JohnSadly I didn’t use, so I forgot
A little off topic Bob, where are the other univere’s we should see.

JohnNo, not too sure on Zip Disk Bob, I think I did see one once.

JohnI have found DVDs are not life time, many a DVD that I have used can’t be read.
I don’t give much to DVDs/CDs being a reliable data storage (what is) they are also backed up on USB Thumbs – Sata 2.5 HDDs – Sata Tetra 3.5″ USB HDD in a case. I also have identicals on rig 2 as I do rig 1
There was a time I had 8Gb DVDs but couldn’t burn to them, now I can I want to.
I hope never to lose the data that’s backed up on either but not much faith in DVDs/CDs.
It’s like floppy’s (what a waste) but we had one so we used it.
Edit: Thanks for the link it adds a bit of light on the reason/s
Cheers
JohnThanks Bob, I have an external on the way.
I have 8GB blank media discs, I want to put backup files on. I do have a DVD writer in the Lenovo (rig 1) that will burn 8GBs but it gets tied down. So I want one for rig 2 so then the lenovo isn’t tied down.
Also I experimented and found the Dell Optiplex (rig 2) is faster than the Lenovo.
Sadly the USB DVD won’t be as fast, but it will relieve Rig 1
My True Image files are too big for DVD but they are going to USB drives (at the moment on rig 1) it’s slowed everything down (hence I am on rig 2) I need to alternate.
Ever since I lost everything on my Amiga I became backup mad. I even (then) split the Amiga HDD and copied everything to the other half.
Cheers
JohnNice one Boris, both the links are helpfull, the first link is spot on. I only know that as I studied the second link.
It’s for sure the OptiPlex 760 Small Form Factor (SFF) found in the first link.
That was my Headache as there seems to be 4 brands of Dell OptiPlex 760
Dell™ OptiPlex™ 760
Mini Tower Computer
Desktop Computer
Small Form Factor Computer
Ultra Small Form Factor ComputerSo I need a Small Form Factor USB 3.0 Card
Cheers
JohnThanks JayCee
You saying that I recall seeing something like that (in some pack)
I don’t recall one for the USB3.0 card, box is long gone.
There is no Model/Name on the card, I don’t know manufacturer.
Maybe need to purchase a new card with a low profile bracket.
I think it’s PCIe not PCI, for the small slot.
Not sure, I am struggling to find specs, when I put the model in a search it brings up the Dell as in Boris’s picture with the standard DVD.
Cheers
JohnPM when I took off the lid to swap the ram (last week) I have a PCI USB 3.0 card I was going to put in. Sadly as much as the DVD Rom is different so are the PCI slots, where the bracket is 5″ the housing is only around 2.5″
So no USB 3.0
Cheers
JohnThanks PM Good idea I will prope them.
Thanks for the link to yours
Edit
I got one of your link not bad nor price.
Cheers
JohnThanks Boris n Bob
It is similar to the pic but it lies flat and a small DVD. have one of those on your links it’s too big it needs to be the zize of a laptop rom. Like the one in my link Found One (above)
My Dell 760 below

Cheers
JohnIgnore the above I thought and found one on the net at Maplin near me.
Aternatively delete this thread please.

JohnSuper Dave, I ponder problems
Cheers
JohnThanks Dave
I won’t bother with the Windows bit then just sell seperately.
Talking Office I brought some keys off ebay. They seemed to work, however now when I try to use the others they accept but won’t activate. You can’t phone to activate either. Online the page says I have brought ilegal keys etc and they no longer work.
I won’t be so quick in future.
Cheers
JohnGreat thanks PM

JohnEdit: (to above)
They said (sorry) it should be 4 x 2GB sticks.
They are going to send me 2x4GB sticks, I don’t know if it will take them (at this stage) they must think so?
Edit: Edit: They say (sorry) it will be 4x 2GB not 2x 4GB
At least they are getting back to me.
Cheers
JohnThanks Tippon

That’s it then I will have to put up with it. The larger the res the smaller the view my eyes can’t cope.
I get tiny white lines running down the screen, maybe graphics.
Cheers
JohnPM I’ll get in touch then see what they say.

JohnIt arrived not as advertised (it’s the ram) not sure if I should make a fuss.
Dell Optiplex 760
Windows 10 Pro
Q9400 (4 Cores)

4GB Ram (not the advertised 8GB) shown in system information?
They sent me a reciept even that has 8GB on it.
Cheers
