That’s a good detailed article, but 2 weeks out of date now. I reckon they could roll it back down gradually. Any extension from June will be for 5 months, then in July, it would be extended by 4 months, etc etc until it all balances out without any unmanageable pressure on the centres.

We shall no doubt see in the coming days/weeks.

A friend checked out her car’s MoT info and was told she had 12 days left and should get it MoT’d. ( She said it was in red capital letters across her iPad. ) She’s the sort of person that just rang our local garage, booked it in took it and got it passed OK today. She remembers them saying something about the 22nd June, but not much by way of details unfortunately.

The Gov.uk page hasn’t been updated or changed in the last few days, but the situation may have changed now more garages/MoT centres are open. @boris – keep an eye on your friends’ cars and dates on the page in case there has been a change.

Reading through THIS , write-up, it seems straightforward.

Before the item sells you need to check on postage costs, you then decide how you want to send it, choose the rate paid ( this will be cheaper than PO or couriers because eBay is acting as an agent and getting cheaper rates by bulk, then letting you use them ). Put postage costs into the advert. Item sells. You then decide whether to take it to a collection centre, where  you can get the label printed, if you don’t have a printer, or choose for it to be collected by a courier, ( you will need to print the label off yourself ) with a choice of courier options ( which ones in particular, I don’t know, but the Royal Mail is in there ).

eBay will make a profit on your postage, but you will also be getting it cheaper than direct from PO, RM or courier.

Doesn’t seem to be a bad idea at all, but then I’ve sold very little on eBay.

I suspect that when the journalists latch on to his interview they will be putting the incompetent Dido on the rack, and judging from last night’s performance she could crack and spill the beans.

That’s probably be why she won’t be there, and when asked, they’ll say she had her outing yesterday and they’ve moved on to another priority/aspect, or some such Politician BS. The Update should have been just that – keeping the public aware, but it’s turned into Politicians tip-toeing through the turds dropped in their path by the journalists. :yahoo:

One of the problems that the apps will face, is the use of Bluetooth Low Energy rather than GPS data, due to privacy concerns.

GPS would tell the app owners exactly where you were, to within a metre, and also identify a phone that was near you, whereas BLE could tell which phone was near you ( less accurately distance wise, maybe between 1 metre and 10 metres, but they’re not sure ) but not put a geo-location on it.

It could also end up notifying people who were outside the 2-metre social distancing margin, but within the 10 metre range, that they had to self-isolate as they’d come into contact with a Covid19 carrier. The whole thing is a farce and doesn’t seem to have the “safe middle ground” Hancock seems to be seeking/demanding.

An interesting article HERE from the inventors of Bluetooth about the problems.

There are also lots of problems with having BT on all the time regarding battery life, ( and not everybody even wanting to ) plus problems with BLE switching off on some iPhones when the battery is above 80%!! Plus the general vagueness of distance measuring, for something like T&T which is distance critical. Interesting article HERE.

Interesting times ahead for this one.

I don’t know where it’s all headed – maybe down a DEAD END!!  :yahoo:

I was browsing Ebuyer myself earlier and saw THIS – it seems to hit all of your wants ( not sure the CPU is fast enough for your games ) except for the big Enter key and rather OTT on the budget.

Just checked the wife’s car and her MoT was due last month on the 21st, the Gov.uk page says her MoT will expire in the 21st November 2020. :good:

You should now be in the middle of the downpour we just had. If you were out that would have given them a good workout.

We’ve been needing a good downpour for this last week – it was forecast for light rain or showers, but they hardly materialised. Had the sprinkler on the lawns for a couple of hours each over the last few days, I can see that again for the coming week!!

It only shows the 6 month extended date if your car has actually gone past its normal MOT due date. I have checked 4 cars (all of which have an MOT due this or next month) and all show the original (not extended) expiry date.

                          @boris

                          From Ed’s link :-

                          What you need to do
Your vehicle’s MOT expiry date will be updated about 7 days before it was originally due to expire.

Three days before your MOT was originally due to expire, check the expiry date has been extended.
If the expiry date has not been extended 3 days before it was due to expire, email covid19mot@dvsa.gov.uk.

The 6 month extension by the Gov’t applies to your existing 12 month MoT issued some time back in 2019. This makes it legal for you to continue to drive around now, ‘without’ an MoT, but with the Gov’ts permission, so long as the car is kept safe for the road.

As you got your car MoT’d before the cut off date ( 30th March 2020 ) it will expire on the date shown on the certificate, or 12 months after the date of the MoT test. This 2020 issued certificate will not qualify, currently, for a 6 month extension, unless lockdown lasts past March 2021, God forbid, and the Gov’t repeats the exercise then!!

My situation is that my MoT expired 14th April this year and I’m under the rules of the extension. I’ve just checked HERE and my car is shown as MoT’d until 14th October 2020. Put your Reg No in this web page and you’ll see when your latest one expires.

MB have also extended the period of the ‘past service date’ time from 90 days to 180 days, so that I will still qualify under their Warranty and Breakdown/Recovery terms. I am also trying with their Customer Service team to get a letter for a free service ( given to me by WX to compensate for a long delay in prepping the car ready for purchase, they had to order and replace the whole sun-roof ( 10 days ) after spending two weeks trying to fix it ) transferred from where I bought the car (90 miles from home in Waltham Cross ) to my local dealership in Canterbury. Haven’t heard back from them yet.

To make the shop idea more accessible/appropriate to needs, maybe start a topic about what people are doing their due diligence/research on and whether there is a China alternative.

To kick it off with an example, I started looking on AliBaba at some LED batten lights and the whole sense of it just becomes a bit too much, I just find it frustrating. For someone that was on it more of the time it would be much easier. I hate window shopping at the best of times and just end up adding them to my  Ebay Watchlist and paying the premium for someone to act as middle-man, or in this case finding they’re out of stock!! I started looking at them for my conservatory, but they’re just as useful for the garage and the loft.

Regarding the ads, I personally hate them, but if they keep the lights on, then so be it. Let us know when they’re due so that we can whitelist forumite on our adblockers. :good:

That’s annoying – and to make matters worse, the similar ( almost same ) ones on Amazon are £40 – £60 more!!

I love the footrest on my electric reclining armchair, and use it a lot for naps during the day, or even when the wife’s back is playing her up and she’s restless overnight and I wake up at 5 or 6 in the morning, it’s the dog’s proverbial’s – but would I want to do that in an office chair??? I don’t really think so.

I bought one of THESE back in October ’18. It’s still good, if showing a few signs of wear, but still really comfortable.

Because it’s on an expensive wooden floor, I also bought THESE to replace the old castors. They have been, and still are, superb.
