With a side effect of cleaning up the cities and denying space for more pollution taxes!
Well, Bob, you know what they’re like – they will only replace current taxation methods with …………………….. current taxation, you’ll pay by the milliamp to charge your car, probably utilising an output from your Smart meter or the like.
Hi K.S. and welcome – I see the Topic has been Tagged with “WHOOPEEFUN”, so maybe you fell foul of the trick that JB asked about HERE.
If so, read what JB did as it seems he cancelled the subscription and just lost the £1. A nice bonus for somescum if a lot of people do it!!
I’d rather be distrustful of everything that comes my way without me having requested it – and maybe miss out on a bonus – than open myself up to risk. That’s not preaching, just my personal stance.
Good luck, but check with your bank and let them know they must not pay them any more money, under any circumstances. That should cover you.
From what I’ve been reading recently, Solid State Batteries will soon be putting Li-Ion and Li-Pol to shame.
Big development being done by Toyota ( interesting article from TorqueNews HERE ), VW backed QuantamScape HERE and Tesla HERE for their version of the future.
All fascinating reading which will transform EV driving in the very near future.
Happy Birthday Bob. 🎂👍👍
She sounds like someone you can be justifiably proud of. It’s the yobs and oiks who get all the press and sometimes we forget about the little successes that are close to us all.
Went back to edit in links, but it blew me out.
Key combo Fn/F2
Switch details :-These controls are more commonly found in older models, including the Dell Inspiron 1525 (originally released in 2008) which features a dedicated switch to turn its Wi-Fi connectivity on and off. Many users may not be expecting such a switch to be included on their laptop, leading to some confusion when internet connections aren’t available.
I remember on an old Dell laptop there was a switch on the side to turn it on/off. Also a key combination.
………………….but it depends on broadband and WiFi speeds, which I guess would be crucial for you.
Less so than before, Bob. I saw on my local news that a Kent man is trialling satellite broadband with Starlink, Elon Musk’s company. He’s on their Beta trial and is paying £84 a month for 50 – 150Mbps., compared to his previous 1 – 2Mbps. Expensive upfront cost ~£500 for the equipment, but that will only come down. There is also Konnect satellite broadband at £30 for 22Mbps up to £70 for 75Mbps. It’s a developing technology now.
So far Elon Musk has got 800 satellites up there with a plan for 42000 worldwide!! He doesn’t muck about that man when he puts his mind to something!!
Hi Bob, glad to see life is keeping you busy!!!😉
Instead of trying to squash it all into the lappy, might a NAS not be the better way to go? I seem to remember you’ve got a lot of music ( and photos too ). Then all that was needed would be for your your GS to point the lappy at the appropriate folders on the NAS.
Gutted to hear that Lee. When it all went quiet, I thought ( and hoped ) it might have been sorted.😒
Anything on the houseboat front??
No justice either! Unless you are at death’s door SWMBO thinks you only have a cold and are just a wimp.
You’re not alone – I put it down to genetic programming!!
The wife had Covid at the same time – going off chocolate was almost the only impact it had on her. Man flu all over again!
Just been phoned this morning by a customer from our dog days. Her partner ( male, 69 – she’s late 50’s ) went down with it in November and has been in and out of hospital three times since. He’s at home on oxygen and his stats are low, but not critical at the moment. She said he has a fibrosis in his lungs as a result of long Covid. When he was diagnosed, she was recommended to go in for a test and she came back positive, saying the only thing she felt was the start of a cold, but has been fine ever since. There’s just no telling!!
That’s an interesting shadow there, Dave!! Someone tell Bowie the answer to his question seems to be “YES!!”
I’ve had a text from the doc to say my letter is on the way. I can go to the regional Ashton Gate Vaccination Centre or “pharmacy” (but it doesn’t expand on that). Or just wait and they’ll mop me up later. If I can go to the local Boots that’ll be great or it’s an hour each way on the Metro bus. Not waiting for the doc.
👍👍
They are talking about bringing in the old idea of atomic engines.
Considering Challenger ( 28th Jan 1986) and Columbia ( 1st Feb 2003 ) an atomic engine’d spacecraft could prove more disastrous for the planet than Chernobyl!! Don’t think that that one would get past Greenpeace or Extinction Rebellion.
……, anyhow, it’s about to land.
What is?? I’ve been keeping an eye for the last few days, it’s been working, but nothing going on. As PM says, just quiet.
Side note, what is the Perseverance topic??
I bought THIS last May for when I was doing a lot of laptop work swapping spinners for SSD’s. It’s been brilliant with a slide top opening and easy swap overs. For 2.5’s and no power supply. Last time I bought a 3.5″ enclosure was a good few years ago, about £20 from PC World. They’re sitting there with a few images and folders on them. All OK last time I checked.
The only thing with Patient Access seems to be getting signed up and staying signed up. I have had no trouble with the basic log in but I have had to reregister for the prescription ordering service twice.
Not had problems like that, but recently they’ve upped their security level and asked for 2FA or similar, with letters from a known word or phrase chosen at random after getting access to the site with username and password.
Dave, good to hear progress is being made in the right direction.👍
Bob, great to hear you’ve both been vaccinated. Stay well!!
The Missus is feeling better today after feeling like crap since getting the jab on Thursday. She says her body always reacts badly when something foreign is introduced in to it – I just smiled and stayed schtummm!! When she asked why I was grinning I just told her ” Sums up my sex life for the last decade!!”
She wasn’t amused!!
My practice uses a system called PatientAccess
That’s what my Medical Centre uses as well. I’m signed up for it and it works quite well. They’re in the middle of a big re-vamp after being taken over by Invicta. Showing promising signs, but only time will tell. They’re upgrading/updating their phone system and website in order to utilise them more and taking on new GP’s and nursing posts. Their old system only had limited lines into the surgery and so they were always engaged or you were on hold for up to an hour. That’s improved in the short term, but we’ll see how they function in more normal times.
Just read an article from our GP Surgery in the Community Magazine and followed a few links from that.
The NHS website repeat prescription ordering service
If you are regularly prescribed the same medicine, you can save time by ordering each issue of your prescription online without having to contact your GP surgery. This link took me to THIS page on the NHS website, so you can use that to order repeat prescriptions without having to go through the GP it seems. That might be an improvement on your current setup.👍👍
However when I did a little Google on this there seemed to be all sorts of confusing new rules on how you could / couldn’t order repeats that did / didn’t apply depending on what you currently did. Implementation dates seemed different for each part of the country that I could find and said that you had to produce the tear off in person at your practice and your pharmacist couldn’t order for you any more. That seemed nuts before covid never mind now.
I did a run through myself just now and THIS seems to be the definitive layout for guidance rules from NHS England. It’s very ‘nuts and bolts’ in approach, but could give you a few things to quote back to them if they aren’t coming up to scratch. It’s from 2015, but gives you a starting point to ask for any latest amendments or rules changes. Good luck.😉👍
