I would not go near Yahoo-anything without a tin hat, Dettol and gloves. Every malware invasion I ever had, was connected with Yahoo in some way.
I’ve recently had notification that AOL is now OATH ( I’m sure Bob has already directed a few of those their way!! ) – see HERE – with Yahoo, under Verizon. I have already started migrating my useful logins away from that and onto Gmail. I’ll either use it for one-off logins or “disposables”, but seeing as most of my Spam ( albeit well filtered by Gmail ) – comes via them, and is mostly US oriented, I might well close it down after a year of monitoring for any logins I’ve missed.
??
I’m really trying not to be rude when I ask this, but why would you trust, or even ask a question in the first place, when you see some of the questions already on there?? I just went to try for you, but was astounded at the level of questions I saw. The inanity of what was on there, whether asked as a genuine question or not, was beyond belief. The whole site would seem to be as beneficial as using a Public page on Facebook as your dating diary!!
Examples.
Why does u think atheists always loose debates on religion?
How do I convince my girlfriend to wax her arms?
IF A WOMAN HAS MISCARRIAGE, is it HER FAULT OR GOD FAULT?
HAVE YOU EVER BROKE UP WITH SOMEONE. was it nasty or nice?
Ok so i cheated on my bf with one of his family members?
I’m sorry, but that site is a waste of bandwidth.
There is a way to access non-Freesat channels called Freetime, but from what I have read, it isn’t very successful with the previous one-cable, non-F type connections, as used in older Freesat boxes and original Sky boxes. Might be OK with the newer boxes with 2x F-type connectors. Apparently on some setups, it knocks out programme settings and they have to be reset.
I was looking at THIS comparison – good info but vague on certain specifics – it details down on usability that the new version of Freetime is :- “……super easy to use. You can scroll back in time to catch up on shows you missed, search for the right programme, and neatly organise your recordings. However, it doesn’t come as standard – make sure the box you choose supports Freetime.”
BL – it looks like you’ve already got the better solution to your future viewing needs.:)
Good to hear – on both counts!!
JCD, I just subscribed to DofG and sent a msg to Mr Brew, with compliments from us ex-MM forumites.
?
Lee, take it easy and concentrate on the important things in life. Best of luck for Dad……… and yourself too, come to that.
I’ve just recently heard about the sister-in-law’s partner – heart attack @ 42 and dead before the ambulance arrived, at least Dad made it and survived the crash. It’s thing like this, that keep life in perspective.
Regarding an extra pair of eyes, I’m always around, permanently logged in, so if that’s what’s needed, count me in. Let me know.
It tastes like sh*t, but a Hydrogen Peroxide mouthwash is great if it’s an infection and you’re not yet on anti-biotics.
I’ll add one thing to my comments – the ease of adding subtitles! All too often I find that I am forced to switch them on during many US drama series as I cannot understand a damned word that is being spoken! While my hearing has deteriorated it isn’t THAT bad. Others have noticed the same difficulty as exemplified in this blog. I challenge anyone to make sense of the lines being mumbled in the associated clip!
Too true!!! The wife is over 60% down in her right ear and just under 50% down in her left. She has needed subtitles on programmes for a long while and it’s only recently that they have become “universal” on Sky, Amazon, Netflix or Freeview, and also only recently, but not universal, on Catch-up or download.
I quote “universal” because while subtitles are there for most programmes, it’s still not for all.
The one thing that I have noticed is the quality of the sound is better on HD channels rather than that on non-HD. She has the volume at 40 for HD sound, but needs it at 60 – 70 for non-HD channels.
The mumblers have been around for some time now – Steven Segal’s movies seem to have started the fashion about 10 years ago, when he got fat!!
Side-note :- did you notice who wrote that article you linked to Ed?? It was by Simon Brew, ex-Editor of MM and self-confessed Dr Who/Den of Geek nut!! Small world?.
Shouldn’t this have gone in for No 40??!!
I’d create a folder, call it something relevant and dump all the stuff in there. Put that folder into your google drive and then right click it, you’ll get the option to ‘get sharable link’. Paste that into an email.
Cheers, PM. I always get concerned that I’ll click on a setting, to do something entirely different, and open up all my photos to the outside world. ( Not the end of the world, but not ideal!! ) I’ve had people send me a photo on FB before, and I could scroll through all of their photos. Not a nailed down system at all, especially when the titles of some of the settings are vague and unclear as to the scope covered by it!!
Thanks Drezha, that might work – I’ll try that in future. I’ve just pasted the section of the report and the two photos into the body of a reply to them – waiting to see if that was received OK – not pretty, or elegant, but it seems to have worked. I was just looking for a neater solution than re-sizing or whatever.
The 20Mb limit is what I’ve seen previously, and always assumed it was a Gmail thing, not the recipient.
The photos I take with a phone these days are all fairly large in size, because I want them at best quality really. With phones and cameras capable of high quality and large file sizes, I would have thought a better integration would exist. It seems to be something that’s slipping through the net ( pun intended ) needing a workaround/conversion to get the job done.
@bullstuff2 – I think the link has been copied from where it resides on your computer, as opposed to where one may find it on the web!!
Now, if you were intending to share your desktop with the outside world, ( which I know you weren’t !!;) ) there’s an old English Bridge for sale, somewhere over in America…… and a Nigerian Prince looking for a friend in the UK!!??
Well, I started off reading about THIS……… which made me chuckle – just down the road from you Bob?? – but ended up really ROFL’ing at this……… I’m sure our members to the West will appreciate this quicker than the rest of us!!

For those of us that don’t parlez Welsh, the story was:-
Welsh-speaking drivers in Swansea were bemused to encounter a road sign that informed them: “I am not in the office at the moment. Send any work to be translated.”
Above the baffling statement on the dual-language sign was the correct wording in English: “No entry for heavy goods vehicles. Residential site only”.
The howler came about because a non-Welsh speaking council employee emailed the authority’s in-house translation service, and took the response received as the translation being sought for the new road sign.
Brensiach!
Well at least they could identify what trainers the thief was wearing!!:)
That’s all a thing of the past now, Nolan. See ABI info HERE.
It’s the No-Claims that’s killing you. Unfortunately you’re classified the same as a new driver if you don’t have a No-Claims to carry over. Happened to a relative of mine that came back to the UK after 8 years in France.
Have you been doing it yourself?? Our relative got a better deal than she – or I – could get on-line, by going through a broker.
It’s the estate I’m after, but couldn’t find a grey one. So what do you think green or grey
There’s always this one

There’s a picture of a white one HERE – with details of what’s in the new facelift version.
I’ve been researching another car too – mostly along the lines of what equipment is available on late secondhand models. Some of the tech that now comes with them is mind-blowing.
I’ve started by checking on whether Bi-Xenons, my current ( literally brilliant ) lights, have been bettered by LED headlights. It seems they are blown away!!
The Audi Matrix System – HERE – and the Merc’s Active Multibeam LED – HERE – show how much things have moved on in just the last few years. These will all filter down to other makes very quickly as has been the case before.
@sgb101 – with the facelift versions out a few months now, a year should be adequate to iron out any niggles.New look is an improvement, Lee. Now my Tabs also look less dodgy. Thanks. 🙂
I thought I’d just got one from “Barclays” – it turns out it’s actually from them and is giving advance notice of their websites being “off-the-air” for extended times over various weekends in the next few months, except over Christmas, they wouldn’t risk being out over that period.
Apparently it’s all to do with the UK Ring-Fencing for banks. Expect some from your bank soon.
A client I was talking to about cars was saying that a lot of dealers are now sending all their ( not own brand ) PX cars to auction, these days. Dealers are now doing things like MB’s Approved Used Cars. These meet specific mileage, service, condition criteria and are competitively priced, plus at certain times of the year, they push deals on them, to make way for “New Plate” stock. That time is now, so could be a point worth pushing, come negotiating time, were you looking at dealers.
As far as Car Supermarkets go, I personally have never had good service from them when I was looking for a car for our son, but that could just have been a bad outlet. ( Big Motoring World). Google the name of the outlet you’re going to, with “Complaints and reviews” – that gives you an idea of the level of service.
Good luck.
