in. I then switched off, removed the dough and divided it into three lots. Each lot went into a small bread tin, and was stood on the rack above the Rayburn to rise, usually about one hour. When risen sufficiently, transferred to the oven at around 300 F (150C), and again one hour gave three small loaves. Two in freezer, one to eat directly.

I will attach a copy of my recipe, and anybody wanting my “report” can ask.

                          Stop Press. STOP PRESS!

Lee, Planeman, when I tried to download the film earlier, it deposited a file on desktop, which I checked a few times but it never changed its size (under properties), so I assumed it was just the single first page.

I was about to delete it, but checked properties first. 1.2GB. It had downloaded entirely. I opened it, full sized it, saw the start, went to middle, then end. ALL THERE!

Not sure which did it, p[ossibly PM’s MP4 link, but there it is. Maybe watch tomorrow.

                          Thanks everybody.

Planeman, thanks. I will look tomorrow, but may not get chance before evening. Venturing to “walk and Talk” tomorrow, without the Talk or coffee afterwards, essential shopping, then home. Dentist afternoon, and going to visit a pal who is well isolated from everybody, probably last visit to him for a while.

                            But “I will be back”.

Lee, thanks for your time. much appreciated.

Planeman, a possible misunderstanding. I was able to watch it, but as it was late, I would have liked to download it to play back later.

lee has tried a couple of things, and advised, but I seem unable to download it, though of course I can watch it. I don’t think Lee wants to leave it “up” too long, after all, it was to be “For ONE night ONLY” Folks. I think my Android is terminal, can’t even get a Factory Reset as the google message intervenes initially after a few seconds (say 5 secs) but then just comes back as quick as I can “OK” it away. Best if I just give up on it.

Tamara was in contact with one of her Florida (ex Odessa) pals yesterday. She and hubby went to the supermarket wanting (=NEEDING) bog roll. All shelves empty. She tried again today without luck, but noticed a VERY long queue outside a store.

A Gun store. Every Yank and his dog was after a (yet another?) firearm.

At least in UK and IoM, they can’t queue up and buy them, and hopefully will not want to buy one.

Dentist for me tomorrow, Tamara was due to see hygienist next week. However she is on holiday, returns at weekend, and will now need to self isolate for 14 days!

At least it is still at the novel stage. Just wait a month or so.

Come on Edp, a bit of black humour is always a good thing.

Of course it WILL upset the snowflakes, but you should be able to see the funny side.

Let’s face it, if this things takes its preferred course, we WILL be desperate for some humour. Any sort.

We shopped as normal on Friday, just a few normal things. There were bog rolls on the shelves (we got a 9 pack last Friday, not my favourite but they were out of stock previous week).

Edp, I thought you were going to threaten us with your presence for a few months, not seen you around yet.

I am not persuaded that the Gov is doing things wrong.

In the first days of enforced lock down in China, we saw people being forcibly dragged off the streets.

We missed out on 1984, so does anybody think in 2020 a UK Gov could get away with that method.

Whilst Bojo et al are being heavily criticised, and everybody and his dog are shouting “You have got it wrong”, the Great British Public are waking up to the fact that something is amiss. I think when the order comes for us oldies to lock ourselves up, there will be more willingness to do so.

When the young, greedy thickos who are upsetting Bob so much are told THEY must also stop at home, they have already registered something is wrong because of their big piles of Bog Roll, and just MIGHT be inclined to do as they are told.

THEY are the real problem for the Gov.

Not suggesting it has been thought through the way I just put it, but I suspect my analysis is fairly sound.

I just wish it would get through to everybody that 60 to 70% will catch the virus.

As Bojo said during the week, some (= many) will die, and it will be mostly in our cohort. That is just a fact.

Who knows, before it fizzles out, there MAY be enough ventilators available.

Other than the woman in the pharmacy last week asking (in vain) for hand sanitiser, no shortages over here apart from a bit of a toilet roll run last Friday night according to my pal. Plenty of Manx flour available, normal and self raising, strong white bread flour, and a choice of wholemeal bread flours. We have an extra bag of both the bread flours, as we have made all our own for the last dozen years. Far better than anything in the shops.

If you look at the John Hopkins site, and change the bottom RH view to DAILY Cases, the red bars are the “New Confirmed” cases. Look at the recent shape of increase, very much like it was in the early (China only) days. Since China cases are slowing, that is the graph shape of the rest of the world. It looks pretty exponential to me. Starting to grow in US (around 30 deaths), but Trumpton says it is just a scare, and it will go away. Just a pity he can’t get a bad dose, just to show everybody it is not a big deal.
