      DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

In my experience this often means that before updating you should first update the graphics driver and disconnect any usb connected peripherals.

Yet another thorn up BoJo’s nether end. The Scottish equivalent of a Supreme Court has declared prorogation unlawful. However, they have not ruled a recommencement of Parliament ahead of the London Supreme Court meeting on Tuesday next. Beeb link

May had it easy compared with Johnson! 😂

While on the subject of Lenovo, check this out. It looks like they do not have good reliability designed in.

Who said that trade deals are equitable? Try negotiating with a 600lb gorilla and see who comes off worse!

Negotiations with the EU are not going to be easy, especially with an Irishman (Paul Hogan) who dislikes Johnson. see Politico comment

Rather than the ‘end of the beginning’ as Dave puts it this could well be the beginning of the end of the Union of the UK, especially when each of the smaller bodies sees their favourite Brexit items being negotiated away ‘for the greater good (of the Conservative party)’ e,g. Cornish fish, Welsh lamb, Scottish Fish etc. Nationalism will be rife.

If the psudoAmerican BoJo pursues a Hard Brexit, and that comes to pass I just cannot see anyone cheering the chaos and job losses that will result. As said before, in that eventuality Bojo will forever be known as the Grinch who stole Christmas 2019, and certainly not an election winner.

He cannot now get his election before October 31st unless the Government declares it has no confidence in itself and it would have to somehow pass such a motion before October 17 as by law they have to give a coalition of opposition parties 14 days to form a Government. I forecast VERY VERY long parliamentary debates on such a motion!

If however he does succeed in negotiating the deal with the EU that he claimed he could, and gets it through Parliament then good luck to him.

The EU made it perfectly plain that they were not impressed by a Hard Brexit as it will damage the UK far more than them – we lose ALL our existing trade deals via the EU plus of course the EU as well. It MIGHT(?) be better in 5 or 7 years, but that is a long time to go without a car industry and livestock farmers.

I was going to refrain from comment as these are the same old arguments against a Hard Brexit, but what has changed is the possible elimination of a lying PM dragging us into a future Yank/Isreali inspired Middle East war.

CMOS battery? If it does not have one, then it has something like the Mac’s PRAM and you will need to refer to your mobo docs, but I’d guess it would then be some sort of PSU issue.

What sort of ‘serious’ artist? If the person needs 16bit/channel colour and uses pro software then they will need a ‘pro’ version graphics card. NVidia and AMD have conspired to only provide 16bit drivers on their very expensive pro ranges e.g Nvidia Quadro or AMD Firepro. (Yes you can get 10bit on DirectX, but there isn’t afaik a pro software that renders in DirectX mode). He/She will then need a monitor to match – VERY expensive!

If that strikes a bell Photoshop CS6 support is the term to search on.

I don’t think it applies to Prime customers

It should not, but it does I’m afraid. In the same vein ‘ next day delivery ‘ often does not apply.  Many Chibay providers hide away on Amazon Prime, and do not provide next day delivery even for Prime customers but they do fly in their products.

Heck Burgers are based on pea protein and actually taste pretty much like a burger. Tesco also have a similar range.

I’m afraid I cannot abide the fungus-based Quorn – it just does not agree with me.

Probably because a friend of mine (an ex-biochemical engineer) pointed out that at one time there were heaps of rotting myco-organisms being ploughed into landfill surrounding the old Pfizer plant in Sandwich Kent (gone now). It was the waste product from the manufacture of birth control pills.

Insects can be really nice, especially the Aussie Witchity Grub. To my taste it is like a creamy lobster pate.

                              edit:

Bob the Live Market in Singapore used to do a roaring trade in bagged snakes for their National Service boys on Jungle training. The rumour was that the Army kept visiting the same spots and had pretty much exterminated the local snake population.

Just for the record the battery was doing really well up to 28 months or so, giving me a good 24 hour + normal usage (not watching video on it). However at 29+ months I’m lucky to get 18 hours out of it, sometimes much less.

Assuming you have a usb3 attached SSD, the big problem with virtualising Windows (or even Linux) is the i/o bus. Unless you have a completely separate adapter any i/o or Internet activity on the host can cause the guest to lock up for a period of time. (I suspect that a deadly embrace or race condition is taking place)

As I know Dan will question Linux causing issues this can happen during the period after boot as Linus looks for or tries to download updates. In this situation Internet activity on the host will make the guest unresponsive.

As I use virtualisation for nearly everything, my dream PC would be one with two or more separate i/o buses and some way of ensuring the guest and host use different ones.

Off thread a bit, but Kaspersky is good at giving a flag when updates to non-Kaspersky software  and drivers are needed.

The G7 has the same difficult to replace battery construction. (almost identical to the Swift X2) so no thank you.
