I’ll bet there’s huge pressure to open the island back up for June!!
This subject pisses me off. My Dad is having to keep his garage open as the company will not let them shut even though it’s absolutely dead and there is now no rush for M.O.T’s.
Sister in law’s partner runs a Kwikfit type shop in SW London – she was expecting him home, but he and 4 other managers got a message from above – they, along with a skeleton staff will rotate through the branches providing services for essential staff that need stuff done to their cars in order to travel to work.
JCD, some of the dealerships near me are technically closed but they will do repairs/ MOT/ maintenance for people like NHS , Fire, Police, carers and the like.
Worth asking them.
Unfortunately my local one has sent me this:-
For this reason, as of 7.30pm tonight we have made the decision to temporarily close all of our Lookers showrooms and service departments until further notice in response to the Coronavirus pandemic. We know this may cause some disappointment and apologise for any inconvenience. Our priority is to protect the welfare of our employees and customers and with the latest guidance from the government, we must honour this and do everything we can to protect our community and to reduce the further spread of the virus
For those customers who are due to take delivery of your new vehicle or for those of you who are booked in for Aftersales care over the course of Tuesday and Wednesday, we will aim to complete your transaction with us where it is safe to do so. We are in the process of contacting you directly. All other existing bookings are being cancelled and we will be in contact to re-arrange your booking for when our showrooms re-open.
I’ve had this from the group I bought the car from, but they’re all a 70+ mile schlapp away :-
To ensure that we are able to keep customers, and particularly keyworker vehicles operational at all times, four of our workshops will remain open. They will be able to handle all servicing, repairs, MOTs and breakdowns.
These sites and locations are as follows:
Mercedes-Benz Brentford
Mercedes-Benz Colindale
Mercedes-Benz Croydon
Mercedes-Benz StratfordI’ll play it by ear and talk to them about it. I’ve got a voucher for a free service at one group, and if you service it at a dealership they give you a years breakdown/recovery service free, through RAC and MB Roadside Assist. Can’t remember what they call it now!!
Too late for an edit – drop down boxes are legible now, Lee. Cheers.
Also I’ve only got another month left on my after sale warranty – I need to get in touch with them to see if the will honour/extend if the dealership stays closed!!
Cheers, Lee. Best of luck – and don’t forget to sleep!!!
Hi Lee, new Logo is fine, I’m putting up a screenshot from when I click on the ‘You’ tab at the top of the page. Titles are visible, but contents within the titles are like reading through a cloud. They’re only just visible if you squint.

Wow – that was the easiest I’ve put a picture up!! You can see what I mean.
The new Logo reminded me of one of our members Freak Show, but I couldn’t remember his handle at first, went looking for the members list and couldn’t find it??
Cheers
Hi Lee – for a minute, I thought I’d been logged out as the Red❌ and Green tick were missing from Latest Replies, but the option to Log Out of Forumite is there.
Thanks for trying.👍👍 while there’s an alternative it’s not a big problem.
In my innocence I thought it would just be a re-sizing exercise – things are never that simple.
I emailed the BBC earlier about this. My local dealership emailed me saying they were closing, but my service is due and the MoT middle of next month. Some bits they just haven’t catered for!!
Hi,
With the current lockdown situation in the UK, what do I do about my car. I’m 68 and use it for shopping. I’ve had an email from the dealership saying they’re closing the dealerships sales and service departments.
The MoT runs out in mid April. How will I get this renewed??
Are garages/MoT stations even considered essential?? Can/will the Police turn a blind eye??It’s cropping up on their bulletins now.
hat VFM referenced some while ago
Talking of VFM, where has he been?? I’m hoping it’s just down to the fact that he doesn’t have internet access in his bunker!!!
The worrying thing ( on a global aspect ) is Hong Kong. If I understand it correctly, their figures for infection are on the up again. Are they experiencing the second wave that has been mooted or just a continuation. One to keep eyes on.
Left it too late to edit the above – Lee, is there any chance that the emoji drop down box could be enlarged?? I almost totally use the PC/monitor and even with that, I struggle to differentiate the smiles from the scowls!!
Something that has alleviated it recently is the Windows 10 “Windows Logo Key + period” combination which brings up an enlarged emoji box in the posting area – that is an improvement, but it would be easier if it was all in one.
Cheers
Well, it appears that I’m an optimist – I’ve rescheduled our Spain trip for October. If this thing persists, I’ve still got the original insurance for the trip so will cancel it at that point.😀
Top menu bar looks a lot ‘tidier’.
The only saving grace from Boris’s announcement ( so far as the wife’s well-being and my sanity is concerned ) was that you are allowed out once a day for exercise so long as you don’t make up a group of more than 2, unless all from the same household. If you take ride into the ( not so ) nearest valleys for that exercise, who’s to say that’s outside the new regs??
I will be accompanying the wife for a walk on the beach later today, keeping the appropriate social distancing, wearing a muffler over my nose and mouth – it isn’t PPE by any stretch, but anything it’s better than nothing. On that note, as a biker, it’s likely you have one of those ‘bandido scarves with a breather hole’ that fit below the helmet, over nose and mouth, that might perform the same function for you. Just don’t choose one with a skull on it, you might be mistaken for the walking dead!!
Glad that Dad is better, and you’re at least up for going out.Good luck.
We’re off to Tesco at 6am tomorrow, later on today, to get eggs bread, fruit and perishables. We qualify for the 9am oaps etc, but have had reports of limited availability, even at 3 hours after opening time, so we’ll check it out and alter the schedule as required.
I’ve just got back from my first civilised, non-frustrating, successful shop ( well 95% of it any way because I forgot the list!!!) Doh!! Got there about 6.30 and there was stock on the shelves.😃
It wasn’t arduous at all, I just put my mind back in ‘flower-market mode’ and got my a*se out of bed at 5.30!! I may well have a sleep in the armchair later.

I started filling the cupboards and freezers well before christmas just incase I had a few bad months. And guess what! 🙂
Right stance – wrong reason!! Still – it left you prepared for whatever comes!!👍👍
But one thing for sure I can not stand that bar stewerd cummins.
First time I saw him strolling along Downing Street, I thought he was a window cleaner!!! For somebody at the levers of power, he’s certainly a scruffy get!!🤔

We qualify for the 9am oaps etc, but have had reports of limited availability, even at 3 hours after opening time, so we’ll check it out and alter the schedule as required. We bought a small ( 142L ) chest freezer three weeks ago and stocked it with the equivalent of a couple of weeks shopping, nothing we wouldn’t normally buy, unlike the guy in front of us in Aldi who had £156 of canned goods – and with Aldi’s prices, that’s some going!! That won’t need a top-up until early next week.
We’ve doubled up on our prescriptions to cover any shortfall, and we’re looking to go on their delivery round. They’re saying that they are full up and not taking any mor for now, but I reckon we’ll get a letter from the surgery soon that may offer it to us. We’ll see. We’re not self isolating, but when we go out for beach walks etc it’s just the two of us, keeping well apart from others.
If ever we need to sleep in separate rooms ( hopefully never necessary ) I’ve told the wife I’ll consider that as anti-social separation!!!
I don’t like Boris, and never have, but he has gone up in my estimation at how he’s dealt with it all, albeit a bit late on some things – it doesn’t do to say you’re not closing schools on the Monday/Tuesday broadcasts, so as to avoid early boredom syndrome, and then announce on Thursday, the schools will shut to all bar priority workers kids on Friday!!
PPE has been the subject of very placatory messages to all ( NHS and Public ) when a friend who runs a Private hospital had to threaten withholding access to their beds before they got promised a next day delivery on masks, etc.
Ventilators, I’m expecting to be impressed, later on this week, when the first batch of engineering samples are submitted for testing.🤞
