I used FB Marketplace last month and was very impressed with it too.

We’d just bought a ‘new’** ( ex-photoshoot/display ) sofa and recliner for the lounge and needed to move the old one on. It was 7 years old but still in very good condition. We didn’t want anything for it, as when we were starting up years ago, we would have loved to have found something like it for those first few years.

We put the ad in and within an hour had had three replies. We dealt with them in order and when the first one came back and said she couldn’t get them transported, she dropped out and we went with the next. They popped round that evening and both wanted it and could move it. We arranged for them to collect it on the Bank Holiday Monday as the new set was coming the following day. It was a young family and they were just moving in to their first home. They were delighted with it and also took the  matching rugs, mirror  and wall art, which saved us a trip to the charity shop.

** We were very impressed with the company on ebay – they specialised in ex-display/photoshoot and when they arrived, you couldn’t tell they weren’t new. We got the 3 seater sofa ( in Fenwicks for £3ooo ) the electric recliner ( £1400 ) for £700 and £800 respectively. SWMBO is delighted. Company is HERE . They’re in Rochdale, but delivery to Kent was still free.

Only downside to the whole experience was because the suite was blue, the room had to be redecorated, so the old red chimney breast got stripped and re-wallpapered in pale blue, the brown blinds at both windows got replaced with grey ones, brown rug went into the front room replaced by a blue/grey one, the walls needed to be re-painted a shade or two lighter and the curtains at the patio door needed to be changed. We got a new waste bin in a soft grey, but couldn’t find a newspaper rack that matched, so I painted the old brown faux leather one grey, and it worked!!

That’s the one downside to having a co-ordinated colour scheme and changing a core item!!! But it kept me out of mischief for a while.

I switched from FF about three years ago – and I went to Chrome….. I’ve found it superb overall, can’t really think of any major hiccups. It’s slightly memory heavy, but I’ve got 8Gb so it doesn’t really impact too much. 16Gb and I would never notice.

I don’t notice any slowdowns, but when opening Task Manager it shows 60 – 80% total memory usage, depending on how many pages and tabs I have open – mostly quite a few!! Currently at 70% with 1 x 9-tab page and 1 x 1-tab streaming radio page.

Instructions below for importing into Chrome what you need from FF.

        Import bookmarks & settings
You can switch browsers without losing your settings and all the bookmarks for your favourite websites. Depending on the browser that you used, your settings can include the following info:

        browsing history
        default homepage
        bookmarks
        default search engines
        saved passwords
        Add bookmarks to Chrome

To import bookmarks from most browsers, such as Firefox, Internet Explorer and Safari:

        On your computer, open Chrome.
At the top-right, click More  .
Select Bookmarks   Import Bookmarks and Settings.
Select the program that contains the bookmarks that you’d like to import.
        Click Import.
        Click Finished.

        Info from HERE .

Have a long hot soak in the bath and forget about today – large brandy/whatever, afterwards and an early night.

Tomorrow can only be better!! Good luck.👍👍

For me at least, it refused to play my local music, and would constantly try to stream, no matter what settings I used.

I don’t use it much at all, and don’t have music streaming, but Google Music Play works its way through my music library – just checked Storage and GMP shows 2.4Gb of music and audio. Music folder on my PC is 10Gb+ don’t know what I rationed onto the G5. I’ve got loads of space on the 64Gb memory card, ( only 2.6Gb used  – half apps and half ‘other’ ) but it all seems to be on internal phone storage. ( 1.6Gb spare out of 16Gb. )

Well, the conference speech is over, but I couldn’t believe the music they used. I only picked up on it at the end as he left the podium, but checking the speech on the Telegraph website it was at the beginning as well.

              Baba O’Reilly, by the Who.

Let me quote the lyrics and see whether you think they’re apt, or just a mix of pessimism, optimism, truth, bluster……truly typical!!

              I’m here in the fields
              I fight for my meals
I get back into my living
              I don’t need to fight
              To prove I’m right
I don’t need to be forgiven

              Don’t cry
              Don’t raise your eye
              It’s only teenage wasteland

              Don’t cry
              Don’t raise your eye
              It’s only teenage wasteland

              Shall I take my hand
              Travel south cross the land
Put out the fire and don’t look past my shoulder
              The accidents is here
              The happy water is here
Let’s get together before we get much older

              Teenage wasteland
              It’s only teenage wasteland
              Teenage wasteland
              It’s only teenage wasteland
              They are all wasting

              I’m here in the fields
              I fight for my meals
I get back into my living
              I don’t need to fight
              To prove I’m right
I don’t need to be forgiven

I fight for my meals – must ring true with anyone using a food bank.

I don’t need to fight, To prove I’m right, I don’t need to be forgiven – that’s exactly how he comes across.

It’s only teenage wasteland – don’t hold your breath for the youth vote, Boris.

The accidents is here, The happy water is here, Let’s get together before we get much older – well he’s certainly hoping we’re drinking the happy water!! and if he’s hoping to get Parliament together, before we get any older – yes, indeed, he’s probably drinking some himself!!

If you’re on holiday and spend more than 2 hours a day on the phone then I think you are doing something wrong 😁

Totally agree, but it’s not always planned!!

Some years ago ( 8 – 9 ) we went to France to visit family we’d not seen for some time. While we were there, there was a death in the family and as the eldest the wife became co-ordinator and remote organiser for the funeral. We came back to a £250 bill, so £70 looks good – even though it needed organising prior to departure, but some sort of cap would be a better way forward.

Unfortunately the user base ( in most cases, loyal, ) has just been fodder for the profiteers of the mobile environment. They are getting better though.

we have about 10 pubs all in shart walking distance

Sorry Steve, but this one tickled me 😂 (Definition of a shart for those who don’t know: https://www.google.com/search?q=shart)

…..and if you’d been to most or all of those ten pubs, that could have been a likely outcome!!😡😉

That looks like it’s an automatic outdoors version of what I had with EE – their Signal Box.

it was a very good system whereby if you had insufficient signal indoors, then your calls were made via the Signal Box connected to your broadband.

The O2 version seems to be lots of ‘out in the big wide world’ WiFi access points that do the same thing.

The answer is, yes, they were brilliant, but as you say, you might realise when indoors, but outside, do you actually notice when making a call whether it’s via 4G or WiFi??

I doubt very much that people do.

Rather, I think if BoJo does not pull an EU rabbit out of the hat within the next week, there WILL be a successful motion of no confidence in his slimy Government, but then someone such as Ken Clark will stand up and say that he has sufficient support from all parties to go to the Queen and form an interim Government to sort out the mess that the mendacious BoJo and his untrustworthy gang have caused, and promise to negotiate (a soft) Brexit with the EU, then set up a referendum to either approve this or remain. Following this he will stand down for a General Election.

Ken Clarke certainly has the political heritage and credentials to be up to that task, but I’m not sure he’s physically up to it. He is now looking very old and frail, it is only down to the fact that he was of a solid stature prior to now, that he doesn’t look ‘iller’ or more frail than he does. His health might not allow him to take on the huge stress, although his character ( and I avoid ego, purposefully,) would certainly be up to the task, plus he may see it it as a worthwhile opportunity to go down in history as the  one who pulled the country out from the political mire, the way Churchill did during wartime years in the 40’s.

Add to that the whispers in his ear from his current, frequent Back Bench neighbour ( TM ) who knows what could occur!!

Moreover those seats are areas (such as Wales and the NE) where the locals would never vote Tory in a hundred years so the Tories lose nothing or very, very little if he adopts such targeting.

I have an older Welsh friend, ( started life very poor working class, but who became head teacher at an Oxford school )  and one of her expressions that comes up a lot at the moment, is ” Time was you could have a pit-pony as a candidate in most Welsh elections, and so long as it had a red rosette, it would win!!”😀😀

I had it off ebay as a non booter (spares/repair).

I repaired it (now boots) I just can’t get the the screen to react to touch.

It would seem there were multiple faults on it when the last guy got rid of it. Some you’ve been able to clear, but others just seem to keep coming back, along with fresh ones.

Sell it on again, as spares/repair and go for a different one. You might have better luck with that. It’s a lottery really.

I see from a blackboard outside Argos that EE have joined the fun, but at at the right price.

That piqued my interest as Sky Mobile messed me around with a discount recently, so I checked online to see what packages EE were doing.

Imagine my surprise to get a call from EE broadband today, “following up on my enquiry”!! Thinking about it I entered my landline number in their web form to see what speed I could get!! Will think twice before doing that again.

This whole debate – outside of here and inside – is reminiscent of somebody arguing with Mystic Meg that her prediction for next weeks lottery numbers are wrong.

Each side will think they’re right and the other is wrong. Each could be right, each could be wrong.

The biggest problem is with the recycling community – by that I mean Councils, Recycling centres and their ilk.

They expect the population who do their best to recycle as much as they can, to abide by a set of rules that has failure built in.

Our local Council regulations permit thing like plastic trays that held steaks, chops, mince, vegetables and the like, to be recycled. The plastic cover however, is non-recyclable. Plastic bottles can be recycled, but not their lids.

Blue lidded bin or blue box – mixed recycling

Empty aerosol cans – without their lids.
Washed-out plastic bottles including drinks bottles, milk bottles, cleaning fluid bottles (for example washing up liquid bottles), clean shampoo bottles – without their lids.

                                      Plastic film.
                                      Polystyrene.
Drinking glasses, light bulbs, oven-proof glass, sheet glass or window panes.

Here, it says, no plastic bags or liners, no plastic film and no polystyrene. So just where does that go – into general rubbish and thereby into landfill, or perhaps to some supermarkets who have plastic bag recycling, but excludes film.
If you’re recycling paper, there must be no plastic included – so what do you do with bubble wrap envelopes?? Landfill. Plastic film and polystyrene, nappies and pet waste wrapped in plastic bags are all acceptable in general waste ( landfill ).

Don’t put loose domestic waste into your black lidded bin – please put your waste into bags and then into your bin. You can also buy wheeled sized big bin liners from your local supermarket to help keep your wheeled bin clean.

                                      Fluorescent tubes.

They don’t want you to put loose domestic waste into bins, you should ( plastic ) bag it individually or use a wheelie bin liner ( plastic ) to contain it within your bin.
They really do want their cake and eat it, leaving the regular householder confused and in some cases adding plastic to go into landfill.

The supermarkets  are OK with you recycling LDPE ( plastic carrier bags ) but don’t want HDPE ( Amazon/Ebay/Post Office plastic parcel Bags ).
It’s just one big ball of confusion!!

They should step up and include anything recyclable to go in together, move it/sell it to a proper recycling centre that separates the different categories and actually recycles/re-uses them all.

                                      Rant over!!

JayCeeDee: I should have said that I made my own A5 book. It started as an A to Z WHS book and got so badly scribbled over that it became illegible in parts, as I change some passwords regularly. So I used Open Office to make my own template of A5 pages (actually A4 pages, split horizontally) and bought a cheap plastic A5 ring binder. A to Z is set up as individual text boxes and I just retype one page, print and change it in the folder. A lot of work to start with, but once the system is working, it’s easy to keep it up.

Nice one.👍 Obviously a combination from your print job and a tidy mind!! Or if you’re like me, a tad OCD!!😀

                                          Hello John,

Hope that helps anybody having problems.

Bob, I also have an A5 book ( A – Z  phone number style ) that has all my login and passwords.

Ed, I had reservations similar to yours initially, however, reading the following gave me confidence.

                                          Strong encryption algorithms.
We’ve implemented AES-256 bit encryption with PBKDF2 SHA-256 and salted hashes to ensure complete security in the cloud. You’ll create a password manager account with an email address and a strong master password to locally-generate a unique encryption key.

                                          Local-only encryption.
Your data is encrypted and decrypted at the device level. Data stored in your vault is kept secret, even from LastPass. Your master password, and the keys used to encrypt and decrypt data, are never sent to LastPass’ servers, and are never accessible by LastPass.

If LastPass cannot decrypt the information, then nobody else should. Providing your Master Password is of sufficient strength it should suffice.
