It’s the will of the people! It’s democracy! 52% can’t be wrong!
The only way to stay absolutely safe is to switch off and only pay cash over the counter.
Except sooner or later someone would mug you.
Agreed. Someone didn’t bother to read. End of story. In a world where no-one blames themselves, clearly it must have been Microsoft’s fault.
The 3D Xpoint DIMMs sit between “real” RAM and the SSD. They’re faster than an SSD but slower than normal RAM. In short, they’re a cache. From what I hear, they work very well and can make a worthwhile upgrade.
Er … WTF?
Oh, I was unaware of this, Lee. I’ve heard nothing more from Simon, and I assumed you’d got hold of the data and were steadily working out what to do with it. I’d no idea he hadn’t replied to your emails. I can’t think what’s happened. I’ll contact Simon again and see what’s what. All very strange. I’m honestly as much in the dark about this as you.
The picture in the link is from a Brazilian website and the button below the price translates to “Add to wish list”. It’s not for sale.
Links to where it can be bought?
I’ll chip in with some starting advice.
First, if you’re not going to be spending a fortune on a GPU, you shouldn’t need anywhere near the budget you’ve put on the table.
Second, sell the small SSD. 240 GB and even 500+ GB SSDs are so cheap now that you may as well use one not just for booting but for everything other than any films and music that won’t fit.
Absolutely, Bob. Some people are deserving of help, and you’ve done well. I think she’ll gain lots by attending that course.
Is there a Basic IDE for it? 😉
This is a disaster waiting to happen. What a load of tat.
Don’t give advice if you can help it. It’ll be ignored. And if it’s not ignored, it’ll be your fault if there’s even the slightest issue (even of the owner’s making). It’ll be your fault even if your advice *was* ignored, because the owner will blame everyone but him- or herself.
AMD should have got into custom ARM design five, six, seven years ago. We’ve said as much here before. It could have been a major ARM player, right across all markets. Intel is stubborn and loves its x86 baby too much. AMD is just an x86 licencee (though Intel has to license the 64-bit parts from AMD) and had nothing to lose. Far too late now.
What about the battery life, though? I can take a Kindle on a fortnight’s holiday and not even bother taking a charger. I can also read it in direct sunlight whilst sitting round the pool. 😉
In my view, a tablet is no substitute for a Kindle if all you want to do is read.
Lol. Yes. I meant friends and relatives who aren’t much interested in tech.
I think the only reason we’ve got 2+2 at £80 from Intel is because AMD is back on the pitch.
A lesson learned, perhaps. When people ask for computing advice, more often than not they ignore it. And then make poor decisions they later (secretly) regret. There must be a reason why they ask for advice in the first place, but I’ve not figured out what that reason is. I avoid giving advice if possible, if only because it’s often wasted time and effort.
I tend to agree. I think the gaming performance is near enough to Intel, and the framerates still high enough, that being slower is not a major factor. And things are likely to improve when patches for the virtual cores and caches are woven into the mix. I reckon the $189 Ryzen 5 1500X, at 3.5 GHz and 4+4 (3.9 GHz boost), is going to capture a load of sales at the expense of Intel’s $350 i7-7700K — about 80% of the performance (possibly better performance outside games) for just over half the cost. And it could demolish Core i5 sales.
If AMD can get the clock up to 4 GHz once the manufacturing settles down, or with the next iteration, I’d say Intel are in trouble on numerous fronts. I reckon we’ll see a fast 2+2 at $99, which will compete blow-for-blow with the Core i3 range.
Once you upload them to Google music, you get the he rights back.
Not so. Unless you owned the material originally or had a right to use it, the law has still been broken. Will anyone find out? Unlikely. Will anyone care? Unlikely. But that doesn’t change the plain fact that the music has been acquired illegally. It’s the music equivalent of money laundering.
Don’t get me wrong — I’m not making a judgement. I’m not pretending to be squeaky clean. I’m merely presenting the facts rather than ‘alternative facts’.
