Unfortunately the “old days” of an all round education have been substituted for degrees in “x” but no common-sense/broad perspective in sight! The opportunity to have a team that can be left to it’s own devices and produce timely results is long gone. Hence the need for everything to be compartmentalised into two week “Scrums” by someone who can pull it all together. Still, I suppose it gives my son the chance to earn some bl**dy good money!??

The NHS is a nightmare IT-wise. My son works as a Project Manager/ScrumMaster for a company that the NHS has contracted to, to develop some software systems.

At this point they have had to lay off developers – and my son’s contract renewal in October is in doubt – as the NHS cannot react to requests for detail/info/parameters/work in a timely fashion, and, unbeleivably, have tried to write penalty clauses into the long term contract, for failure to meet their project dates!!!

        It just beggars belief!!

There’s supposed to be some big deals coming up on Amazon from noon on Monday to midnight Tuesday next week ( 1 1/2  days for some reason!! ) so it might be worth checking prices then to see if your decided-on item is on a deal.

I’ve had similar problems with the initial Anniversary Edition Update ( 1706?)  and then the Fall Creators Update ( 1803 ). 1706 eventually installed ( somehow ?) but luckily I’m on an unlimited BB as it kept downloading, trying to install ( and failed ) but kept trying to download each time. I tried DL’ing the iso to do it manually but it still failed. Then one night it just went through?.

With 1803 it started to go through the same routine, but I got fed up with it and installed the iso to an SSD and then re-installed all my programmes. It’s currently sitting there on the SSD and ticking over nicely so far:).?

I copied all my documents to a spare 1TB drive and I’m in the process of tidying that all up so it should seem transparent to the OS. The previous set up is still on the original 1TB drive. JIC!!

I agree 100% but once in No 10 the dynamic changes. At such point he will have far greater authority and be able to impose his (and John D’s) will somewhat more forcefully. Many Tories Brexiteer voters now see him as their only hope of a true Brexit. I’m not sure I can argue against that. We really do live in interesting times when a substantial number of traditional Tory voters now see the Labour leader as most likely to deliver what they want.

Hey you – don’t count me in with that lot!!! ??

I may well be a lifelong Labour supporter, but I won’t vote Labour so long as he fronts them. I know a good few people that feel the same way. With him leading them I just see Labour as un-electable☹ ( but with him as leader, I wouldn’t want them to win)!!

I think Dave has it summed up – so long as the vocal extremes of both main parties are at the forefront/headlines of any negotiations, be that Brexit or just plain governing the country, nothing suitable or appropriate will be achieved. The problem is that tough times bring about extreme circumstances, so the middle ground/centrist thinking gets overshadowed by knee jerk reactions.

In the light of my political leanings it will probably seem strange that I held out most hope for the UK ( at that time ) when the LibDems had a hand in “adjusting” what the Tories did – didn’t that just turn to cr*p??!!

@bullstuff2 given you know where the pump is on a mk1 ka, do you know where the relay is housed for the radiator fan. I thought it would be in the fuse box, it’s not, (unless it’s above it), there is two 60amp (iirc) fuses right next to the positive terminal on the battery. I think one controls/connected to the cooling fan, (thou the diagram I’ve seen also says the 20amp fuse (number 20) also is. So I’m a bit confused. Also i cant seem to see any relays at all. I think a Haynes manual may be on the cards later. Given I’ve spent 40 years avoiding getting oil on my hands, I’m enjoying the messing around. Probably cos, i cant really make to much damage (cost wise) to an old ka. Sun helps too. Woke up this morning with tight hamstings lol, mustn’t of used them in a while.

Steve – it’s the green relay ( top left of the three rows of 4 above 4 above 5 relays along with 14 fuses ) in a box underneath the instument panel. I’ve got the Owner’s Guide for the wife’s KA (52 ).

I’ve got a pdf scan but can’t get it onto the forum!!

One crazy situation regarding saucepans came from many years ago when the MiL was alive.

It was her birthday coming up and we were determined to get her something useful as a present as opposed to another brass ornament for her hubby to polish. We saw that she needed some new saucepans so we went to John Lewis and bought a prettily enamelled set of Tower non-stick saucepans. Best part of £150.

We’d also been on holiday and brought her back an onyx smokers set – ashtray, cigarette box and lighter.

Bonus pressie – a snazzy ironing board.

Well – she thought the smokers set was too pretty to use, so it stood on the coffee table in her “posh” front room, that she used for visitors and anybody that went to use the ashtray or lighter got told off!!!

The saucepans were such a pretty pattern that she sellotaped the lids on and hung them from the kitchen ceiling. Not long after she did that, the condensation and heat that is ever present in kitchens de-stickied the sellotape and one of the lids fell down on the old man’s head, so she superglued the lids on!!!

She did however get 10 years out of the ironing board.

I told the wife never again and resorted to buying her knick knacks from then on.

TT seem to do a lot of heavy marketing, though personally I can place no faith in them.

I’m similar to you on that score – but I tend to use TT prices to persuade Sky to give me a better deal than they want to.

I’m lucky in respect that I’ve had a solid 18Meg download for the last 3 years, I think it’s dropped to 13/14 on the odd time but not really worse than that, but I struggle to get more than 0.8 u/l and with more cloud backup services around, I’m hankering for 40/10 fibre!! Also Virgin have just cabled our road/village/District so that will add a bit of leverage when it comes to deal with Sky. I’m already out of contract.?

It’s time to be quietly optimistic!! You’re probably right, the silence is either not wishing to tempt fate after some good promising results or sitting there waiting for more good news to arrive.

We’ve been here before ( more than once ) and felt the pain after getting our hopes up. It’s something us Brits should be used to in everything from Eurovision to Rugby to the Ashes, from World championship Athletics to the Olympics (discounting our recent successes )!!

I bought two versions of these some time ago, one similar to yours, which has sat in the drawer and been used once and an HDD docking station. That has turned out to be the most useful addition for dealing with odd HDD’s of all shapes and sizes.

THIS is the one I got, came out in 2012/13 and THESE are what is around at the moment. On Amazon, if you look closely in the spiel, they say when the item first came to market – that way you won’t be buying outdated stuff.

The wife is similar – awkward bastard as well!! – when she’s at the dentist it takes double the usual amount for her to stop feeling anything when they drill, plus when she had some injections in her spine, she was still awake and ended up telling the anesthetist that. He stopped the op and increased the dose ( again nearly double ) until she did fall asleep!!

Did they tell you that the Gabapentin is to relieve nerve pain at all?? That’s what they prescribed for me when I had shingles earlier this year.

I was already taking co-codamol for the pain in my knees and thought it would also cover the shingles – it didn’t. Co-codamol ( codeine and paracetamol ) is for muscle/joint pain or toothache/headache pain. Where the shingles attacked the nerves it required a different approach. They gave me 100mg three times a day, but upped it to 300mg three times a day which allowed me to sleep lying down for the first time in a fortnight.

                                        Good luck with the treatment.

So now I am wondering if it could be the Powered Steering Oil. Or could it be something else. It’s worrying as I have a month of daily (Mon-Fri) hospital visits.

John – the oil can light that comes on on the display is to tell you to either top up the oil or book a service, depending on your model. All cars tell different tales.

Possibly it’s a loose connection or an intermittent wiring fault that’s bringing up the light when you move the wheel. Needs to be looked at, but not likely to be teminal.

The one thing you can be reasonably sure of, it is highly unlikely to have anything to do with the Power Steering fluid. That rarely has a warning light dedicated to it.
