You either have the SA80A1 or SA80A2 the first being now obsolete after many mods, the SA80A2 is the only rifle the RN use so I have not encountered others (Stand fast the L98A1 version the cadets drill with) He’s referring to the (SA80A2)L22 the RMFPG at Faslane use it, though I have spoke to a friend who says that the RAF use it. it has the handle with a shorter barrel and less accuracy, FPG like it for close quarters work.

February 17, 2017 at 11:34 pm in reply to: Strip the MOD Fobbits of their Gongs and Fruit Salad! #4012The Navy(ashore) had the ability to track information such as you suggest Dave. What it lacked was anyone who had the necessary privileges to do it! At sea, dived, security became somewhat lapse as even if you managed to steal the information where were you going to go?

February 17, 2017 at 10:44 pm in reply to: Strip the MOD Fobbits of their Gongs and Fruit Salad! #4009If you look hard enough you can find fault with everything the MOD procures. CD’s/DVD’s had to be brought from the Stationery catalog at vastly higher prices, there was even a memo telling us we could not locally procure them as they may not be secure , which I believe was a throwback to some ex-admirals son in law having started said stationary business. USB stick’s as you can probably appreciate were slightly more controlled easier to hide and quickly moved about/lost. Just sending an outside email was near impossible. The SA80 is only on its second modification. it’s a whole lot better. Through the cadets I fired 1 a few weeks ago, the gas blockages that it suffered from are gone far nicer rifle than I remember.

Seems stupid not to given that you’re going to be in their a while and it will certainly be easier now rather than later plus you’ll get better reliability IMO.

February 17, 2017 at 6:09 pm in reply to: Strip the MOD Fobbits of their Gongs and Fruit Salad! #3982Tragically, I have seen far worse ways of transferring data used and not that far from Richard’s fine mesh idea. The single biggest problem for the armed forces is not actually the introduction of new technologies, it the introduction at the same time as other new technologies. The fact remains that whilst the helicopter may have the capability only a few ships in the fleet have the capability of receiving it and this is down to a beleaguered fleet receiving only parts of the maintenance, it actually needs. Having the latest aircraft with the latest capabilities is only of benefit to the fleet if the units it’s communicating with have the same level of tech.
Even when the Queen Elizabeth Carriers come online the aircraft won’t be online. When the Merlin helicopters came online none of the fleet could land them as they were too big urgent modifications to the hangers had to be made to enable them to land. The 3.5″ floppy disc and DAT Tapes were still in use in 2010 as the tech from 1984 could be connected to anything better. Spike09 shared his office with my servers and hated meat times as I would turn up unannounced to carry out an unplanned update or replace a DAT drive that had munched the tape with the only back on. Having to give history lessons to
Having to give history lessons to 16 year olds who in a state of confusion had come from the all singing/dancing training school to the the fleet where an untrained able did his best to keep a museum piece working long enough to order parts he knew were obsolete in the hope that those same bean counters you’d seen on TV the night before had realized these obsolete parts were in fact still in use. Pi$$ing into the wind does not even begin to cut it.

I know of no completely free player that will do what you want, of course, you have Deezer and Spotify with adverts. Google Play is subscription based I believe with a free trial. I liked Spotify for many years the subscription allowed for downloads to the device for offline music.
You don’t mention what phone you use Samsung’s own player is ok I despise iTunes. If you already have all the music you want.
You might want to check out media monkey if you have an android phone there is a free and a paid for version but allows easy control of your media collection.

Simply, the golden age of Forest came to an end and Clough took the fall. He was a hard manager to get on with but he good results and for the most part he had the players on his side. That said he came from an era that was completely different to the one he found himself in.

if they relaunch it I’ll take it I hate smart phones (actually I don’t but the gyro on my S5 has failed and can’t afford the £££ for a new one this month!)

Apologies for the censoring, this is best done from a desktop as I have found that finding the setting on a mobile is not always practical.

Once your in the last screen, you can edit to your own preference.

SWMBO has the G5 Titan, I hate the touch to wake screen, that button on the back annoys me too, cameras are great, volume is good and it has a decent battery but can be quite fussy with wi-fi when on public networks. I’d give it 4/5 for tech but only 2.5/5 for actual design nice phone I just don’t like it.

Reading some of their stuff on Drivetribe is quite funny, especially their responses to the items the others wrote. There is a few well known racing drivers posting stuff there too like Damon Hill and Mark Webber.

Assuming I believe the BT Router I’m hovering about 1000gb per month to the biggest culprits being my daughter’s tablet at 158gb her phone at 290gb she streams everything and the android box used for alternative media at 331gb. Interestingly the sky box which downloads quite a lot of catchup has only munched 30gb of data, both NowTV boxes just list NaN next to their downloads. So I’d say that streaming uses far more data than downloads.

Scottish disclosure Lists spent convictions as well as live ones, personally, it’s a better system IMO as you can’t be a good boy for a few years and then sneak back in. It also uses your N.I number to cross check information held by hospitals/social services/local councils and anyone else who’s raised concens to any official body.

I’ve owned Zafiras since 2009 not got a real problem with them, the fires belong to the Zafira B, ironically I never owned one of them! On-Star is Vx’s all singing/dancing bells and whistles outfit, I think they’re pushing it with the motorbility crowd to try and generate a quick entry into the 2nd hand market with it.
TBH I like the look of the C4 and we had a C3 courtesy car late last year, I though it’s touchscreen was rather slow and I don’t like that the heating controls are embedded within it. Will have to get a C$ on demo and see if its any better.

Thanks, Bob, The 2 models under consideration are the Zafira and C4 Grand Picasso. If as I suspect she chooses to stick with the Zafira I’m getting it as standard (with on star too:( ). My understanding is if it’s supplied as standard it’s their problem else it’s mine. I’m not looking forward to on-star the oldest’s friend has a car with on star and quote “I can’t wait until our car has wifi too”. Dependant on data charges will depend on whether she gets it or not!”

I’m in date for Disclosure Scotland, took about 6 months from application to receiving a certificate. In Scotland, the certificate does not get renewed its £60 for a new one but any information gained gets added to a database so my employer or whoever rings Disclosure gets told if there are changes to the certificate I have. Since the certificate is nationally held only one disclosure is required as other bodies that would want the information can access it with my certificate number. The certificate does though have flaws, for example, if I’m applying for a job in a bank it throws back information about assault charges that are on my record. Personally not relevant but I’d rather it was there than not, at least the employer knows I’m not holding anything back! The whole disclosure rules have to be tight, but the lack of funding/staff carrying them out leads to delays which often costs us, volunteers, as until we have it we can let them do anything without being watched!

Took my 10-year-old to the local library today as they were doing a “DigiDabble”. She got hands-on with makey makey, a 3D Printer and other educational software toys including the Rasberry Pi. It’s part of a program to encourage kids to get into IT/coding/programming. Since she got home she’s been busy googling about the Pi and telling me all the things it can do, so I guess we’re getting one soon! According to the lady running the whole thing by the end of the year, libraries will have a dedicated IT Librarian and be running all sorts of coding clubs as a way of promoting the subject. I asked her why this wasn’t being done in schools and apparently it will be but first, they have to pass legislation to allow the IT curriculum to be changed enough to allow this sort of stuff to be included!! No wonder this country is so far behind we’re going backward.

For me, the issue is not so much GPS updates I’ll use my phone, but my next car will almost certainly have Nav built into it, I’m lucky in that it will be mobility so updates will be included. I am, though, curious to see how second-hand prices will be affected by out of date firmware/nav software. No doubt for some this will involve the services of eBay and no doubt there already is some dodgy people producing bug filled software.
