Well you DO get deeper blacks with HDR. The Youtube HDR channel has a space walk video with a fat widescreen format showing narrow black bars top and bottom.

Well it does honest. With the deep black of space at the top of the picture you cant tell where the video ends and the black bar begins, same when the blackness switches to the bottom.

Not sure if I like it. Looks like the picture has jumped up or down.

Some people are never happy ?

I have now played a few HDR videos on Youtube and I am not convinced.

It seems to me that setting the PC’s output to HDR knacker’s the colour for SDR content. Playing back HDR content dosn’t seem to do much more than restore the colour you lost in the first place ?

I see the speaker of the house has stuck his oar in again. He has decided to disallow a third vote on Mrs Mays unchanged deal on the grounds that she’s been told twice already.

Sounds reasonable to me but that bloke is really enjoying his 15 min of fame.

You let Steam auto run ?

I avoid Steam when I can but if a game I want is only on Steam then I let it contact Steam by its self and then I shut Steam down again when Im done with the game.

            I REALLY HATE Steam ???

Some people just enjoy having something to moan and get all over heated about. It is always the same things over and over again. Don’t even try to take their pet hate away from them, they won’t thank you for it.

A mate of mine had moaned for 3 years that he couldn’t access the menu on his second hand sony TV because he didn’t have the original remote. In the end I got fed up with hearing it so I found a brand new original remote on Amazon and just brought it for him.

All was fine for about a week, then he started moaning about ” the bloody TV menu system”. You cannot win ?

Oh yes I know about the cables. Discounting automotive there are 4 types. Standard speed or high speed both with or without ethernet.

HDMI 1.4 cables are high speed and I haven’t yet seen anything that uses Ethernet over HDMI.

The HDMI 2.1 spec has defined higher data speeds but it did NOT define a new cable.

Anyway all my cables are 1.4 and they all work fine ?

I ment I haven’t got any HDR content to watch ?

The short clip that Windows provides plays back fine but its hard to make any judgement on that. If anything it seems to show more shades in the clouds but LESS colour overall ?

With HDR on the desktop definitely looks washed out but then that is not output in HDR. There is now a seperate slider to adjust HDR brightness but colour is still lacking.

Now i’m looking into HDR content I find that HDR comes in 3 flavours, plain HDR 10, HDR 10+ and Dolby Vision.

HDR 10 uses a 10 bit colour depth and uses a static pallet for every frame. HDR 10+ adds a dynamic metadata stream so the color pallet can slide around a bit from frame to frame. Dolby Vision is also dynamic but the colour depth goes up to 12 bit as well.

Still haven’t got any yet though ?

An absolute must is to remove the power immediatly. The remote for my panasonic VCR survived 3 or 4 serious dousings in lager followed by rinsing the PCB under the cold tap.

On the last occasion I was too drunk to notice the spill so the batteries stayed in. A rinse under the tap the next day reveiled that 4 of the pins on the main IC had corroded to nothing so that was that ?

Yes Ed, and it needs fixing at a national level not an international level. If, as seems proven, Westminster is too remote to sort things out then what hope has a collective of vastly different nations got ?

On a judicial level we have county courts, the high court and the supreme court. We REALLY dont need a supreme supreme court.

                              By the way

There isn’t an English assembly because it would constantly be demanding to be allowed to keep more of its own money.

It sort of works here dave.

We already have parish council level, county council level, country level (except for England) and national (federal) level. We just don’t need another level !

I have not mentioned this before because frankly I couldn’t be bothered to type it but …

In the mid 90’s my job often took me behind the scenes at the offices of the European Commission when they were at Storey’s gate.

Away from the public areas the walls were plastered with EU mission statements. Every one of them aiming at a united states of Europe.

I was usually escorted around by a nice lady called Heidi and one day I mentioned to her that I thought the EU was just a trading block.

She looked at me as if I was mad and then said “you can think as you like”.

I ment see if windows knows what it is. If as I suspect Windows hasn’t a clue it should still register a  unique USB device number that you can look up online.

That is a very odd thingamajig indeed !

There is an input for attatching a GPS receiver and also 2 for Universal Time in and out. That printer port is an output for attaching a centronics printer. There are also RS232 and USB ports for attatching to a PC.

Can’t think what it can be. May be worth powering it up via that 12V input and connecting it to a PC with a standard USB printer lead. We if Windows knows what it is ?
