Can’t see how to edit a part, so..
Any thoughts on the WD my cloud?
Firstly I had forgotten about google drive so that is a software option but is still a cost every month if I want more than the standard storage.
I was actually thinking more what dave is suggesting. Is there different models dave?
thanks guys. tried all those and no good. i have tried my portable drive and windows shows it correctly so i think the drive is bad. i will order another.
strange though that it will play a dvd without me being able to even see the drive in windows
Cheers guys
The tv with those issues was already connected via ethernet to one of the powerline adapters. If it happens again I might lug it downstairs to connect directly to the router.
I today took delivery of the version 2 of the original tp link powerline with WiFi. As it is an updated version I wasnt sure it would be compatible with the original that is connected to the router but it works great and allowed a wired connection to our bedroom tv and so far netflix is fine and no buffering. So even though the WiFi test on my phone is very fast, it would seem the tvs WiFi isn’t good enough.
In case it helps I have the WPA8630PKIT that has an adapter at the router with only the 1 ethernet port to connect to the router and no WiFi functionality. The WiFi extender has its own 2.4 and 5ghz and is quite a strong and fast connection. I then bought version 2 of the same but the adapter can act as an ethernet extender elsewhere which is in our bedroom and the wifi extender can again go wherever and have its own WiFi, this time allowing ‘up to’ 1350mbps as opposed to the 1200 of the first set. So the original adapter connected to the router and the other 3 as extenders.
Cheers guys
They one pair I have work great as tested by using speedtest but it is just the smart tvs having the issue on wifi with them.
Any thoughts on the pink and green artifacting only on streaming apps?
Hey guys.
So happy new year first.
Any ideas on the above?
Cheers guys
They don’t make it easy. You need the free version, not the trial download. Go here and click the Blue download button, you’ll be asked for your email addy. You’ll be asked for it again the first time you do anything, but after that it shouldn’t ask again.
cheers dave, done that. now to get some money for it all
so i have now started to clean and package the parts. i am still not sure if a simple format in windows wipes an SSD as i know they are different to HDDs when it comes to this. i downloaded the trial of easeus but it didnt seem to do anything without paying for a full version.
any thoughts welcome
I’d only bother, if it struggles with something you do often. That cpu should be more than fine for home/game use for may years. If doing intensive tasks like rendering big videos if you do that often, you probably got the wrong cpu for the job.
Any point in overclocking the gpu at all then?
I’ve decided to sell as parts.
Do I need to do anything special to wipe the ssd first?
Guess I’ll need some anti static bags to package the parts too
I will leave the ssd in. Is it enough to use Windows own reset option in Recovery before selling on?
Never had that issue with Corsair and I use them a lot. Sell complete or in parts? Not sure there’s a correct answer. You could spend £40 on a new HDD install Windows 10 on it (as the PC has had W10 on it it will automatically activate). Then it would be a going concern.
Yes, never had a similar issue to that across the few power supplies I’ve used.
Not sure what you mean with ‘going concern’
i wanted to post seperate to the last post i made as it is a different piece of info.
i have had to return the corsair cx450m psu. i slightly knocked the side of the case (really was a gentle knock, not hard at all) and there started a rattle somewhere in the case. i took the side off and it was from the psu. i tapped the psu and the rattle stopped.
so i ordered the evga supernova 550 g3 that should come tomorrow. more expensive but gets decent reviews although some say a little loud at load.
any thoughts on the above post as well?
hi all.
so i got it set up and booted first time. yay.
it plays UEBS great. i havent gone far enough to make it into low FPS as the lowest i got it was 60+fps with some quite good numbers of ‘fighters’ and on high settings so i will try my best to push it to it’s limits. makes me wonder what extra people get out of using extremely high end graphics cards. a few extra fps?
now it comes to what to do with the old kit. do i sell as a 90% built PC (i took out the hdd, sdd and 1 optical drive, leaving the blue ray player) or do i break it up and sell the parts? i guess i would be likely to get more money for the parts but it is more hassle packaging and posting etc. any thoughts? it has some pretty decent bits and pieces, just not up to playing recent games at decent graphics settings so hopefully it would make a decent pc for someone.
You may need to do it from an Admin account. I’m afraid I no longer have a Win7 to play with, but sometimes things are concealed unless you are running as an Administrator.
It is windows 10 and as far as I know I am admin. However, moot point as soon I should have the new one up and running. I’ll report back. Cheers guys
Run the Windows Disk Clean-up utility, use the option to clean up System files and pretty much delete everything it allows – especially the files used for Windows updates. My guess is that you have 7GB of cruff hiding there!
just tried that, saved less than 200mb unfortuantely. i figured as we would be losing the steam games anyway until i reinstall them on the new pc, i removed left 4 dead 2 and that saved enough. so, i am running the utility now. again, just to check, the key i buy would be the thing that determines pro as opposed to home?
Unusual, normally there is a LOT more than that! Have you done this step?
i did follow that but mine doesnt have the windows update option. thumbnails is the last one in the list.

Yep, that’s pretty much it except you’re better off creating a bootable USB stick rather than a DVD. You’ll download an app called Media Creation Tool that will do it all for you. Here’s the link https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10 You don’t have to wait for the key to start creating the media.
i just tried to install the tool. firstly it only asked if i wanted to install windows 10 and didnt mention home or pro so i presume that just depends on the key i use. secondly, it wouldnt let me install as it said i need 8gb space available on C which i dont have. any thoughts?
I don’t think there’s anything that would be of higher spec for £20 – £30 that would actually make a difference. As for licence transfer, your Windows 7 would need to have been a full retail version. Read this on how to do it https://www.groovypost.com/howto/transfer-windows-10-license-new-pc/ Personally I would buy a new product key from E-Bay for a couple of quid. I’ve bought loads.
cheers dave. so i havent installed windows for a couple of years. i presume i buy the key from ebay. some of those listings say they will provide a software link so i download that and burn to dvd as an iso. load into the disk drive after building the pc. follow the on screen prompts. i know this should come back to me as i used to do it quite regularly but i’m a bit unsure.
I have never thought of that PSU as loud, quite the opposite. I used one in a new build last week. I haven’t actually come across a loud PSU for years (but I don’t buy the bargain basement stuff). The CX Series CX450 450 Watt 80 PLUS is advertised as low noise http://tinyurl.com/y9ot4p7d it’s only a fiver more.
hi dave.
so i think i have got the specs all sorted. i’ll list them below (mostly the original ones you suggested) with their cheapest price from ebuyer or amazon (with link if amazon or ebuyer)
ASRock AMD Ryzen AB350M Pro4 AM4 mATX Motherboard (amazon – https://www.amazon.co.uk/ASRock-AB350M-Pro4-Motherboard-AMD-Micro/dp/B06X9LN3QK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1506535219&sr=8-1&keywords=ASRock+AMD+Ryzen+AB350M+Pro4 ) £71.24

Crucial Ballistix Sport LT 8 GB DDR4 2400MHz Desktop Memory (amazon – https://www.amazon.co.uk/Ballistix-Sport-DDR4-PC4-19200-288-Pin/dp/B01DPSQOO4/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1506535578&sr=1-1&keywords=Crucial%2BBallistix%2BSport%2BLT&th=1 ) £69.27
WD Blue 250GB 2.5-inch Internal SSD ( amazon – https://www.amazon.co.uk/WD-2-5-Inch-Internal-Solid-State/dp/B01LXDQX35/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1506535660&sr=1-1&keywords=WD+Blue+250GB+2.5-inch+Internal+SSD ) £78.02
Gigabyte Nvidia GTX 1060 WindForce OC 3GB (amazon – https://www.amazon.co.uk/Gigabyte-Nvidia-1060-GDDR5-PCI/dp/B01KHWOAR4/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1506535744&sr=1-1&keywords=Gigabyte+Nvidia+GTX+1060+WindForce+OC+3GB ) £198.95
Corsair cx450m Power Supply ( amazon – https://www.amazon.co.uk/Corsair-CP-9020101-UK-CX450M-Bronze-Certified/dp/B01C3FFOHS/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1506535790&sr=1-1&keywords=cx450m&th=1 ) £47.58
Antec GX-200 USB3 Black Interior Vented Fascia Midi Gaming Case ( ebuyer – http://www.ebuyer.com/706782-antec-gx-200-usb3-black-interior-vented-fascia-midi-gaming-case-no-0-761345-15200-6 ) £34.49
Total £681.55
as it is a little cheaper, would it be worth spending a little more, say £20-£30, on any of the other parts to get anything higher spec?
EDIT…i read that if i upgraded to win 10 from win 7 that i may be able to transfer my licence. isnt this possible?
cheers, marc
