Remember them TV’s that came with a meter you put a £ into for a certain amount of time ? That could be awkward, or not!

No – they’d have the Magnus Magnusson Mandate – ” I’ve started, so I’ll finish”. Can’t leave a man hanging!!

Is it the same sort of thing as @gmail.com and @googlemail.com?? I started out on googlemail.com because at the time gmail.com wasn’t available in the UK ( or Germany, Poland or Russian Fed.)

Every Gmail User has two Gmail Addresses
Surprised?? When a user creates a new Gmail.com account, he actually gets two email addresses. The first one is the regular @gmail.com id while the second one is @googlemail.com id. It is because the domains gmail.com and Googlemail.com are interchangeable.

Both Gmail.com and Googlemail.com point to the same mailbox for a given username. So if you have default address – geek@gmail.com all the mails messages addressed to geek@googlemail.com will also be delivered to the same inbox.

This also means that usernames registered through either of the domains can’t be duplicated.

Could it be similar? You get the added dot address as well??

Anybody having problems viewing PM’s Topic ” New Chromebook”?? There’s a latest reply that just gives me a text ( and avatars ) page(1) when clicked on.

Tried it in Chrome on W10 then tried Firefox on W10 – same result.

THIS is better than the pole mounted version. Use a PLATFORM to get higher, rather than ladders. The more stable you are, the flatter the end result will be.

I tried to use the pole version when doing one of our houses, it had more ripples than a Mr Whippy ice cream!!

It’s worth getting a quote for a skim of plaster. It may work out easier, if not cheaper.

Edit – if you go the skim route, don’t forget to seal the bare plaster before painting it. You can use a diluted emulsion paint, with some PVA added.

Lights connected to the plug socket isn’t great, but manageable, so long as you don’t need to get the electrics certified. Sockets off the lighting circuit, however is really dodgy!! The average lighting circuit is normally fused at 6A, the average socket handles up to 13A.

You’ll find a 3A fuse in a table lamp for example, but a 13A fuse in a kettle or tumble dryer or dishwasher.

If you can, find a way to use another socket until the wiring has been checked and the socket re-wired or isolated.

                Good luck.

I’ve been caught out the same way with being in the “slow” lane and being forced into taking the turn. In the States especially where the “Off Ramp” isn’t part of a roundabout or junction.

I don’t know if it’s still the same – just checked and IT IS – the Give Way to the Right ( Priorite a Droit ) – has caught me out a few times in France. That whole scenario is complicated by the confusion as to whether it still exists/do people still recognise the need to obey/can they be bothered!!

The other problem you get as a Brit driving a LHD vehicle is at gear-change time – when habit/instinct takes over. The number of occasions my left hand has reached out for the gear lever and found the door handle!!

I did the same – but opposite – thing. Back in the 70’s we were over in Spain, having driven down through France, between Alicante and Benidorm. There was a Go-Kart track we just had to have a go on, being mid 20’s at the time. We had a great time – spent about 2 hours there. When we came out, we were so busy talking about it, I just turned left out of the entrance – with about the same reaction from my mates as your SiL.

That feeling always stood me in good stead for any foreign driving later on in life.

With Tin Star, I was hopeful, but it was slow on Ep 1, so I was dubious, but with all the hit-men nonsense in Ep2 I gave it the elbow!! Shame, because he’s a good actor, but those hit men would have blended in Lock, Stock…….etc, but not in Canada.

Also, the top North Star oil man was played by the “Swede” from Hell on Wheels, and he was a character that dragged on for too, too long.

On the YT video, at about 30 seconds, you can see the ( very elongated ohms sign ) pillar being pushed through the board and card, then the spring being pushed over it, in prep for the components to be connected and spring-tensioned. It was a very well thought out system ( for the time)!!

I had one of THESE in ’63/64. It was great fun using the cards on the boards with spring loaded terminals. Very few HR connections and no dangerous hot soldering iron for a 12 year old’s Mum to worry about.

Despite having access to all sort of soldering kit while working for the GPO, THIS was one of the handiest I ever used. Lasted for years until I couldn’t get replacement batteries for it any more.

Seen a story titled yesterday, “sex dolls could be hacked to kill their owners” or something like that. I didn’t bother reading it, but it made me laugh.

Was it Tales of the Unexpected” 21st Century style??

Us chaps have got enough problems with our other half’s Intelligence!! If these Sex Dolls had AI, what chance would we stand!! Just imagine ” You only want me for one thing!! When was the last time you took me out?? ”

Moto model numbering is confusing. That’s the not quite as good specs and 720P as opposed to 1080P screen, but it does have NFC. Still a bloody good deal though. Asked the Mrs yesterday if she wanted one, but she’s quite happy with her 4.3″ Moto E. It looks like the new Moto G5 is the one to go for at the £150 ish price point. Still no NFC though.

I’m still keeping an eye on one of those. The 3GB Dual Sim is up for £165 on Amazon, down £20 from March when it was released. I’ve got NFC on my Xperia, but disabled it as I don’t use contactless.

I will record and watch all of “Tin Star” which looks OK from a distance: if it does not live up to expectations and/or I cannot record all in time, I’m off.

Episodes 1-10 are all available for download now. ( Plus 2 “specials”). I watched Ep1 last night – found it a bit slow. Jury’s out atm – will wait to see if Ep2 livens up.

Series 7 of GoT was always going to be the set-up for Series 8. With only 7 episodes it would have been rushed to conclude the battle and defeat? of the “Dead Army” and it’s King. I’m looking forward to the special effects and battles that they have done so well, so far.

That has completely p****d me off and is the final nail in the coffin for me, of a greedy broadcaster and media company which sucks the last penny out of customers for the least effort.

Not defending MurkyDog, but that was probably down to a decision by the writers/production company that decided to play it that way.
