Have you tried plugging the USB transmitter into a different socket?
Sorted! Changing the Gamma setting on the monitor from 2.2 to 2.4 removed the problem. Bit of a mystery!
Thank you both for your suggestions.
1703 duly updated to 1803 and all seems OK. Many thanks to you all for your help/suggestions.
I would bug HP for updated drivers!
Unfortunately these laptops (actually described as mobile workstations) date from the XP days and HP don’t support them past Vista. Stupid really as they are well built sturdy machines and should last many years. My colleague has 3 of them (!); I have already installed an SSD in one which has a 64bit processor and 1809 installed OK. The one I’m working on at present is 32bit and so is the last one ?
Do you have access to an older Windows 10 ISO to try?
As it happened I found a copy of the 1703 iso which has installed OK. Question now is – if it’s a 1809 driver problem how do I stop it updating? !!
Problem with the downloaded iso?
I don’t think so Tippon. I downloaded it again today just in case but still no good.
You should be able to turn indexing off on that drive and see if it makes any difference. In file explorer, right click on the HDD drive, select Properties and in the General tab untick ‘Allow files on this drive to have contents indexed in addition to file properties’.
Now only £19.79 for a 120GB Integral at MyMemory (less 69P if you use TopCashback!)
How do I tell them that my go-live date has already passed?
Probably a waste of time telling them anything. As part of my broadband deal I was given an ‘essential sim’ free of charge which is designed for light users. In April I was assured on ‘on-line chat’ that as long as I remained a broadband/telephone customer the sim would remain free. Since September they are now charging £3 per month. (Still good value but that isn’t the point). I phoned to complain and spoke to a lady in Durban SA (!) but of course got nowhere.
Leaving things like the pumps and fans idle for months on end can cause them to stick,
A bit off topic but it’s worth remembering that the same applies to the air conditioning in a motor vehicle which should be run for a few minutes at intervals throughout the winter.
Shortly after we went metric I visited my local wood-yard and asked for a length of 2 x 1 (inch) timber. The bloke looked at me as though I was a real numpty and in a sarcy voice said “we’re now metric sir. What you want is 50 x 25 (mm). “OK” I said – “so what’s a standard length?” His reply…….. 8 feet!
I’ve used this from B&Q:
Has built-in sponge applicator and works a treat.
Problem is Openreach and Plusnet are both within the BT Group. For a start I’d just threaten to refer the matter to Ofcom.
I have never used my Microsoft Account to log in when installing but have always used the link which is something like Use Local Account which is at the bottom of the log-in page. This avoids the problems described and I have never found any difficulty logging into Microsoft apps after the install,
Mine is genuine
I’ve used Crown Solo for about 5 years and haven’t noticed any discolouration.
Going back to Monkey Shoulder’s problem, the same thing happened here. I got round it using ‘Map Network Drive’ (in file explorer menu). Only disadvantage seems to be that if you boot up with the remote PC not live you get an error message ‘unable to connect all network drives’
Now updated both PCs to 1803. Update went smoothly on both desktop & laptop except that the brightness now can’t be adjusted on the laptop and runs at full wack. Seems like a common problem when Google consulted. None of the suggestions there have worked so I guess I’ll just have to wear my sunglasses when using the laptop ?. No point uninstalling the update I think as it will only reinstall sometime in the future. And Intel no longer support the relevant chipset.
Just wondered if anyone had had the same problem and solved it!
Following the helpful info from you guys for which I thank you, I bought one of these for my 2011 Samsung laptop. Boot up time now 24 seconds and its much snappier in use. One other benefit which I don’t think has been mentioned is the increased time between battery charges – I haven’t actually done an accurate check but at a rough guess a charge is now lasting getting on for twice as long as with the spinner. I’ve now bought another of these SSDs for my g-daughter’s lappy!
As it only fails after a video/youtube it might be worth reinstalling the video driver. (In Device Manager select the display adapter, right click and select ‘uninstall device’). Then reboot. If that doesn’t work go through the same procedure and select ‘update driver’.
