Interesting link Ed. I didnt know you could get even THAT level of GPU support on a VM.
Well Ed from what I can find out it means you are using a volume licenced key.
Users with a volume licence can choose to activate their PCs in one of two ways, Key Management Services or Multiple Activation Key.
KMS requires that the PC be connected to a network running a KMS server so is unsuited to stand alone systems.
MAK allows a fixed number of activations that is held on Microsoft servers and it is decremented with each new installation. There is no way to tell how many activations are left.
Like I said thoug its just what I read ?
Is Windows pro’s Hvper V any good ?
Its all linked in with windows search too im afraid which is actually the replacement for the old indexing service .
Anyone feeling brave can follow the link but its heavy going.
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/aa965362(v=vs.85).aspx
As I understand it the Microsoft programing guide lines now state that all Universal apps, like those in the Windows app store, should use the library as the default save location. Not that I use any apps from the app store but MS seem serious about forcing Windows libraries into greater use.
I have looked more deeply at how Windows organises Media files these days and now I have a headache !
I have always known that the library folders shown in file explorer are just some sort of link to real folders containing the files (the default is folders such as My Pictures as used in older versions of Windows for compatability reasons) but it appears to go deeper than that.
From what I can find on the internet the library directories also contain information about the files they hold that they get from the Windows indexing service and it may be held in Alternate Data Streams.
Anyway, apparently the build in Universal Windows Platform apps like Photos use the information in new ways that may kick off indexing as soon as you open them.
If anyone knows more or better please let me know ?
Why do so many apps insist on trying to be Media managers these days ?
I first noticed this annoying trend about 15 years ago when I finally replaced Adobe Photo Deluxe Pro with Photoshop Elements and it wanted to catalogue my “Media Collection” before it would let me do any editing.
Sometimes I just want a program to do what it says it does as quickly as possible. I used to use the picassa photo viewer to quickly look at my pictures but now Google has dropped support for that in favour of an even more bloated than before Google Drive.
You would think but I REALLY dont visit dating websites. Maybe analytics has worked out I should !
He He. A woman in the US of A has just ordered $245 of skincare products on my Pay Pall account. Yeh right.
I don’t really get any targeted ads based on analytics. I do get ads that follow me for a bit based on cookies but clearing those out usually stops them.
What i would like to know though is why so many board housewives aparently want to meet me for sex !
I am surprised you find your i7920 slugish Dave.
As I have mentioned before I have an i7930 running at 3.9Ghz and it is one of the snappyest systems I have ever used. Even visitors comment on this.
By the way I cheat when it comes to using the Sysinternals utilities because I splashed out on the book “Windows Sysinternals Administrator’s Reference”
This is a really good book and the first chapter gives a brief overview of how Windows works internally too.
If you are going to give Autoruns from Sysinternals a go as Ed sudgests (and I think you will like it) then it is a good idea to go to options, scan options and tick verify signiature before hiding Microsoft entries. While you are there you can also tick check virus totals and every autorun entry will be sent to a bunch of online virus checkers.
Oh and dont worry about entries where a valid path name cant be found they will not cause problems.
I have terrible TV reception for all channels as I live at the base of Harrow on the hill and it is directly between me and crystal palace. Some days I could get some channels and other days not. I have 3 different set top boxes and they are all the same. Then i signed up for Talk Talk TV and got their box. As if by magic I now get all the freeview channels, including the ones that moved last week, as well as the Talk Talk and You View ones.
I have no idea how it does it as if i remove the areal connection then i loose freeview so its not streaming from the internet.
I like the new layout on my PC RBS but am I doing something wrong on my phone ?
I get more posts on the screen at once now but everything is tiny. I keep getting the zoom box poping up when I try to select things because my finger hits more than one thing at a time.
The phone is an S7 running Android 7.0
You found the right setting John its just slightly different between your PC and mine ?
As another out of interest.
My BIOS gives me the option to halt for all errors, halt for all but keyboard errors or halt for No errors
Happy you are happy ?
The legacy keyboard support code is very limited and its really at its best when the keyboard is plugged directly into your PC. The code dosn’t include a proper USB bus driver so even using a hub can cause it to fail.
Anyway even at its best its just faking a PS/2 keyboard by using system management (SMBIOS) interrupts to read a USB keyboard and then copy its data to the PS/2 keyboard port address so long live the real PS/2 port !
Didn’t see you there Ed, think i was typing ?
