I know it’s only going to be a one-off use, but for the sake of a couple of quid, get one of THESE to connect the wires, the plastic ones are useless.

Glad the process worked. Also, quick tip, take a photo of your current wiring connections, on the face-plate and inside the back-plate, and maybe mark one cable “i/c feed” and the other “extension”.

EDIT – is your internet back to full speed now??

The first half dozen I came across on THIS page are all in stock and some are Prime delivery. Solwise is a recognised name. If I was looking, I’d go for THIS one.

All extensions come off the subscriber side of the Master Socket – see YT video HERE. ( Or they did when I was with BT back in the 90’s. A while ago, but the Master Sockets are the same.)

If you had ADSL, the procedure I’d advise would be as below, but fibre, I’ve had no experience of. It’s likely the same as the wiring goes to the Master socket first. The procedure would show where the fault lies, out to the exchange, or on your wiring.

Your second socket ( with the corded phone ) should be wired from the “removable” part of the face-plate. Unscrew the faceplate and take the front section ( sometimes 2 )   off. This should give you just the back-plate box ( about an inch deep with a telephone socket on display.) Plug an old style filter into it and then plug your modem cable into that. Measure your speed and see what’s what from there. If it’s still low, the problem is outside, if it’s back to top speed, the problem’s within your set-up.

This BT Master socket was designed for fault location, ie inside the customer’s premises, or outside to line.

EDIT – I’ve just put “Filtered Faceplate” into Amazon and loads of results came up. Just choose the one that looks most like the one you’ve already got.

The ‘plus’ to the 4K box is the installation should include the additional lnb which enables at least two channels to be recorded separately.

That’s actually 5/6 or 6/7 simultaneous recordings, depending on what you’re willing to sacrifice!! See HERE – a big improvement on the Sky Plus HD boxes.

Well someone thinks 2019/2020 will be the time in the UK – Tesla will start making RHD versions.

He’s a pretty amazing guy – I’ve just been browsing the Tesla site and have just seen the smartest looking solar installation HERE. Realistic looking roof tiles that are actually mini-solar panels!! And just look at their warranty!!

One restriction to bear in mind is the fact that the Sky Q box only has 2 Ethernet ports as opposed to the Sky Hub’s 4 ports. If you need more, that will cause you some grief.

THIS is my kind of electric car, but not at that price!!!

It all seemed to be moving along slowly, adaptation by adaption, improvement by improvement, but in the next few years, it’s going to be major changes coming by 2020.

I think it might have something to do with a common heritage. Go back a few generations in her line and you find they were a mixture of barge folk and Romany.

Only in her case, being the eldest, all the rest looked up to her, as she was really more like a Mum than big sister.

She’s very much the same. Her abiding principle as she grew older ( and for a period, sicker, ) has been “Use it, or lose it.” hence the fact that both her back surgery and her hip ( x2 ) surgeries have been postponed by the consultants ” …..until you feel the need to have it done.” For now, yoga, pilates, Tai Chi, Aqua-fit exercises, gym, etc, all fulfill the function of keeping her mobile. Oh and an hour ( or two )  -long walks down the beach at Minnis Bay.

Job wise, she started young as well. She lived at the time around the corner from Portobello Market and as a 5/6 year old, she cleaned the rust off bike wheels and frames with wire wool for a guy who had a stall down there. Plus part time jobs when time permitted – she was the eldest of three at the time, later of seven – and did all the running around for the family, collecting shopping or coal in the pushchair or pram. As she grew older, 9 – 13, she would do shopping for all the elderly neighbours, negotiating a discount at the local shops for herself when she went there with their orders. She was a market trader before she actually used the Markets to trade!! When she took over the business she had worked in as a salesgirl ( fruit and flower shop, then stall ) in ’87, she was one of very few women buying in New Covent Garden Fruit Market, women were better represented in the Flower Market, but not by much. Never one to back down from a challenge – probably why we’ve stayed together for so long!!?

One of my more venal kids said that we should go around the house putting stickers on the backs of everything with our estimate of value. That way they won;t put the good stuff into house clearance, and would know what to put into the piles to be divided between them. I’m still not sure if she was joking.! There was actually a lot of truth in the request as house clearing is a horrible job and you rapidly reach the point of just wanting shot of everything.

Actually, I’d say she was the practical one, unless of course, after you’d done it, you got a lot more visits from her!! Just checking, Mum!!!

That’s not a problem for us – just the one!!

I have no intention of selling it JCD: it is not only a memento of my mother, but of her landlady friend, whom I met many times as a child.

Should finance the Care Home! I love pottery, must be genetic as my mam worked in a Burslem Potbank called Woods.

Don’t forget to let the kids/Grandkids know what you want doing with them all when that time comes. Get some valuations done so they don’t fall into the same trapas someone tried on you. You don’t want to buy an antiques dealer his new car before your care home, do you!!

When’s the Antiques Roadshow” coming to your neck of the woods next???

When I retired, I sold the HP monster and bought an A4 Hp Photosmart C5380, a 5-cartridge printer that has great reproduction: now almost 8 years old and still good. I still always use genuine HP cartridges, because I like to print out my own photos. I know that I can get them done cheaply on the High Street, but the actual editing and printing of my own photos, is an activity that I really enjoy. I have actually made a problem for myself, by designing and printing almost 100 Invitations for my granddaughter’s upcoming 21st. birthday party. So many have asked her who designed and printed them, that I have several requests for other work. I am considering this: at 72, should I begin again, despite (because of?) objections from my dear SWMBO? I think yes, but will choose my jobs on a case-by-case basis. More pension support is always useful. Don’t absolutely need it, but will definitely use it! Here I go again…

There’s that conversation about “retirement” we had from the other Topic!!? If you get any input/direction from SWMBO, just ask her should you occupy your time doing her odd-jobs, or earn enough for a new dress or two for her next Summer.

Be thankful for the one you’ve got – mine has a history of self-employment where you always took on whatever work was required to pay bills ( this years/next years/ the one after that……) because you never knew when it wouldn’t be there, and has carried this principle into my retirement.?

There’s a lot of debate, controversy and unrest about the actual Memorial itself at the moment. HERE.

Have you had it valued by one of the big Auction Houses at all, Bob?? It’d fly through Customs if they were selling it. Might be some value at the moment, what with all the furore and news about the Mountain itself. Could easily give the auction a bit of pazazz!!

I’ve got the 2630WF and I’ve not noticed those two things happening together. I do notice the non-Epson ink reminder, but just click through it.

Overall it’s been a good printer now for about two years. Only occasional use, but when it does get used, it gets hammered.

Quora still requires a log-in but that tends to stop spam – you cannot win! Although Stack Exchange is very good, the mods are a bunch of anal nit-pickers who are very unhelpful to those they deem not to have made enough effort. e.g ‘The question has been asked before – naff off’ this is a frequent reply even when it is obvious the person posing the question is a noob.

Don’t know about you, but I find it infuriating, looking through FAQ’s or forums for  (eg) anti-malware or anti-virus companies. It’s not as easy as they make it sound. You put the essence of your question into their search box and 985 replies are displayed. Do they really expect you to read each one for the answer that may be closest to your question???

Retirement for me just meant staying at home to work, doing the dogs!! Having said that, it has served us well, having come down here with nothing, and needing to stay home to look after a not-very-well SWMBO.

DWP basically did nothing for us, she got the old Disability Benefit until they changed the name to ESA, then a year later they told us you only qualified for this for 12 months. I got nothing, but still had to stay at home to look after her. That’s how the dogs came about.

They’ve seen us through until my Pensions came in and they changed the rules so Anne could take hers early. Every time we talk about retirement, it seems another project comes along so it needs to be deferred!! :sob::sob: Still at least we’ve squeezed in our first proper holiday for 9 years?. 5 1/2 weeks to go!!!
