I have just checked and Settings\Windows Update tells me I’m up to date.

Confusingly winver tells me I’m on Version 1809 ( OS Build 17758.1 ) which on checking Update History I find it was installed 15/09/20108.

Are MS sulking because I came off the Insider Program?? I highly doubt it, but I can’t work out why WU is clearly telling me the wrong thing.

On checking further in the Update History it showed me that the Windows Defender Definition Updates had failed to install, so I activated WD, despite having Kaspersky Internet Security working, and it has updated to today’s definitions. Do I need to disable WD or can two AV’s work in sync ( I had always thought otherwise). Updating WD has made no difference to Windows Update which still shows me on 1809, but apparently up to date!!

PS – Windows Update Troubleshooter couldn’t see a problem.

I saw on the news from Lincolnshire, those pumps chuck out 4 tons of water a second. It looked like a dam draining out!!!

Tax cuts first and grind the peasants down to pay. An obvious General Election vote-winner! (sarcasm)

The only problem I have with the above statement is that the General Population, bless ’em, only ever hear, and fall for, the former tax cuts, and seem blissfully unaware of the reality of the latter!!!

On last nights performance, the dream ticket ( yeah, really?? ) or maybe the least damaging, would be a Hunt/Stewart partnership. I think that Rory Stewart’s performance was more down to the dire format of the programme.

Where was Andrew Neill grilling them in a Question Time format??!!

A up Davey ravey gravey can you post the link to the cpu comparison chart. Sounds juicy. ?

Just Google “any processor vs any other processor” and up will pop the comparison sites. HERE is the result of the old time overclockers favourite of yesteryear the Q6600  vs todays biggie i7 9700K.

Are they temporary, for the duration of the event, see my comment from another topic, before seeing this.

                    ??

I never arrive at any position without giving it an awful lot of thought. Indeed, I have often been chased for decisions long before I have reached one. But once I arrive at one I find it impossible not to argue and fully support it to the best of my ability.

                    Yes, that’s very noticeable.?

My definition of a ‘Forum’ is; A venue specifically for debating?

The problem only arises because there are various types of that forum – face to face and the written word. The former has the added benefit of interpretation via body language, tone, even facial expression. The latter is totally devoid of those and even a missing/inaccurate punctuation mark can lead to mis-interpreting.

But your words make me wonder if others’ definitions of what a Forum is are some what different. Ed, tends always to ‘play the ball’ and join in debate. Others however are more inclined to rapidly turn things personal. It occurs to me that possibly just possibly that might be because their view of what a Forum is is different. Hence they find or believe my reflex position which inclines to earnest debate to be unjustified or out of place. They therefore attack me ‘for debating’ rather than attack the arguments tendered in debate, if you see what I mean.

Play nice – everything is calming down here, even if the political situation is hotting up!! Consider the above remarks re interpretation!! The same words can be considered placatory or argumentative/provocative.

Your comments may well be off the cuff, but they come from both a perspective and an origin that is hard wired into your DNA. Hence your love of debate. Dare I say that that is the cause for people’s strong ( adverse ) reactions to your posts that then go on to upset you.
You grab a statistic or a concept or a poll and go on to analyse it in a way that seems to be ramming it down our throats and you justify it by the fact that you had thought it through.
Were it to be a premise, rather than a lecture it might have been better received.
That’s not to say that the end premise/conclusion is ( of necessity ) wrong, it just could have had a better journey.

NB Intended as constructive comment, not criticism or trying to start an argument. ?

My response was tongue in cheek, JCD, so perhaps I should have put that in the joke section as well.

Tongue in cheek or not when you see the below as your opening statement :-

What do you mean it doesn’t sound as good on the job description front?

and you follow it with your statement of feelings :-

The evidence is quite the reverse.

it’s difficult to see which way to take it. Had that been from a less verbose person I could have seen the possibility to take it as tongue in cheek, but your posts, your words and the arguments you place behind them are not off the cuff.

Bank of Ireland and a few more. Bank of Yemen or Bank of Baroda anyone ?

Those last three probably reflect the local population overview from the last couple of decades.

What do you mean it doesn’t sound as good on the job description front?

It meant that the ‘tarted up’ description of Professional Rogues’ was less descriptive or accurate than “Liars, cheats and con-artists” – what did you think I meant??

Maybe I should have put it into the ‘Joke’ section, in case you mis-interpreted it as political comment!!

I think that the latest word to come out of Parliament is quite appropriate – prorogue – that’s just  what they are, a bunch of professional rogues!!

If anything, it goes a bit soft on them, but then “Liars, cheats and con-artists” just doesn’t sound so good on the job description front, even though it’s more accurate!!

My son just left a poker evening with his firm and the boss is a bit serious about the game. True or not, I don’t know, but he said his wedding vows went a bit like this:-

It all starts with two hearts and a diamond, but ends up needing a club and a spade!!

                                I liked that anyway!!??

A couple of the jokes cracked me up.

(Seaside town ) …is a lot like Vegas – you can get sex for chips!!!

Went on a blind date, the girl was stunning, but looked about 14. I cleared off, after all I was a TV entertainer from the 70’s!!!

He also had a few updates of the Insurance claims forms… can’t remember them, but they were good too.

Well, it was a great concert – Jasper was in fine form doing two thirty minute stints and Bev was top notch!! They did a couple of 45 minute sessions that included everything from Long John Baldry to a Quo medley via some Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis ,Little Richard, Righteous Brothers and many others with an excellent female vocalist – Suzi Dian – adding some Carole King and Aretha Franklin. Even the Funky Moped paid a short visit!! Overall a most enjoyable evening.

Only criticism I had is Jasper still uses a handheld mike and his arm muscles aren’t what they used to be so you missed the odd puchline as he doesn’t stand still for much. I always thought the ear mounted mike looked a bit daft, but they do give consistent sound.

The comparisons show you’ll notice a big difference between those CPU’s.

                                      See HERE and HERE.

It’s the same CPU as I’ve got here and I moved from a G3 series CPU. It showed. They’re both the same TDP ( power consumption ) so your existing cooler will suffice.

At £34 I’d go for it!!

If you haven’t got one already, it may be time to introduce an SSD into the mix. My system is about the same age as yours and when I loaded the OS onto an SSD and used my old disc as just a data drive I saw a big speed difference and it just felt quicker and slicker.

Ignore me if you’ve already done that!!??

Another music question: who was the British star that Phil Everly made a record with, in the UK? I have this single and it’s a rarity.

Would that be our Cilla ?   or Cliff?? ( Google was my friend!!) Also from the big G, Roy started out with Gerry Levene & the Avengers then Mike Sheridan & the Nightriders.

Bev Bevan turned pro with Denny ( Laine ) and the Diplomats before Denny left to form the Moody Blues and Bev split to join the Move.

Bev later played with Black Sabbath and was great mates with John Bonham and later with Robert Plant. In fact, had Robert Plant wanted to keep Led Zeppelin going after John Bonham died, Bev was earmarked for the spot.

Overflowing with rock info, all gleaned from disappearing down the YT and Google rabbit hole!!??

I’m off tomorrow night with the missus to go and see Jasper Carrott’s Stand Up and Rock at the Margate Winter Gardens. Been there a couple of times before for dinner shows and the like, but not for an act.

He’s supported on the tours by the Bev Bevan band which hits my music sweet spot from his days with The Move and ELO along with Geoff Turton from the Rockin’ Berries.
