An Epoxy glue like Araldite should work well and it is extremely heat resistant. Just make sure the surface is grease free and that you get the standard Araldite, not the rapid.
Graham – the only problem with using Araldite is that it’s working temperature range is only up to 204C :-
Araldite® EP 300 A/B Adhesive is an extrudable, two-component, roomtemperature curing epoxy adhesive designed for service temperatures up to 400°F (204°C).
The silicon I linked to in the first post has a range up to 300C, a temperature only reached on some self-clean programmes on ovens. They normally only go up to 250C on a cook setting.
It’s been down 6 years now since the extension was built and there are some heavy wear patches, both sides of under the table, under my chair at the desk, by the side of my TV chair and footstool, in front of the sofa where the wife sits to watch TV, so a full job can be justified, however messy!! Plus they wouldn’t sit well with the wife’s aesthetics!! I’ll get them to use a hard matt varnish and that should resist the dreaded castors for a while and I can laways touch in where needed at a later stage. Either that or get some CUPS to do the job.?
A little late on the timing, but I’ve been running some ideas through my head for some time now to update my computer desk/corner. The wife has decided that we need a new dining table and chairs plus sideboard so I’m going to build ( well buy and modify ) a new set up.
Currently comprises :-
I’ve already started by removing a 6′ x 2′ shelving unit that was a glorified storage/dump from the right hand wall, replaced it with the drawer unit and printer while the shelves are now in the garage as extra storage.
Current plan is to replace it with 4 of THESE of which 2 will be used complete and one will be utilised to form the cupboard for the computer base unit and the other to provide a lower shelf and keyboard shelf as per the current setup.
THIS will be used for the top surface/frame with the side extension spliced onto the main top to provide the full length needed.
I won’t be adding a monitor shelf as I’ve got one of THESE which will tidy the top up nicely and leave less dumping places.
That’ll keep me busy for a bit. Also buying a proper computer chair to replace the carver currently used as it seems carvers are out of fashion. That means a sand and varnish on the wood floor, but the wife wants to get someone in to do that!!??
Thanks EdP and Steve, that sounds like an option. Whether I’ll need it much is moot, as most of the over 30 years old photos are either black and white, or just drunken attendees at my weekly parties. Nothing of a serious note that needs remembering,………..if you know what I mean………!!
I do have a few photos that came with a problem, an horizontal orange hue across 90% of the photo – family members and setting still visible. A note that they came when they were developed suggested an out of date film!! That will be worth trying PS on, as it was Mum and Dad’s 50th Wedding Anniversary.
I’m in the process of scanning a lifetime of photos kept in the loft in a couple of apple boxes. That’s what triggered the thought.
I’ll use Google photos to sort and organise into albums and Google drive to store them. The My Picture libraries that they will appear in will also get backed up on One Drive, plus a couple of external hard disks for good measure.
You could always – with knowledge beforehand – leave the photo on the glass and scan the ( intact ) image before attempting separation. That way you may have lost the original, but you still have a digital copy.?
Had a bad Chemo Day today, this has made me happy again.
Whatever works, Bob. Take the high and stuff the low.
Good luck with the continuation of the fireplace removal saga, glad to hear of some progress. What’s the latest on your BT/OR/Plusnet situation? Hopefully a similarly successful resolution waiting in the wings.
I’ve just upgraded to fibre and am just around the corner from the cabinet so I’m getting 37.8 /l and 9.4 u/l after a week. You should get a marked improvement from your current mediocre connection.
John – THIS looks to be the cheapest solution @<£3. You’re right to be concerned, but £12 is fine for trade professionals, but for a lone DIY’er it’s a rip off.
That’s good to hear on both counts. You just have to hope that the R&M boss doesn’t come down to supervise – although I reckon there’s a part of you that would like to see him, if only to vent your spleen on him!! ( if you’ve still got it that is !!?? )
Apologies upfront if that is too near the mark, but I just couldn’t let that one pass me by.??
It’s got recordings of everything you’ve said after the wife left the room and when it comes to replacement time ( PC, not wife ) it’ll demand to be upgraded, not discarded, or it’ll play them as background music whenever the wife’s in the room.
That’s the downside of AI!!??
3 – 5 litres of water a day meets my definition of perpetual motion – I’d be standing in the bathroom with a glass in one hand and something else in the other!!!
Regarding missing the vein, on one of my treatments I mentioned a slight burning sensation as the treatment started and a whole series of events started. They stopped the infusion, photographed the cannula in situ, flushed it with saline iirc, took me to one of the day beds away from the chairs, and I spent the rest of the afternoon monitored, checked and obs taken. It felt like the only thing missing was the klaxon!! More photos were taken during the aftrenoon of the injection site and the ensuing red patch. The conclusion was the cannula had gone into the vein and just out of the other side, wrong angle of approach.
What I like about the Marsden is they use a problem as a learning exercise.
Different subject, the latest dietary discovery is that our boarding dogs think their meal is greatly improved by the addition of chopped broccoli and cauliflower. They leap up from sleeping and clear the veg perhaps leaving the odd trace of dog food.
Veg in all brands/varieties/mixtures of dog food is something that I’ve noticed in the last few years. It started off in the “healthy living” niche of the market but has spread to general usage.
Peas. peppers, carrots, rice ( less so potatoes ), make regular appearances in the food our boarders bring with them.
The most outrageous this far has been THIS. £2.50 a TIN!!! But then, the ingredients read like a human dish.
Chicken (60%); Potatoes (4%); Sugar Snap Peas (2%) Carrots, Spinach, Apples, Vitamins and Chelated Minerals, Herbs, Safflower Oil
After my pancreatic cancer op in April this year, and during the first stages of the ensuing chemotherapy, drugs, etc, I was informed that I would need to see an NHS Dietitian. I was told at Castle Hill Cancer ward that this was a must, because there are certain things I cannot eat or drink, certain periods between meals and sizes of meals that I must stick to. Here we are in August and I am no wiser: there are apparently so few NHS dietitians that none is available for me until November. Maybe… I carried out my own research of course, which led to several conflicting sources of information. Therefore I decided to use my own commonsense. I drink alcohol very rarely, usually a white wine Spritzer. I eat in moderation and try to avoid processed foods, red meat and other foods that may be harmful. I drink no tap water here, ours is very hard water, so I drink several liters of “Highland spring” water a week. I eat chicken, fish and the (very) occasional Steak and kidney pie, with few potatoes and lots of veg, which I love. I take a little sugar on my cereal, nothing else. By the time this dietitian has got around to telling me what I should or should not eat and drink, I will have fixed my own diet. If his/her instructions conflict with my own choices, I will probably say yes/no and go my own way. Not the Fault of the NHS, simply the fact that what was supposed to support my recovery, is one more Lost Factor.
The Marsden issued a booklet to me called “Eating well when you have cancer”. There’s a pdf on the Marsden website. LINK.
I found it areally useful reference. Plain advice, no preaching. Hope you find it useful.??
PS – as you’ll read in the book, you’re not drinking enough water. One consultant told me that more water will help dilute the toxins in the body – I asked him wouldn’t it dilute the treatment also – he didn’t have an answer for me!! However, I’ve been told on several occassions, by several health professionals, that I should drink more water – I still find it a struggle.
John – that seems very long-winded and very hands on.
I use Windows Media Player with W10 for my music on the PC. I create playlists for the car, then drag and drop them onto the memory card. I can then either play it off the memory card or install it onto the internal HDD in the car.
Yes, I did realise where you were coming from. It seemed to me that ONLY the picture settings and the “quality” control could help. All the other settings should not affect the “jumping” at all.The monitor itself chooses the settings (1920 X nnnn), and the prog fixes itself on that. But another job on the back burner for a few days. Thanks, Les.
?
The first screen shown in your link (JayCeeDee) showed a lower screen definition to mine, and as I said, it can not be changed in the setup screen.
@oldles – that was just the last image I looked at – the idea was there were so many settings screens, you might be able to make comparisons for some common settings. That’s what I took to be your problem, the default settings were empty on the install from Mint 19.Whichever way it goes, good luck with it.
I’ve just been looking around and found THIS. Presuming this is now in effect there must be an easy way to connect if OR aren’t replacing faulty white boxes.?
Dave – I see a site visit to North Wales in your future?? – you could earn a living out of this, you know!!??
If you’re going to reply with an emoji, please make sure you get it ✌the right way round!
From my days with TT years ago, when I also ditched their router for a better Netgear one, the login is a mixture of your email/name/telephone number, password was TT’s version too, but they didn’t withhold it like Sky do, so just ask them.
Les – I know nothing of Linux, but doing a bit of Googling, I saw some screen grabs which show the settings ( default or otherwise I don’t know ) and thought of Googling the images.
The result was THIS. There are loads of images of the settings pages. Maybe you’ll find an appropriate one and follow it from there.
Good luck.
