There is a problem with really big LCD screens and its called light bleed. The perspex diffuser panel only has to twist a little bit and light will escape at the bend. The areas most prone to this are the corners where the screen meets the frame and it shows up most if you are watching a widescreen film with black bars top and bottom.

My 49 inch Samsung sometimes shows mild light bleed in the bottom right corner and it depends entirely on the temperature.

Apparently the cure is to slacken the frame screws a tad or rub the affected area gently with a soft cloth or both but I haven’t bothered trying either yet ?

The kind of tiles they use for false ceilings are really good at stopping reflections, especially the ones with the little holes in because thats what they are for.

A tip from my designing speaker enclosures book say that when you have two opposing surfaces you only need to damp one of them to stop echo’s. It then goes on to say its best to damp both ?

All I ever get is confirmed flights with Arab airlines paid for with PayPal. Had 5 or 6 emails detailing my globe trotting exploits in the last few weeks ?

The TG588 is nothing special but it should be solid enough so good luck.

I have now had the latest TalkTalk super router for a couple of weeks  and it works better than expected.

39Mbps upstream 12Mbps downstream, Gigabit ethernet and 5Mhz WiFi that covers all of my, admittedly small, flat at full speed.

Steam even let me download Doom again last week at an average of 34Mbps.

Hmm. Yandex is a ligit Russian language search engine and Zen is its news feed. Zen runs as a widget so you should be able to get it off your home screen by holding down an empty space and dragging it away, much like that annoying Samsung pay thing.

If you managed to actually remove it then well done as it often comes preinstalled but only gets noticed when its Widget is activated.

Its actually quite difficult to get windows to ignore your current setup these days.

Last month I fitted a new, larger, SSD to my hobby PC and wanted a fresh install of W10 on it. I removed the old SSD for safe keeping and told Windows to do a custom install on the new drive (leaving no doubt, I want Windows here). When setup finished I was surprised to find all my programs and settings in place.

In its wisdom Windows had found a disc image of my setup on my data drive and decided to use that. I now had the system partition and the recovery partition on the SSD and the Windows partition on the data drive. Great.

I had to disconnect the data drive and start again before I could convince the Windows installer to create a truly fresh installation, all on the SSD.

Its all part of the everlasting W10 theme. Microsoft have said there will never be a W11 so every now and then they bung out an upgrade to W10 that is actually a whole new version that does an upgrade install.

I agree that you should always TRY and find the cause of a problem first Dave. After all if you don’t know what caused a problem there is a good chance it will happen again.

Windows repair or upgrade installs are not like days of old though. You should not loose anything. If Windows cannot complete a repair/upgrade install then it aborts and rolls everything back. An upgrade install is what Windows does every time there is major feature upgrade like the fall creators edition.

Why don’t you want to do a repair install ? The difference between a repair install and a new install is that you DO keep your stuff. Even better to download the latest ISO and do an upgrade install if you have another W10 PC you can down load it with.

I have to have PowerDVD or similar installed to play back BlueRay’s. Buying an update direct from Cyberlink was meant to be my trouble free solution. Ho Hum

By the way, when it is working PowerDVD can make good use of hardware acceleration. Playing back a Blue Ray using just software shows a CPU usage of 8%. Enabling hardware acceleration drops CPU usage back down to 1 or 2%. The system normally idles between 0 an1 so its almost nothing.

This won’t be what you want but if you go the receiver route then maybe it is.

If you want to go loud then cone area is king.

Some years ago a mate of mine wanted to run a school disco in the assembly hall. He had the decks, mixer and mic from when he was a DJ but no amp or speakers.

I lent him my old Pioneer A400 hifi amp and we scrounged 8 sets of 100W ish stereo speakers. I wired the speakers up with flat twin mains cable which we had to buy.

The speakers were wired series parallel in stacks of 4 giving 8 ohms and then 2 stacks were wired in parallel giving 4 ohms which allowed the A400 to reach its rated power of about 90W per channel. As this is stereo we had speakers in all 4 corners of the hall.

After checking I had phases right and that there were no short circuits we powered up.

We could have blown the bloody doors off had we wanted ?

Yes I looked them up and I don’t like it. I went directly to Cyberlinks website to make my purchase and when it came time to pay I was transfered to another page. Nothing strange about that and the page was covered in the Cyberlink logo. I was actually typing my details directly into Asknet AG.

So what about the PayPal bit then ?

Asknet have a deal with PayPal so that it is PayPal who actually ask banks for the money. And why is this ? Because Asknet have a poor reputation and many banks won’t authorise payment to them.

I do not like it at all so I have the number for my banks Visa dispute team on hand in case.
