Bob whilst I don’t disagree with your reasoning – but how the heck does the manufacturer know if the original owner has over used or abused it?

Doesn’t some manufacturer’s software show the number of hours of use, plus the number of read/writes?? I used Seagate’s tools a while ago on an iffy drive and seem to recall seeing those details. They would be able to establish use that way but what constitutes abuse of an SSD??

I got offered that in June this year. It’s a group called Performance in People. I applied, but didn’t hear back from them.

They were working with Mercedes ( or for them ) and they wanted you to phone them first and then speak to MB to book the service. They would be recording or monitoring the call, plus as you say, go along with you on the day as a “friend”. It was £100 in John Lewis vouchers – as good as cash in many ways – most people could find something with JL and their prices are well matched.

EDIT – I forgot to mention, but with certain assessors, apparently, it could be you wearing the secret camera and doing the filming.

The “add-on” – from the garage roof – I meant was in regard to roof capacity/space, because of my roof shape. This would be at first installation.

A bungalow, 4 doors up from us has a set-up split on two adjacent roofs at right angles to each-other. HERE. Our roof is at “Bed and Bone” – pointy and split sections.

We would have had an installation done years ago, but they wouldn’t install if building work was imminent and we were planning building an extension, where our conservatory was, and making it into a lounge/kitchen/diner. By the time it was built, they had cut the tariff and stopped free installation!!:(

BL lol, I have the attic, she can’t climb the pull down ladders. Though I did have the shed, but the kids slowly took it over. To combat them infiltrating the attic the lights and electric are controlled by my phone. It’s sad state of affairs really, when a man pays the bills and has nowhere to hide! Lol. In our first house, when the kids was little, I had a huge shed, 12×16, the one thing I have trully missed since we move out. Still miss it almost 20 years on. My garden is only about 30x 20, and has a small shed in the only place it doent spoil the view. Also my grass is dead. Thought I’d share that too.

When you said that your grass was dead, I thought you meant the marijuana factory in the attic – and it was because you’d forgotten to turn the lights on!!

@wasbit – having the gable end of a concrete garage mounted on runners, so that the whole thing can be pushed out for added ventilation, may not demonstrate your professionalism, but it certainly shows your proficiency!!! That’s one hell of an upgrade to opening a window!!!

We’ve got asbestos on the roof of our garage, which I want to change. THIS is ideally what I want to use. They also do a system that holds Solar Panels, THESE are they – albeit on a very large scale – but their main page that shows them better is down at the moment. As I would like Solar Panels at some time, but have a strange roof – we are south facing at the back, but there isn’t a large enough single plane to take the panels – the garage roof might be utilised as an add-on area for the panels. But that’s a plan for another year unless they start promoting them again!!

Slightly off topic – I use a solar panel to run a 250mm 12v fan in my shed. The brighter the sun shines the faster the fan goes. Saves £s off my electric bill.

Random question (considering I’ve never owned one), why does the shed need a fan?

Windows, little ventilation/air flow, small (ish) confined spaces – they very quickly turn into ovens. Even my garage – 6m x 3m – with an up and over door that’s not particularly draught-proof has three fans in it for if I’m working there on hot days. In my sheds, if I leave anything in carrier bags, they very quickly deteriorate in the heat and fall apart quite spectacularly.

My dad used to go to what was Miner’s Convalescent Home in Pegwell Bay, which is good distance north-east of Hastings of course.

Pegwell Bay is about 10 minutes down the road from me. It’s a lovely part of the County. There’s a Country Park, beaches and great dog walks.

It’s also home to the old Ramsgate Hovercraft Terminal, now unfortunately a derelict area of disused Car Parks, staging areas and concrete pads and ramps. Great shame.

It’s my home page for whichever browser I use. Whenever I need to look for something, it’s so easy to type into the middle box, although these days the url bar does the same thing.

I still have my everyday sites bookmarked, although I’ve found I’m accessing them that way a lot less, recently, since installing LastPass last year. That has turned into the simple route to access my most used sites as I don’t need to memorise the LogIn details.

As Bob says, the “fluidity” of ( almost:) ) everything Google, well Photos, Maps, Drive, Google+, etc all together is really handy.

I had the same thing about 2 years ago. It took out the mobo and PSU, plus iirc graphics card and memory. It transpired that it messed up a laptop connected to the router, which also got taken out, but I didn’t claim for the laptop as I didn’t know till too late – the claim had gone in already.

                        The TV died too.

I do enjoy Greek food, especially a Meze – it has my two favourites for eating – quantity and variety? – and the wife enjoys Greek coffee – Espresso +  Metaxa + frothed milk ?? . It’s been a while since we did one, must check out the local area!!

Being on a regime of sensible eating, as opposed to a strict diet, it’s perfect for her, as she can pick and choose whatever fits the bill. I just finish off everything else.?

When we got sky shortly after we moved in the guy installing told me he could not run the cable through the loft, sky discourage it due to people altering their lofts after installation and then blaming sky for any problems its not worth their time apparently, which back’s up @sgb101 earlier post. I seem to recall a question when you sign up for sky about the height of property, maybe this has something to do with insurance and loft installs?

It could be more to do with the fact that they don’t like using long ladders. Quite some years ago, in fact when we changed from Analogue to Digital, Sky needed to fit a new style aerial. Ours was fitted on the chimney stack ( 3-bed semi ). They wanted to fit it onto the house wall, just above the top of the front downstairs bay window. SWMBO didn’t want that ( she called it a giant zit ) so told them they needed an aerial fitter who could access the roof. That took several visits by people who couldn’t fit the aerials above a certain height, – their van was only equipped with short ladders – until we got a locally contracted aerial fitter, who was like a monkey. I thought he was going to rope from the stack with a harness, but he climbed the ladder with a spanner, trotted up the valley to the stack, loosened the old aerial and came back down the valley with it over his shoulder!! Then repeated the process with the new aerial. The cabling came down to the front of the lounge, then back up over the roof – not ideal – to our son’s bedroom at the back. By this stage I was just glad to have the new aerial up in situ so we called it done!!

According to GSM Arena – my go to site for phone comparisons – the Plus can come with dual Sim as well. See HERE. Amazon didn’t help, there seems to be grey imports only on there ( Italian? translation of colour and £17 UK delivery.)

Amazon is the only place at the moment selling the Dual Sim. It’s also got 3GB memory instead of 2. HERE.  It’s what I’m watching. (Didn’t think to check the price of this on Prime Monday!!:( ) Never mind, the Xperia is holding it’s own at the moment.

Only issue I have with the G5 is that I was thinking of getting a second SIM for cadets – that way I can have a SIM card that parents can contact me on without me having to hand over my personal number. But if I do, I can’t use the microSD slot. #firstworldproblem Other than that, it’s a good phone, but is on the bigger side, especially with the case I’ve got on it (a Spigen one – cant recall which one)

I’ve been looking at the G5 as a future phone, and this concerned me. I did a bit of research and ended up HERE. It seems that you can use 2 sims and an SD card.?

I regularly gave blood when I was working for BT, we had sessions organised at our workplace and were given time out to attend. That continued until ’93 when I left BT.

From then on, I either had to get myself to a hospital ( leaving the wife on her own for three hours without the van ) or to the Town Hall on specific dates and at specific times. Being self-employed, that was just not practical, so I lapsed. When I tried again recently I found out that if you’ve had Cancer, you’re no longer eligible, even if you’re cured.

Quote from HERE – “The guidelines say that you can’t donate blood if you have had cancer because there is a theoretical risk that a cancer cell could be passed on in the blood. There is no evidence to prove that this is possible. It is very much a safety measure.”

I don’t know whether to be comforted by their approach, or annoyed.

It wouldn’t do for our house – the wife would call out ( shout ) “Have you seen my glasses, darling?”  Cue the electronic snarky voiced reply – “Have you looked on top of your head yet??!!” and things would start bouncing off the wall – the puck for saying it closely followed by me for laughing at it!!

@blacklion1725 – as per that table, you’re correct, it will take 64A, only if that cable run is “Clipped direct, or sheathed cables embedded directly in masonry, brickwork, concrete, plaster or the like (other than thermally insulating materials)”.

If it’s routed in a ” In a stud wall with thermal insulation with the cable NOT touching the inner wall surface.” –  then it’s only 32A.

Depending on how your 10mm cable is routed, the current carrying capacity varies. See HERE.

Back in the day ( Ohms Law still applied:) ) a 3kW fire was rated at 13amps. A 10.5kW shower will minimally consume 3 1/2 times that, ie 45amps. Make sure your cable routing matches up.

The majority of that 10.5kW will be the heater that takes cold water in and produces “instant” hot water out. A smaller percentage will be the pump.

Your sparks friend would do better with a quick site survey beforehand, to make sure any work already done won’t need undoing, and any planned will meet the regs, with a final visit to connect and certify the installation.
