I felt that previously we were ticking along reasonably in tier 3, albeit with numbers on the increase. Thanet was third at that time in Kent, Sussex and Surrey local authorities, but is now 12th and holding numbers steady, but we will now go into tier 4 – we’re effectively stuffed back in lockdown and can’t, it seems even mix with other tier 4’s. What a total bollox-up of the whole situation. It seems to be that Boris is trying to prevent a Post-Thanksgiving-like disaster, that is descending on the States at the moment.

I’ve got a friend who’s 83 and is booked in for the jab on Wednesday next week. Let’s hope we follow soon, because that is going to be our main line of defence in the coming days.

Hi all, thanks for the Birthday wishes!! I just got back from dinner at a friends – she’s in our limited bubble – beef in juniper, truly delicious, with all the usual trimmings, followed by pears and apricots in Calvados with a seriously delicious M&S custard made with Madagascan Vanilla, one for our Christmas shopping list!! I also had half a glass of Malbec, another M&S special, that was all I had as I was driving!!

Probably a lay in tomorrow as I’m in to London on Wednesday to collect or son, whose coming to stay for four or five days. The wife can’t wait!!

and the cd player is optical out only

Have you thought about one of THESE – they’re cheap and could output to a PC sound card or an audio input to the TV. Have you got a digital input on your TV at all? If not, it’s a bit of a kludge, but would serve over Christmas.

You’ve reminded me about a job I’ve had sitting in the wings for a while now. W10 is on its own SSD ( 120Gb Integral from My Memory as it happens!! ) and I’ve been meaning to clone it to another SSD in case of any problems to it. Macrium Reflect is doing this currently and I will also copy an image of it to my external drive that holds my scheduled Acronis file/folder backup ( 1 full + 5 incremental ). That’s probably ott, but there’s a lot of info from the rentals that would inconvenience me come tax day if it went missing!!

                Hope yours resolved itself OK.👍

I’ve got the same cumulative update for 2004 waiting for a restart as well as the feature update for 20H2. I’ll have this to hand for the 20H2 update, then repeat the exercise once 20H2 is running!! Nothing wrong with belt and braces!! :good: :yahoo: I was about to say that Windows had really got its act together with seamless updates, these days, but I wouldn’t wish to tempt fate!! :yahoo:

I’ve had our local ( Thanet ) on my Covid browser page for the last month,  maybe more. :good:

They’ve done it by putting a cartoon virus ‘globe’ button on their main page and when you click it a dashboard – similar to a dialogue box, appears. Quite slick really.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Bob for the best result, come March.🤞🤞 He’ll be home by my birthday, so I’ll be having an ( extra :good: ) tipple that night, on his behalf, wishing him well.

Brutal truth is what you need, even though it may not be what you may want!! Full information, full facts. I well remember my diagnosis. Initially, at local level, the consultants tell you to stay off the internet, phrase things specifically, couch things in vague/arcane terms and terminology, staying away from the “C” word, so much so that when we transferred to the Marsden and the consultant in conversation said “Your cancer……….” the wife wanted to hit him!! After that, I told every consultant and registrar to give it to me straight, and bless them, they did.

Bob’s first challenge will be mobility, extended hospital stays are the worst, especially in later life, where things stop working the way they used to as a norm!!!

During my first hospital stay after the car crash, which was extended by a fortnight waiting for a special piece of equipment to insert a rod inside the bone between my knee and ankle, I was laying still, with one leg operated on and plated, while the other was in an open cast. The worst pain of almost the entire stay was after the op and recovery when, after 5 weeks of not moving under my own steam, I got physio to get my joints mobile again. That was pillow biting stuff!! Only exceeded when they thought that I’d been on morphine for too long and wanted to use a local in my leg. It had to be administered just above the bone and the only way they could precisely locate it was by the needle touching the bone, then coming back 1/4″. They pulled me off the ceiling for that one.

Stay strong and stay safe Bob.👍👍

I look from time to time to see if Bob had made any progress.

Great to hear from you, Richard, hope all is well with you and your family. :good: We miss you and Bob – your missives would keep us smiling, which is what we all need these days. 🙂 :yahoo: It’s a quieter forumite without you both.

They did that here for the last month – a 3 mile zone around us was completely clear on the 12th October, that went to the max up to the 9th November, but daily cases are starting to go down, as is our MSOA rate. This week, almost everything around us for a 10ish mile radius ( well semi-circle because we’re on the coast ), is still max, but that 3 mile zone is starting to ease down.

One thing you need to be careful of and that is when you focus too closely on the immediate surroundings of your postcode.

While all of the above quoted was true, what I didn’t realise was that we ( Thanet ) are the third highest infection rate in the country!!

But two areas in Kent are now showing significant increases – Swale, with the second highest infection rate of 565 per 100,000 people and Thanet with the third highest rate of 508.
Swale had earlier overtaken Hull as the worst-hit area in England, with a rate of 631.7 per 100,000 people in the week to 18 November. Figures for the week to 19 November show Hull once again has the highest rate in England, at 568.6 cases per 100,000. The rate has fallen from 743.4 in the week to 9 November.

It just goes to show you need to get the big picture too. I now have an extra four tabs on my Covid 19 browser page!!

It’s the tenacity of the ophthalmologists that have got me to here (they did the blood and gene tests and linked them to the back problems) and they’re frustrated that they can’t refer me directly to the services I need.

My current medical issue was similarly discovered. I have an Abdominal Aortic Aneurism, a swelling of the main blood vessel below the heart, it’s in the middle of the ‘small’ category at 3.5cm so just under observation. It was first noticed a couple of years ago on a CT scan at the Marsden and added as a notification for my GP. They referred me to the hospital for a closer scan of the issue. Recently the Marsden noticed a tiny increase ( 0.1cm ) and noted it down to my GP. I’m waiting for an appointment now with the Specialist.

The reason it’s stayed dormant is that I was already doing ( most ) of the things they suggested to deal with it. I had stopped smoking ( albeit years ago ),I ate healthily, with low fat ( piggybacking  on the wife’s low fat diet ), I went down from 17 1/2 stone to 15 1/2, and cut down on the booze ( marginally ). The one thing that I could do more of is exercise, but as I’m on painkillers for a torn meniscus and other problems in my left knee, that’s a vicious circle!!

All fun and games in the daily battle of life versus age!! :yahoo:

I have a diagnosis of ankylosing spondylitis  (arthritis related, my lower spine is fusing itself together amongst other things)

That’s a bummer!! My SiL has got spinal stenosis so I know what problems in that area can cause, and the wife has arthritis in the lower back along with a disc missing. :negative:

However, it’s good to see knowledge and experience passed forward to the next generation – it’ll be the best tool in their  box, plus if you’re working together in the future, that’s a good combination of experience and youth working together. It’s also good to keep the brain working, even if the body takes a while to catch up. It’s frustrating all the things we took for granted growing up – like sitting down or standing up without an accompanying ooh!! or an ahh!! or an ouch!! I’ve been assembling some shelving units for an older friend’s garage, which has involved a lot of kneeling down and I’ve been limping a lot more than usual!!

                          Best of luck.👍👍

Well, that answers my “Is the NUC job a collate, build and supply, or is it fit and commission too??” question from the `CCTV on Ebay’ topic!!!

That sounds to be a real joy of a job – I can hear the anticipation in your words!! As said, good luck with it all and congrats!!👍👍

Will you be able to access the premises ahead of time to run your cabling in, or is there going to be extensive construction before you can get in there?? Do they have the plans yet, or is it with Planning for any change of use?

I’ve got two monitors on a dual gas arm setup here, with a wireless keyboard and mouse, – it does looks great and started out clutter free, but more desk space just meant more room for odds and sods!!! Everything from battery chargers, Smart Meter remote display, pills for daily consumption, spare glasses, stapler, sellotape, torch, letter opener, recent mail………etc, so best of luck with that, although having it cleaned by contractors was a great incentive to keep my desk clear when I was with BT!!

Edit – are they having an alarm fitted, if so, will it be a Pyronix?? Would be good to get feedback on it for mine.👍👍

The current problem needing attention is CO2, hence the need for an alternative to Fossil Fuels. Safety has improved vastly, just over the last few decades. Nuclear generating could fill the gap until Science comes up with a way of dealing with, or better still utilising, the waste.

So long as there are no kickbacks or shortcuts that endanger the construction or safety of nuclear generating plants, and Governments really are serious about getting rid of fossil fuel generating, they could be an easier way forward to our greener future.

( Greenpeace would need to accept they can’t have it all ways and accept the CO2 win.) They would certainly meet the increased capacity needed in a future with more EV’s.

                                    A car with ESP ?

ESP stand for Electronic Stability Program, at least in the Mercedes-Benz dictionary. It uses input from several sensor to help stabilize the car during cornering, over steering, under steering or slipping. … This is done by monitoring the rotation speed of each wheel using the ABS sensors on the wheel.

Extrasensory Perception ? Wow ! My old 2003 Agila will have to go to the scrapyard ASAP now 🙂

It knew what you were going to do in the back seat before you did.

Bit like the old joke :- “My girlfriend’s a witch!!” “How do you know??” “She whispered the magic words in my ear and I turned into a layby!!” :yahoo:

Talk of a car mileage charge e.g. mileage reported at each MOT then the Government levies a mileage charge to be paid during the next year..

That would give the old ‘Clockers’ a new lease of life!!!

I was about to say, either that or disconnect the speedo cable, but I’m just showing my age with that one!!!

There’s so much of the auto electronics tied in with the car’s speed moving down the road, from ABS to ESP to tyre pressure etc you would lose a large proportion of the safety features. 🙁

But you’re right, they won’t stand lightly for that loss, they’ll find a way to claw it back when they should be paying us for helping them meet their eco targets.

JCD, not long ago in France it was possible to get a brand new Renault Zoe for 10 euros a month due to a massive lump of cash to get people into EV’s.

That’s exactly what I mean. It won’t take long for people en masse to take them up on that sort of offer. Unfortunately, our lot over here think the way to go is to penalise you for owning an internal combustion engine’d car and hope you’ll see EV’s as a cheaper way out!!

When I bought my car in April 2019 I looked to see if there were viable EV or Hybrid options. The B Class had a hybrid B250e, but the equipment level was basic and the price was dearer than the equivalent fully loaded diesel model .

Their new EQ range is out now, but starting at £56k or thereabouts it’s way out of most people’s reach. If they want us to go electric, they have to start financially motivating both manufacturers and consumers.

If they are really intending to meet some of the eco targets they’ve set themselves, they need to do things like lose the VAT on eco products, whether that is EV’s, hybrids or solar panels. They have to stop dicking around at the margins and make some hard choices.
