When you read this, you really have to wonder why the MOD ever purchased this heap of junk!
Thanks, looks OK Graham. I have found through bitter experience that on long run cables the most important factor is cable quality. I’ve been bitten once with cable that had some internal breaks (probably pinched during manufacture). I wasted hours cutting off old connectors and fitting new in the mistaken belief that somehow I kept screwing up fitting the connectors. Never again!
I’ll chocolate box the POE/Ethernet connectors to the camera and trunk the cable for appearance sake so rain/solar breakdown should not be an issue.
The longer things go on, and the more people understand the short and medium term impacts of a hard Brexit the less popular that position will become.
Impacts on jobs, living standards and talk of having to bring out the troops to quell riots will do wonders for Tory and Brexit votes. I honestly wonder if the loyalty of the troops could be counted on in the event of such things happening.
‘ May you live in Interesting times ‘ is purported to be an old Chinese curse, and it looks like the disunited Kingdom is a victim.
“It is a general rule,” they say, “that the worst of men are fondest of change and commotion, hoping that they may thereby benefit themselves”
Looks like Dave was correct in stating that the Liberal Democrats were on the uptick.
Their win in Brecon and Radnorshire gives warning to the hard Brexiteers that other parties will strategically withdraw in the face of a common enemy. (Plaid and the Greens did not contest). This makes many Conservative seats vulnerable and is also a warning to Labour that some of their seats in the North-East could be at risk due to the Brexit party’s presence. However the Unions are starting to become very vocal in their case against a hard Brexit which perhaps tempers that risk.
Bottom line BoJo the mendacious American clown suddenly has more problems with less options and an early election could be fraught with risk!

[Edit] Looks like we have a bug that turns quotes into html script.
I gave up on it when oath took over and I didn’t like the look of their terms .
+1. Oath also make it just about impossible to opt-out of the multitude of third parties to whom your info is sold.If they do not actually break the GDPR regulations they come pretty damn close to it!
If I come across a site that does use Oath I either junk it straight away or use a ‘ Disposable ‘ Browser.
I remember ‘The Diaries’ being serialised in one of the Sundays.
I equally find the statement that ‘WE’ agreed to Brexit to be repulsive. WE did not even know what the hell was meant by Brexit, and neither did the Conservative party with its mantra of ‘Brexit means Brexit’ To compound the lack of a common ‘WE’, nearly half those who voted did not agree with it in any shape or form.
Lets not split hairs about who signed up to the basis of a withdrawal agreement as the rest of the world certainly thought that we had the basis of an agreement.
With regards to BoJo’s statements, just remember that he has a well deserved reputation as a consummate liar who puts himself first in all things.
I think any Welsh sheep farmer with half a brain will realise that they cannot currently compete on price with New Zealand lamb even on our own turf. Trying to compete in the Middle and Far East against lower freight costs means that they are dead in the water.
Even though Wales voted for Brexit, Bojo et al stated that they would be able to preserve the trade status quo with the EU and it was that promise that gained them the support they needed.
Watch it ramp up more and more through August and September as Eire realises that BoJo politically has no option but to hold the line and will do because the Brexit Party is at his heels ready to obliterate the Tories if he folds like May did.
You quoted one right-wing Irish (Ulster DUP?)) view, for balance let me quote another Eire view:
“Yet, paradoxically, the best hope for Ireland and for Europe – not to mention for British citizens themselves – is that Johnson as prime minister will be guided by three of his worst traits, which together have defined his career: he doesn’t mean a word he says, he is obsessed with power and he is willing to betray those closest to him in the pursuit of that power.” — Irish Times
It is extremely similar to what Bruce used to bang on about! It is a fairly idiot-simple way of getting a Linux boot but it is not as good as a full Linux install. It is useful if you need to pen-test a computer (not with the specific distro they sell). A Live CD is almost the same but does not allow you to save files.
Without meaning to be unkind to the vendors it is a bit of a con to anyone who knows a bit about computers as it is fairly easy to roll your own.
Make certain you install drivers as a full Administrator. (i.e select an Administrator account when you boot). Promoting a User to Administrator frequently results in bad driver installs.
Graham gave you the best advice. Often there will be chipset drivers even where the OEM cant be bothered. Broadcom for example are usually pretty good at supplying device drivers.
Of course we will be inter-dependent on the EU come what may.
We will be very hard pressed to have more than a nominal voice in NATO. We will have to conform to EU regulations on product and agricultural exports from the UK into the EU. We will have to accept whatever the EU determines on the repatriation of illegal immigrants. I could also add that we will be only able to wring our hands if the EU decides to set up a hard border on the Eire/Ulster border.
The list goes on, except we will have no say in what the EU determines, and our country will become more fractured and divided.
If she wants to future-proof herself tell her to learn to model, composite and render in Blender (free). You have seen some of the stuff produced by Dan, but I’d draw your daughter’s attention to Blender movies! link
Dan probably has better examples as unfortunately I still have not learned to move from my relatively expensive (and obsolete) software.
@VFM I believe that you like many other ‘ hard negotiators ‘ fail to give enough credence to the emotional significance of the EU.
It is not just a trade and/or regulatory body but instead is seen as a mechanism to ensure that war on mainland Europe cannot even be contemplated because of the inter-dependence of the EU nations.
This means that it is quite possible, and in fact necessary for Germany (in particular) and others to damage themselves to preserve the EU.
As others have pointed out Trade Negotiations between just two countries take a very long time – even the US-Canada deal took four years from start of talks and Trumpers talks of selectively tearing up parts of it with NAFTA adding even more complications.
It may have hit Tel Aviv or Mecca (the latter already has its own big lumps of meteorite), then no doubt Iran would take the blame. Any extra terrestial ‘ Act of God ‘ in that part of the world is potentially very dangerous.
t really should be far simpler for the UK to do trade deals with the rest of the world than it is for the EU. We are only negotiating for ourselves and compromises can be reached much more quickly.
That is a strength in terms of speed, but a huge weakness in negotiating clout especially with the US. If we open our doors to Trump’s US First – expect to get the family silver stolen and the carpet crapped on!
The main stumbling block to an Eire/UK settlement are the regulatory requirements of the EU and the potential for the UK to magically negotiate better trade deals with other countries than trade deals obtained by the EU. The regulatory aspects should be solvable as the UK needs to conform to generally agreed manufacturing standards, the trade deal aspect is moot and depends on your personal view of UK negotiating strengths.
In that latter the publication today by the Office for National Statistics is useful information. As any good deal between nation states means a balanced degree of pain we are not in a great negotiating position with many countries – the US worst of all.
