BL, gave me a laugh!
I’ve been called lots of things in my life, but BL is a new one!!😋
Bob, that’s fantastic news!!!😀😀👍👍
However, for the great raconteur that you undoubtedly are, I feel that I need to pass on a few tips to you.
When you start a story :-“This was the result of a really bad period over a week ago, ” and proceed to tell of cameras, blood and gore, it all feels like you’ve gone a bit transgenic on us!!!😆😂 Next time you have a rant, shall we put it down to PMT??!!
Did you install the TomTom app?
Yes, Richard, I installed it about 2 years ago and used it in my old car, separately from the SatNav and it did brilliantly, warning me of fixed cameras, if I went over the limit by 5% a gentle “double tinkle” and if I went 10 or more over, a more strident triple tinkle. Also it put numbers to your actual average speed through average speed zones. It warned you of congestion ahead and actually gave distance to the traffic jam you were in, so you could tell if it was worth taking a divert or not. It was just a perfect little app that sat on your phone, or, with later cars, or ones with Android Auto, could show the app display overlaid onto a map.
Then they got ambitious and screwed it up!!
It’s still useful, on it’s own on the phone, but it is more finicky to set it up for best use.
I regularly get 6 – 10 app updates every other day, which surprises me, as I don’t consider that I’ve gone overboard on the app front. I’ve just checked and there’s 90 apps in total, but, scrolling through, 30 of those are Google oriented one way or another, including some weird foreign keyboards that it feels I need.
I have mine set to download via wifi, but only when the charger is plugged in ( usually most nights ) so I don’t get problems with data limits or battery life.
What really annoys me is when they update a perfectly working simple app ( like TomTom Speed Cameras ) and update it to a fully fledged SatNav app that will never compete with Google maps or Waze, and has to be fiddled about with to get it back to where it was before, and ignore the map aspects of it.
Sometimes they just don’t know when to leave well alone!!
One consolation with this weather – any viruses out loose ‘in the wild’, so to speak, will all be blown back to Europe!!😆😛
For the moment I see some inmates of our prisons as being a greater threat to life and limb with little prospect that they will ever be defanged.
I found it extremely ironic when the Governments’ representatives say that little can be done about people already sentenced and they will be open to release under the existing terms, as has been shown for its crass stupidity with this latest idiot.
The general consensus seems to be that nothing can be done to retrospectively change the law and alter the pre-existing conditions.
Wasn’t that precisely what was done to the WASPI Women??!!
Having watched that interview twice now, it can’t be denied that he said it, but however, that came after a great deal of funnelling and near finagling of the questions that Andrew Marr put to Tusk, and you can bet a pound to a penny, the qualifying comments made by Tusk will be left out of the soundbites.
Ed, that’s what I was alluding to, albeit, I didn’t know the figures, but my fear is it still won’t be enough, hence the ‘direction of travel’ comment.
Looked for an exasperated/frustrated smiley, but couldn’t find one on our set.
Even if a moderate got the block votes of all the Unions (Not going to happen) it wouldn’t be enough to outnumber all their new Marxist members.
Fully agree with the likely direction of travel, but I hold a faint hope as a few ( non-Labour ) friends thought they would join just to vote for someone moderate – whether they did or not I’ll find out at a later stage.
Graham – I was so incensed at the comment, I failed to spot, or maybe, connect, the “Sorry, but NO” !!
Stick an outraged Smiley when you say something outrageous in jest!!👍👍
Having said that I might just go for 64bit on another spare PC that is lying around if I can find out a bit more about how to change and if I can do it for free.
See Graham’s info here:-
If you are going to do a fresh install of W10 then I would strongly recommend switching to the 64bit version unless you are still using some ancient 16bit software.
Your key will still be valid and now your motherboard is registered for W10 its best to skip over entering it during an install, let Windows activate its self later (usually in a minute or two).
Only trying to go from one version to another, say home to pro, requires a new key.
The whole Scottish situation has got to the point now, that as soon as one of them comes onto the TV, I reach for the remote to Fast Forward. The record has got stuck in the groove, whingeing has become the norm and they are determined that we will pay the price for them not getting their way.
Whichever of the candidates for Leader of the Labour Party espouses joining up the Opposition parties ( SNP, LibDems and possibly the Greens ) into a United Front, will lose my vote for definite, and those of many others too. They would be off with the fairies if they think that they could either control or co-erce the SNP into a collaborative regime for their united ends.
There are the occasional Scottish voice that speaks sense, one was either on Politics Live recently, or Question Time, I can’t recall which. I yearn for more of them.
JC was not wrong and what we REALLY need is more Marxism.
You HAVE to be joking, Graham!! Momentum scare the crap out of me and are the reason JC became un-electable, not taking into account his blatant anti-nationalism ( to be clear, that’s his anti-UK stance and pro anybody ( Gadaafi, IRA, HAMAS etc, etc) that has p*ssed off the majority of sensible UK citizens. How anybody who took pride in being a rebel, never voting with his party line, and then being proud to be leader of a mainstream political party, could ever think that was anything other than cant hypocrisy, beggars belief.
Blaming Brexit for their defeat in the 2019 GE is to ignore the real reasons and avert eyes from a necessary stringent, effective, inward look.
He is why I have felt dis-enfranchised for these last three years and ended up voting Tory ( admittedly in a safe Tory seat, so that salved my conscience a little, or at least took the bad taste out of my mouth ).
The Rebecca Long-Baileys of this world that give JC 10 out of 10 on his report card are deluding themselves. They say we have to look forward for a solution, not back, referring to commentators that say they should look in Blair’s direction for the salve to our ( Labour ) current woes.
We need a Centrist Labour Party that either falls back on, or at the very least comes from, traditional Labour values.
I have high hopes for Lisa Nandy, who worked supremely hard across party lines ( while JC and his ilk were playing games and quoting their 6 criteria ) to try and get some sanity re-instated during the end of TM’s reign and the start of Boris’s. However, even she raises my doubts when she openly talks of open borders/free movement and includes giving extended members of the families of migrants the same rights – it’s the extended members part that worries me most.I thought my to good to miss thread would get some of that sort of reply. Apparently not 😁
Would anyone like to win a copy of the European Communities (Withdrawal Agreement) Act 2020, personally signed by Boris Johnson ?
All you have to do is contribute £5, £10 or £20 to the conservative party and you will be entered into a draw that could see you as the proud new owner of the document 😀
And no I am not making it up, the details are in the latest Conservative party mail shot.
Raffles don’t normally provoke political statements!!😀
Apparently there’s been an extension until December 2020, unless CoronaVirus intervenes!!
Lundy would be a better location for 400+++ people.
No – it needs to be more remote from civilisation to ensure complete safety – the Shetlands, for example must have a suitable candidate, and the extreme cold might help kill off some nasties ( bugs/viruses, that is ) by way of a bonus.
By way of a second bonus, the Scots are saying they welcome free movement, we could give them a head start!!!
As an aside – For those familiar with the Fermi Paradox I wonder if the the powerful dynamics of evolution, which ultimately lead to intelligent life developing, also inevitably lead to the evolution of a biological organism that wipes it out? I’m not saying that 2019-nCoV is it because some people are surviving 2019-nCoV. I’m simply hypothesising – Could it possibly be that the Great Filter if one exists is actually biological and derives quite logically of the very same ingenuity of living organisms that led to intelligent life evolving in the first place?
Que??????It’s one of the many Creedence tracks that are timeless!!
Careful now, Lee, you’ll get Bob reminiscing!!😋🙃😋🙃
What is your boot time to a usable browser screen like?? I’ll re-boot and post my time for comparison.
Booted to desktop ( including MS password ) in 35 seconds, browser screen in 57. HTH.
W10 ( 32 bit ) on an SSD with an i3 should fly, mine’s a 3 y/o Zoostorm with an i5 and W10 ( 64 bit ) on an SSD, 1Tb SATA Data drive with a single 8Gb ram stick – it really flies.
Maybe your IDE drives are somehow causing confusion. The plan to upgrade to SATA seems wise. Ensure these will be data only – no remnants of any previous OS.

But we still only have two ears, and so we can only physically listen in stereo.
Physically, that’s accurate, but those ears are directional, and we can hear from the level of sound that’s received by each ear from where the sound originates. As stereo only has two speakers, it would be difficult to ‘imitate’ a sound coming from behind you, to the left or right.
I’m only aware of this because the wife’s hearing is 60+% down in one ear and 40+% down in the other – an unfortunate side effect of her Menieres. This means, if she can’t see the phone that is ringing, she can’t work out where it is – one reason we have a wired in landline for her, but also in the event of power cuts!!
That’s working for me now, Lee. Thanks.
The ‘financial year’ has a lot to answer for in unwanted quiet patches!!
