You are absolotely right Ed. More shades of colour seem more ralistic to the human eye than more resolution.
And you win. Your 10 bit panel is better than mine ?
The more information there is in the sourse material the more it can be post procecessed
Trouble with vieo is we can average between frames and play all kinds tricks
I think I have a handle on a single shot HDR photo. You take three shots in quick succession. One over exposed so you get the shadows, one under exposed so you get the high lights and and a middle one to act as a refference. Then you average them to get HDR.
A always could be wrong ?
Funny you should mention sound Black Lion. I never did get audio return over HDMI working with my sound bar but Richer Sounds won’t let it drop. They are sending a man out tomorrow to have a look.
I doubt they can do anything but its free and they also said they may upgrade the sound bar if they can’t get it working. All part of the service they said.
I doubt you would need much in the way of add on boxes Duke. Amazon Prime and anything the Roku can get are covered by apps on my TV and there are many more that can be downloaded. I still have my Talk Talk YouView box plugged in but thats mostly for recording if im watching something else. I have an old 40GB hard drive plugged into the TV its self for most recording and pausing live TV.
I would not have got a new TV either but my 2 year old Hitachi (Really a Vestel) packed up. After that episode I did some proper research into who makes what.It turns out that in the low to mid range market its only really LG and Samsung that make their own sets.
As I fully expect my new TV to last longer than 5 minutes I went for the best I could afford. There really isnt much UHD content worth watching yet but I live in hope ?
In the meantime the TV does a really good job of upscaling DVD and BlueRay discs and the built in HDR shop demo is very pretty ?
Upscaling SD broadcasts is a bit odd. If you watch a good quality recording from recent years then the results are good but watching something from the 1970s produces noticeable blocks. Can’t think think why there should be a difference but there always is.
Another thing I note. In the event of a no deal the government is proposing to sign existing EU law into UK law wholesale, as is. Any future revisions would be debated and voted upon as usual.
The opposition is objecting though because they say it gives the government of the UK too many powers, powers that are currently held by the EU.
Have I got that wrong ?
No problem. Did you also note my creative spelling of priority (intended) ?
Have a look at the link above to see a man confused !
Nice Video Kieth
I have been picking the bones out of HDR for months now and the waters are very muddy indeed.
If you want a HDR Premium/HDR 10 certified display then you are going to need an OLED panel and I just can’t afford one.
As a compromise I just got a new Samsung TV that is certified HDR but not HDR Premium.
The TV uses Samsung Crystal Clear contrast enhancement on its LCD panel and it prcesses video internally as 10 bit colour but the panel is only 8 bit.
The number of options on the Display menu are also off the scale. I watched three YouTube videos that just covered my model TV before I had a clue about how I COULD set things up.
Spelling is not a high priotity around here Optional. As far as I know corrections are frowned upon.
Mind you it was a dumb a**e rulling by the ECHR that caused the problem in the first place.
Just to prove that agreements can be reached have a read of the link above.
It only took 8 years for a single issue but they seem to have got there in the end.
Come on Ed, how about a bit of creative thinking. We can put the idle road haulage people to work moving fuel can’t we ?
Honestly thoug I am more than half tempted to just put my fingers in my ears until next march because both sides are just going to come up with more and more desperate reasons to support their cause.
If I got my notes out I could still draw you a circuit diagram for a 706/746 type phone, complete with anti sidetone transformer ?
I managed to be a telephone engineer between 1983 and 2003 without ever working for BT. I started with GEC Reliance installing PAX and PABX systems out of the Kemble st office in WC2. I did block release college study at City & East London College in Bunhill row. After being made redundant in 1990 I joined an employment training scheme part sponsored by Mercury Communications. After 18 months study at Willesden collage I got a job in Mercury’s buisness systems devision and I covered just the W1 postal district for the next six years.
In 1997 my devision got sold to Siemens Communications and got moved to the West of london area covering W2 out to Hanwell until I left in 2003.
When the D pad on my Atari Jaguar controler failed I cut the membrane from an old push button telephone to shape and fitted that. Back then I was a telephone engineer and had loads of broken phones to choose from though.
Again things SHOULD be getting better as time goes by.
System configuration and power management problems were ment to be sorted with the release of ACPI but the spec was too lax and open to interpretation.
UEFI is meant to totally replace the software side of ACPI at some time in the future but to ease the transition BIOS writers are still able to specify legacy ACPI as an option. The OS can query the UEFI options installed with a function call and act accordingly.
In the meantime responsibility for ACPI development was transferred to the UEFI Forum in 2013 and they have been busy tightening up the spec, especially on the hardware side as that will remain into the future.
I don’t know for sure Ed, but Linux supports UEFI so it must support UEFI function calls and return codes. UEFI hardware drivers are also written to conform to the UEFI interface so with the UEFI framework between the driver and the OS the whole thing SHOULD be universal ?
