Putting this here because it doesn’t deserve a new thread and this one is most popular at the moment 😁
I finally resolved my dispute with PayPal and got my money back (£198) so I have now lifted my ban on using them and subscribed to Forumite.
You will all just have to suffer my wit and wisdom again 😂
Out of interest the peak death rate for Flu in the last 10 years was 26,000 in a year. Didn’t even hear about that until I just looked.
Sorry Ed I mixed up my figures a bit. The death rate for Flu in England is <1.0% and the current rate for corona is 2%.
Also did you know…
Pneumonia is not a specific disease but a medical condition where the Alveoli start to fill with fluid, making Oxygen exchange difficult.
The causes can be a bacteria, a virus, an auto immune response or exposure to various toxic substances.
If your doctor tells you you have pneumonia your question should be why ?
Did you know that, on average, 17,000 people a year die from Flu related illness just in england ? The death rate is 2% across all ages but that includes a much higher rate for those over 65.
The source for those figures is public health england so they SHOULD be accurate.
Just saying. Some people should get a grip over Corona virus.
Did anyone watch the TV show about super spreaders ? It was a BBC project but I watched it on Dave a few weeks ago.
I never had much interest in Physical Address Extensions (PAE) because I went from a 32 bit PIII that didn’t support them straight to a 64 bit Core i7. I just did a bit of reading about them though.
PAE is only useful on 32 bit systems because it adds an extra level of memory pageing tables so that a 32 bit virtual address can be translated into up to 64 GB of physical memory. 64 Bit Windows currently has enough page tables to translate a 54 bit address which is an enormous amount (still not 64 bits though).
If your old 32 bit CPU supports the no execute bit extensions then Windows will load the PAE kernel because it uses the last bit of the translated address as a flag to mark a page as no execute. If you don’t have a server version of 32 bit Windows though the extended addressing capability will not be enabled, in spite of loading the PAE kernel, something to do with consumer level drivers assuming a fixed memory assignment below 4GB.
Thank you PM.
Did anyone manage to download the .TXT file from the link ?
Even if no one looked at the file I would like to know if it works 😀
The original Mini is a pain to buy parts for, I have had a few over the years and not one of them came to me with all the correct parts fitted. There are, for instance, at least 5 different top radiator hoses that have been fitted over the years. As it happens the MK 3 cooper S and the 1275 GT share the same hose but they are the ONLY models that use it.
Or maybe not !
File type .TXT not permitted for security reasons ?
Come to think of it, I may as well post the scrappy code. There are some comments so it should be worth a look.
If you fancy running the code in an Atari 800 emulator then you need to download it, copy it into your emulated hard drive folder from Windows, and then load it into Atari BASIC using ENTER “H6:SUDOKU.TXT”. Then type RUN obviously 🙂
The program is joystick driven and it will work with a gamepad if you configure your emulator to use one but if not you will need to use the numpad arrow keys and right control to select/deselect numbers (at least that’s the default on my emulator).
When I was in hospital over Christmas they gave me my own room for the last 10 days, complete with ensuite wet room. Still don’t know why I deserved that but it beat hanging over the sink 😁
Very good news Bob. Keep fighting the good fight.
Im not sure if you loose much by suspending updates for a while but I switched my old Galaxy S5 on for the first time in about 5 months last week. I wanted to make a quick Messenger call while I was on my other phone but as soon as the S5 connected to wifi it kicked off an update cycle that was still going 15 min later. I don’t know how long it would have continued for because the battery went flat but the phone was useless during the updates.
As bad as it ever gets in Wembley, my Mum’s garden this morning.

I said I was going to tidy up my code and post it, and I will, but in the mean time I have updated it to process columns as well as rows. Below is the solution to the machine tricky problem in the Wiki link above. There is still some debug info in the shot that will be gone in the finished version !
I admit I gave it a little help with this one.

Not that unusual Richard, its exactly the sort of thing that happens to me 😂
I forgot to mention above that while revving the engine with the car in neutral its a good idea to try pressing the clutch in and out to see if that makes a difference.
Does the vibration vary with the speed of the engine (Revs) or the speed of the car ?
If you’re not sure you could try putting your hand on the gear stick with the car stationary and in neutral and then increasing the Revs up to about 5K.
If you feel a vibration doing that then it could be something attached to the engine (like the aircon compressor) at fault. Time to get out the wooden stethoscope 😁
