Bob same here with my Dad (passed)

Before I continue, I confess above mentions of my dad are of my Step Dad.

He was a DJ and had all tech recording kits (reel to reel-projector) I came across his old videos and converted it to DVD, also they are on dropbox. (I think this was mentioned by me, maybe on MM?

I wish he was still here, he would have loved todays tech. He would have been tech savvy before me.

      Cheers
      John

        Cheers Bob

That’s the one he has, the problem was getting it to talk to the TV direct without pressing loads of buttons.

As for the other you suggest, he has that on the TV as well, he needs internet. I hope one day to get them (inluding mom) to get internet. It’ll save me ordering for them. I do Amazon – ebay – Argos and even acardo for them, my sister (on her mobile phone) does some Amazon – Iceland – Tesco for them.

I tell them tiil I am blue in the face life is tech today.

Duke I hope I reach the time, you’ll just tell the pc what you want and it will happen.

At one time they never wanted a mobile, now they’re like kids, they never wanted freeview recorders HD TV’s now they have bigger & better than me. I wanted them to go Sky TV.

I want them fully into tech cause it’ll save me.

I told him it has headphone socket on the TV, I had to get him some off Amazon, something Dave Rice once showed me with Amazon, at least I get it delivered to them. I haven’t got to take it when it arrives, same with Argos now.

        Cheers
        John

I have had many rows with him, it’s so simple. he keeps saying he is old, I say that’s no excuse, but I am old he says.

I think he thinks John’ll sort it and he doesn’t need to bother.

Ed he uses a Freeview box, as the TV only has 1 tuner, he can’t watch one record another
nor record 2 (at the same time) while he is out. After I setup to record on TV he done away with the Freeview Recorder.
When he tried to turn over from BBC1 (he was recording) to ITV it said this action can’t be performed,
while recording. So he went back to the freeview recorder.

I agree with what you say Richard.

So Alan your saying it’s down to scart not the TV, if scart (old stuff) can do it then so should new stuff (HDMI) so new tech isn’t as good as old tech.

Myself I don’t think HD is any better.

Anyway I showed him today, how to source to HDMI (so simple)

Have a guess what he said

I don’t think you would ever guess, so here goes

“The picure has gone too dark, I will stick with scart”

Originally useing scart he thought he was watching HD, if only I had kept my mouth shut.

He seems happy now, I said to mom, I will give him a week, if he remains happy
I will give him my bill.

          Cheers
          John

Ed the freeview he has, is HDMI as in the first post.

I enabled CEC but it seems it doesn’t want tknow.

It seems to auto select the scart no problems, yet I would have thought HDMI would hold power over scart?

The problem with scart I think he’s missing out on programs in HD.

You can change the source to HDMI1 but that’s confusing for him, then there after he has to change back to TV.

              Cheers
              John

                  Thanks Ed

I tried it with a USB 32gb Sandisk (USB2) and it records fine, not sure if it will except
                  500gb HDD.

Dad has found another problem he can’t handle

(I did tell him it only had a single tuner he could only record one and watch the same)

He was recording Emerdale and tried to turn over, giving a message this action can’t be done.

On that he has gone back to freeview recorder box (2 tuners) and left the TV recording.

Richard (just to say) when I inserted the USB stick it said format unknown, do you want to format
I said yes and it formatted, so the TV uses it’s own format.

                  Cheers

                      Thanks PM

Good advice not sure what to look for I did think a 3.5″ HDD Enclosure with a WD 500GB HDD. But then would it do for the TV.

I need to look for one that’ll play nice with the with a Toshiba TV.

I am struggling to find any recomendations.

Thanks Duke I will look into it.

I am weary of gumtree (don’t know why) I do now thanks Bob.

I think I tend to go ebay for protection.

I tried to re list, it said I have reached my limit, twice they prevoiusly canceled.

I have just had a chat on ebay help, they say I have sold and reached my limit for this month. I explained ebay cancelled I didn’t get paid. They have lifted the restriction and insited I can block, I insit you can’t. They suggested if I put it on as BIN then someone with 0 feedback (just joined, or non member) can’t bid. That then defeats the Auction.

If I put it BIN cheap I lose, if I put it expensive I may not get bids.

I did close my ebay account (had for many years) and opened another so my limts are low. It does keep saying I have £440 left of £500 yet they seperate it. Like 60 of the amount is for Computers, £40 is for kettles etc. So quickly I reached my limit for Computers and I have never sold a computer on ebay.

I decided today, to keep the Dell and I was gonna try to sell the Lenovo on ebay.

                            I give in.

I have always thought ebay is going down, now I think no wonder.

Edit: Duke I tried UK and it just gave 73 UK sales.

                            Cheers

                              Maybe gumtree next

Duke I have never heard of Ali express, did a search it seems $ not £

Bob I tend to buy like yourself, though always going for the cheapest.

tadka to block you use Help & contact type in block bidders /
Managing bidders and buyers / Add buyer requirements

To block specific bidders (if you know the user name) more than one are seperated with ,

                                ie

                                fred, bill, harry

That sounds more like it not registered” it actually means “no longer registered.

Boris bidders have never contacted me after cancellation. They should update block bidders
to those not local, like 10 mile radius.

I do think compared to years ago, ebay has lost (and losing more) buyers & sellers
They now offer free listing, no final value fee, £1 max final value fee, Pay only when you sell this month
Schedule 20 listings per month for free.

I have all that setup, you just can’t exclude everything, you can only block  1 with 3 or 2 with 1 type of thing. You can’t stop no member bids. you can block a bidder if you know the user name and then you can only block future not past  listings.

Buyer requirements can help you reduce your exposure to buyers who make transactions more difficult or expensive.
To allow specific eBay members to bid on or purchase your items regardless of the requirement(s) you select, add them to your buyer requirements exemption list
                                  Select requirements
Important: Select buyer requirements carefully as it may reduce your selling success. The requirement(s) you select will be applied to your current and future listings, except as otherwise noted. Learn more about buyer requirements.
                                  Buyers without a PayPal account
Block buyers who don’t have a PayPal account. (Note: This block only applies to future listings and can be disabled per item on the Sell Your Item form.)
This requirement can help you to reduce the risk of unpaid items, as PayPal account holders have up to an 80% lower unpaid item rate.
                                  Buyers with unpaid items recorded
Block bidders and buyers who have
unpaid item(s) recorded on their accounts withinmonth(s)
This requirement can help you to avoid bidders and buyers who have a history of not paying for the items they agreed to purchase.
Buyers in locations to which I don’t post

Block buyers whose primary delivery address is in a location I don’t post to.
This requirement can help you to avoid buyers who purchase your items without realising that you don’t post to their location.

                                  Buyers with policy breach reports
                                  Block buyers who have
                                  breach of policy report(s) withinmonth(s)
This requirement can help you block buyers who have breached eBay policies.
Buyers with a negative Feedback score
Block buyers who have a Feedback score of or lower.
This requirement can help you to avoid buyers who have received more negative than positive Feedback from other eBay members.

What is going on, I relisted it (last Sunday for 7) it’s been doing ok.

I had 6 bids (last time I looked) with bidders having 400 odd 100% feedback.

I didn’t see the end, and looked in my email, I had another scam bid and ebay again cancelled it.

                                    johnbarry ses no more.

Cancellation has wiped the other bids so I can’t offer a secon chance, it#s completely gone.

This is the second time in 3 weeks. Ebay say not registered on ebay how the H–l did they bid.

We had to cancel bids for the buyer, rtgrartp_0, because they aren’t registered on eBay:

I grabbed a till assistant and she helped all the way to my item and back (that’s service for you.)

There was a big que but got through it pretty quick (10 tills)

O yes the item I was after was online but not in stock at the shop.
I never got far enough (with online ordering) to chack availabilty at my local mat.

                                      Cheers

                                        Thanks Duke

I have tried to select collection with no luck, thanks for the suggestion, I have emailed? it still might be better (as you suggest) to call in, although that defeats the object of online shopping.

                                        Cheers

                                          Thanks Ed

On that then I will continue with order (via paypal) and hope to select collection.

                                          Edit:

I tried again there is no selection for collect, when I tried to pay it said it went wrong choose delivery.

                                          Cheers

                                            Thanks Duke

it’s not my address I need to pick free  collection and don’t see the option.

I am not spending enough for free delivery.

Matalan is only down  the road (due to disability) I order and collect. It cuts down on time spent in shop/s.

Also a lot of the type item is out of stock so I wanted to order before it came out of stock. Too much time can be spent going and finding out they don’t have what I am after, hence online shopping. To be sure you need to pay first.

Amazon have stock (of the item I need) with free delivery, but they cost more. Going to matalan I save £6.

                                            Cheers
